Stephen Gould's article can be interpreted in a variety of different, but mostly positive ways. After
discovering that he had a rare form of un–curable cancer, he set out to discover what exactly his
"median life expectancy" of eight months meant and where he would fall in this disheartening
distribution. After reviewing various medical journals, he found the distribution to look exactly like
he imagined: very rightly skewed. But, being that he was young and the cancer had been found
early, he determined that he would most likely fall into that rightly skewed distribution, meaning
that he would have more than the "average" eight months of life left. While finding this new
information and being subject to it, he learned that his perceiving daunting future wasn't as dreadful
as it appeared. With the help of his previous biological knowledge and positive attitude, he came to
conclude that his life expectancy, his life clock, wasn't what mattered most. Gould determined that
"median isn't the message". Meaning, his life expectancy wasn't what mattered, it wasn't even

In order to find the median for IB and Others GPA, I must put the GPAs in numerical order. Since
both totals are even numerals, I have to take the mean of the two middle numbers of the set of GPA.

on that test. We chose to conduct this experiment in the Sterling C. Evans Library to get a wide
variety of students to take the tests since it is the largest and most central library on campus. We felt
that this way the best way to attempt to limit the other variables that could affect our results. Our
hypothesis was that red ink would cause that student to do more poorly on the test than the student
would have done on a test with black ink. Our theory was that red ink would remind students of
wrong answers on previous assignments and create a feeling of stress and anxiety. We attempted to
answer this question by giving students of various genders, majors, and ages a test of medium
difficulty in red and black ink and analyzing the data to find out if their scores correlated with the
ink color. In order to determine whether there was a correlation between ink colors and test scores,
we measured the students' number of wrong answers on the test, time taken on the test, stress level,
age, classification, gender, GPA, and college. We chose these measures because they yielded

tendency. They are the mean, measured, and median. Each of these are averages, which everyone is
exposed to in everyday life (Stapel, n.d.). All three have specific uses in real life.
The Mode
The first measure, the mode, is the most popular score. To find the mode, one tallies the frequency
of each number or value. The mode becomes the group that occurs the most frequently (Averages,
n.d.). A set of numbers may have more than one mode when an equal number of occurrences takes
place at more than one value. Of course, a mode may not occur in a set of numbers if the numbers
appear with equal frequency (Henry, 2011). Next, a few examples of the mode are explained.
First, California Homeschool Network's election occurs annually. An election is a great example
explaining the method. The election consists of trustees that members vote for. When the election
closes, the results displaying the trustee who receives the most votes is the winner. This winner

the stem and leaf plot where you can see the frequency much clearer since the original data numbers
are shown as in compare like a histogram where the frequency is easy to see, the original data points

In the box and whisker, the median is 78, almost 80, and that fifty percent of the students scored
between 67 and 86 points, and seeing the plot is skewed to the left means that there are more values
in the highs rather the lower numbers. The histogram and stem and leaf plot also shows how
students passed the test by seeing the median and mode on the graph.
The assigning of the scores I decided to have five letter grades which were, A, B, C, D, and F. Letter
grade A is 90–100, B is 80–89, C is 70–79, D is 60–69, and F is 59–0. The reason I chose this grade
assignment is because I wanted to know how many students have "passed" the exam beyond
average or below. The average is a 70–79 and having five categories can show which students
actually know the subject or need to work on it, whether over the average or under the average.
Describing the "middle" of the data is that the central tendency by using the mean, median, or mode.
The mean gives us the average, the median gives us which is the number in the middle of the set,
while mode show us the most frequently occurring value in a data set. The box and whisker and
histogram, it's better to use the median to describe the middle because since the mean is less than the
median, that's why it's skewed because the high scores influence the direction of the graph. In this
case, the median may be a better option to represent the typical grade on the test.

Over the course of the 5 weeks of experience that I have had, I have been able to see many of these
terms come to life in the relationships that I am building with my individual resident, and with the
large group of 20+ residents. I have seen many different interpersonal events and the value of and
the skill that is takes to intentionally and skillfully use my personality and traits and modes with
Residents in difficult situations. One thing I have found true for myself is that it is more difficult
than it sounds to execute pure mode use. All my life I have encountered conflicts and been trained in
how to deal with them, using many of the techniques encompassed in the modes, so it has become
second nature to respond to conflicts the ways in which I have been trained. However, Taylor (2008)
points out the importance of intentionally and skillfully choosing the modes that will best meet the
client where they are and help them to be able to engage in their occupations, instead of responding
using several approaches at once. However, I have found that as I have been met with interpersonal
events, I respond naturally with aspects of both encouragement and instructing, as opposed to
utilizing mode shift to intentionally shift modes when I sense that one is needed to best meet my
client. While I feel that I have been able to accomplish a positive outcome in most of the
interpersonal events that I faced, I was not practicing how to be an intentional and effective clinician
by doing this. One such time, a Resident was feeling very discouraged about a new activity and
reacted with agitation and anger (emotionally charged therapy session event), and I responded by
giving encouragement, reassuring them, and telling them the things I have seen them do correctly,
but at the same time also reminding them that the only way to get better at something is to keep
trying, explaining the benefits of doing it, and demonstrating how to do it again in a different way. I
used both encouraging responses and instructing responses, instead of simply choosing to use

In this project, LCD is used in order to display the status of train arrival or departure. In that way, it
will indicate the motorists that gate is going to be closed.
The program logic is written in embedded c program by using Kiel micro vision environment. The
program written is then converted in the hex code after simulation and burned onto the
microcontroller using FLASH micro vision.
This project can also be developed further to have a buzzer sound in order to alert the public while
the gate is closing. A control room can also be provided at the railway crossings for constant

A measure of central tendency was computed to summarize the data for the level of exercise. A
measure of dispersion is computed to understand the variability scores of the independent variable.
The following are the results obtained from the data collection sample size = 1238, Mean = 1.99,
Median = 2.00, Mode = 1.00 and SD = 0.889 variable. When looking at the mean, it appears that
most students responded to the variable in the questionnaires. And it shows that distribution is
symmetric since the mean is close to equal the median, which concludes that this variable has a
close to zero skewness.

For our Honors Math fall final this year we were assigned a task to collect 100 pieces of data from a
survey question of our choice. With that question we surveyed 100 students from the same
population. After collecting the responses we input the data into a spreadsheet to find the
frequencies for each answer given. With those frequencies we then found the mean, median, mode,
range, quartile 1, quartile 2, quartile 3, the interquartile range, maximum, minimum, outliers,

The next thing I found was the range. To find the range you take the maximum number in the set
minus the minimum number in the set. In my data the range was 60. Next, I found the quartiles that
would be used for my box and whisker plot. To find Quartile 1 you have to find the median of the
data that falls below the median of the entire data. In my data Quartile 1 was 0. You do almost the
same to find Quartile 3. You find the median of the upper half of the data. You can not use the
median to find Quartile 3 so you have to use everything above it. Quartile 3 in my set of data was
14. Finding Quartile 2 is easy because it is the same as your median. To find any outliers you have
to find the upper limits and the lower limits. To do this you must find the interquartile range first. To
do that, you subtract Quartile 1 from Quartile 3. With the interquartile range, you then can add it to
Quartile 3 and subtract it from Quartile 1. By adding the interquartile range to Quartile 3 you are
creating the upper limit and by subtracting the interquartile range from Quartile 3 you are finding
the lower limits. In this case all four of my outliers fell above the maximum limit of 36 because you
