2. Definition: it is invagination of the gut within an

- Urinary tract infection
- Adeno virus or Rota virus.
- Adult causes associated with polyps ,submucosal lipoma

3. Pathology: Intussusception composed of three
parts
- the entering or inner tube
- the returing or middle tube
- the sheath or outer tube
Intussusception it may anatomically defined
as
Ileoileal ileocaecal,and ileoolic depending on
the side and extent of invagination
4. Clinical feature :
abdominal pain
- vomiting.
-red current jelly stool
:- EX
Abdominal not distended
) A lump may be felt on palpation on (50-60%
Felling of emptiness in the right iliac fossa
Rectal examination blood stained mucos may be
found on finger ,apex may palpable or even
protrude from the anus in extensive ileo-colic
.and colicolic
5. Radiological investigation:
-plain abd x-ray --ileoileal or ileocolic
-barium enema—ileocolic and colecolic
.-c.t scan -ileoileal

6. Management:
- history
-examination
-investigation
-treatment
- follow up
Treatment: non operative by hydrostatic
reduction
Contraindicated in obstruction, peritonitis ,
).and prolong history (more than 48 hours
Operative treatment when hydrostatic
reduction failed or contraindicated
