Editor's Notes

  1. CAEs recognize the importance of soft skills for their teams. Globally, analytical/critical thinking is the most important skill being recruited for, followed by communication skills. The Middle East & North Africa diverges from the global trend, focusing on accounting skills as its top consideration.
  2. The global average is 57% who say their audit departments are fully aligned or almost fully aligned with the strategic plans of their organizations. The Middle East and North Africa is roughly in line with global averages. We must align our audit plans with the needs of and risks to the business. Given that aligning audit work with stakeholder expectations is a prerequisite for helping the business develop forward-looking audit practices, CAEs must do better in this area.
