2. Colonial Brazil
Brazil was discovered by a Portuguese man named
Pedro Alvares Cabral, he gave Brazil to king Manuel I.
The Portuguese used Brazils resources like its fine
wood with red dye.
The treaty of Tordesilla had the most impact on Brazil
because it meant that the Portuguese would control
a chunk of territory that the Spaniards were going to
get.
Cabral relied on a Portuguese man that understood
the Brazilians language to ask for help in navigating
through the forest.
3. Later in time the king of Portugal discovered that the French
were going to send men to Brazil. The king feared that the
French were going to take Brazil, the king sent missions to
combat the French people.
When Portugal tried to colonize Brazil, it was made so that
the king didn’t have to waste most of his funds on Brazil.
Between 1534-1536, king John III divided Brazil into 13
captaincies, and gave control over them to Portuguese
noblemen.
Later the failure of the captaincies brought much chaos in
Brazil’s government and much trouble to King John III.
