2. The programme was a Mixed documentary which included interviews with his
friends and colleges, observation, narration, archive footage of him performing
and had actuality footage.
The themes of the programme were family, friendship, change in the music industry and the
determination to succeed when everything might not be going the way you want it to go. It was done
in more of a biographical way.
3. Open- this is where all the question at the beginning was answered and we weren’t left wondering
anything from Kenny Rodgers career or life.
Single strand- the only topic of the programme was Kenny Rodgers and his career and how its had its
ups and his downs in his career.
Non linear- it didn’t follow chronological order because the programme kept going between archive
footage and interviews and observation throughout the programme.
Circular- it started and finished between the same footage of Kenny Rodgers and his group playing in
the room.
4. The names of the people that were being interviews were all in capital letters and the sublines were in
upper/lower case which anchored the person to the topic and this made it more relevant. It ranged from left
or right of the screen depending on where the person was sat on the screen. It was all in a white serif font.
5. In the interviews of the programme they were either a medium close up or close up with
a shallow depth of field and were sat either to the left or right of the frame. They
followed the rule of 3 where the eyes of the interviewee was inline with you eye line. A
tripod was used to film this because it kept it steady. Other camera shots used were
zooms (in and out) pans, tilts, car shots, low angle, big clos ups of records, turn tables.
They also use camera shots from the floor, pull focus, actuality footage. A lot of this
programme was filmed on hand held cameras because they could quickly move between
different shots.
6. In the interviews they used pianos, juke box, mixing deck etc to help anchor the
person to the topic. In the rest of the programme there was footage of where he
grew up, roulette wheels, and other things that are relevant to the topic.
7. They used actual footage of him singing to help people understand what music he
does and how it sounds. They also used gospel music and all the music linked
together because it was all relevant to the topic which was being discussed. The
female voice over used standard English and kept calm and was reading it clear so
that she could describe the narrative that is happening.
8. The main edit that was used was a cut between the interviews and other things
but they also used montages to give more information, red and yellow flashes,
dissolves in the montage, fades and they used cutaways to edit out the questions
to make it look good and so that we wouldn’t notice them changing them cutting
the questions away and so that it doesn’t jump
9. There was a lot of archive material used in the show and these included album
cases, his past performances with people including duets, still images of his life,
old magazines, ray chiles, theVietnam war, Glastonbury, tv shows, national 1
came and many more were used in the show
