2. The commune is located in the extreme north of the
county, in the upper part of the Râmnicul Sărat River, at
the foot of the Bisoca Mountains. The commune is
connected to the rest of the county through the county
DJ204C which connects to Vintila Voda, in the Slănic
valley. The same county road leads north to Jitia,
Vrancea.
3. The only historical monument in Bisoca is the Poiana
Mărului Monastery near the village of Bătlăgari, on the
DJ204C, a monument classified as an architectural
monument of national importance. It comprises two
wooden churches: Nativity of the Virgin Mary Church
and Sunday All Saints Church. There is a dispute
between the commune of Bisoca and the neighboring
commune of Jitia (Vrancea County) regarding the
delimitation of the territory between the two communes
and regarding the land on which the monastery is built.
4. The word Bisoca comes from the Slavonic "vasocoi"
(high), the locality being located at about 1,000 meters
altidudine.
