Example of Practice: “Präventive Elternarbeit für ein gemeinsames Miteinander & Mediator“ Preventive work with parents for mutual cooperation, mediator (Jugendmigrationsdienst Cham)
2 Aims Parents with migration background often feel inhibited when it comes to handling the educational environment of their children. They often have little or no idea about the school systems in the new country and have problems to keep track of their children’s progress in school. In that way they have only little possibilities to support the educational progress of their children. That is very often the reason for pupils to drop their schools. With this project it was aimed to avoid those drop-offs from the very beginning by conveying the knowledge necessary for parents and students in their new countries and by building a confidential relationship between school, pupils and parents. By this, migrant parents are enabled to develop a greater respect against the values of the educational system in their guest countries.
3 Tasks Translation of information sheets from school Accompanying parents and children to various institutions like psychiatric institutions for youths etc. Consultation hours on the phone,  Interpreting at authorities and institutions Mediating between school, pupils and parents
Pupils / Students The project  aims to facilitate  communication  between Parents Schools / School Psychologists Institutions / Authorities
