Communication (from the Latin
term “communis” which means to share
and inform ideas, feelings, etc.) is the
act of transmitting
intended meanings from
one entity or group to another through
the use of mutually
understood signs and semiotic rules.
9. Communication is a process of sharing and
conveying messages or information from one
person to another within across channels,
contexts media, and cultures. There is a wide
variety of contexts and situations in which
communication can be manifested; it can be a
face-to-face interaction, a phone conversation, a
group discussion, a meeting or interview, a class
recitation, and many others. (McCornack 2014)
10. Communication connects people and the
world they live in. It is through
communication that people are able to
express their thoughts and ideas or convey
information and messages through word of
mouth, gestures and signals, signs, and
others. People have always communicated
with one another in various forms.
11. Nature of Communication
Communication is a two-way process
of connecting to both living and
nonliving things. It is also a means of
sharing and exchanging messages,
information, ideas, and feelings for
mutual understanding (Gregoriom,
J.C., 2015).

Message - information, ideas, or thoughts
conveyed by the speaker in words or in
actions
Encoding - process of converting the
message into words, actions that the
speaker understands

personal or non-personal, verbal or
nonverbal, in which the encoded message is
conveyed
Decoding - the process of interpreting the
encoded message of the speaker by the
receiver
Receiver – the recipient of the message, or
someone who decodes themessage

responses, or information provided
by the receiver
Context – the environment where
communication takes place
Barrier – the factors that affect the
flow of the communication.

Action
Shena wants to remind her
friend, Ella, to stop by the store after
work and buy milk for dinner. She
forgot to ask Ella in the morning, so
Shena texts a reminder to Ella. Ella
texts back and then show up at home
with a gallon of milkunder her arm.
But something'samiss: Ella bought
chocolate milk when Shena wanted
regular milk.

Thecodeis theEnglish languagethey'reusing.
And the messageitself is"Rememberthe
milk!"In thiscase, the feedbackis both direct
