Both k-means and Gaussian mixtures clustering algorithms found 5 clusters for a dataset, with the cluster centers being identical. It is possible for 3 points assigned to different clusters by k-means to be assigned to the same cluster by Gaussian mixtures, as the clustering assignments depend on the underlying distribution assumed and k-means does not consider distribution, only distance to centers.
