Abstract:
Information Technology is used in various fields but not used vastly in agriculture sector which is main livelihood
for majority of people in rural areas and which also drives economy. Over 45% of economy is contributed by
agriculture in developing nations. So, if we need to improve the economic condition of these nations, then the main
way to do that is to improve the agricultural sectors of them by using the latest technologies such as Big Data, Cloud
Computing and Wireless Networks.
We have decided to make a project that help governments, research centers, farmers and also companies in
agriculture field as yesterday’s agriculture cannot feed today’s needs. We try to enhance the agriculture sector by
providing an innovative way to manage agricultural information. The modern way for agriculture is “FaaS”.
Problem Definition:
We have treated agriculture as some sort of traditional expired way. As we don’t think it’s become our vital sector
of developing, the most common issues responsible for that are:
 We suffer a gap between research centers and farmers' work, which majority of the farmers are not getting
upper-bound yield, and research facilities still facing computing obstacles that slow the steps of improving
particular criteria. Over the years, we have become more sophisticated and decentralized about the average
experience, communication and production. We appreciate how their research efforts impact agricultural
enhancement.
 The food industry had no development, which made adapting and adopting with the consumer demand
impossible, we cannot solve that without deeper knowledge of food properties.
 Marketing the yields for the rural farmers seems impossible that leads merchants almost consume most of
the yields profit which add more pressure on both the farmer and the food processor making Food prices
continue to rise.
 New farmlands investments still have a long way to take place in Egypt. It still need a great support like
computing power, some sort of intelligence to operate and maintain the farm which allow the owner to
remote monitor his farm and market his products.
 We had stored data written on papers, held in folders, saved in desks that taking places and efforts to store
and write, why we cannot make usage of these data in new forms ?.
 Decision makers must have their own special perspective for the national crops, farmlands, yields and
market to secure the food.
We are already seeing data sets from a multitude of sources which support faster and more reliable research and
discovery. For farming, not just increasing the quantity of food, but also improving the quality.
Impact
We seek to be able to aggregate large scale data, obtain information, analyze and understand all the factors that
affect the whole cycle from the seed to the product, as we can:
 Achieve our own estimated perspective for the yields and its market demand.
 Raise the experience of rural farmers by notifying them with the latest achievements in the agriculture field.
 Providing computing power for research centers that speeds up the steps in genetic engineering.
 Analyzing crop diseases that improve and assure pesticides safety and effect on crops.
We hope to run all farms from one platform that allows us to monitor any farm anywhere anytime. We design this
cloud model to benefit various stakeholders in agriculture field to provide precise and accurate information along
with various security related concepts.
Novelty and Features
Food is a vital need. The food industry must develop, adapt and adopt with consumer demand and
expectations while increasing the value added to agricultural commodities, so as to benefit farmers. The
development of such processes requires broader and deeper knowledge of food properties starting from
the water properties, soil characteristics, seeds origins, fertilizers affectivity and pesticides safety. Now the
agriculture cycle needs reliable access, huge data storage and computing power which is not offered by the used
traditional agriculture system. We introduce cloud computing and big data as innovative solution to impact the
agricultural field.
Our project offers new outstanding features, services, deliverables and support:
 Hosting and storing all the information centralized on one place being processed at.
 Controlling all information, nothing checks in or out of the agricultural cycle without passing through the
cloud computing system. That will eliminate corruption that affects the system negatively.
 Scan, link and manage pictures and documents from anywhere with web-based document management,
sharing the expert knowledge and experience with other rural farmers.
 Provide infrastructure and virtual laboratories for research and development and globalize the promising
results that will lead to more and more food production.
 On time reports, tips and procedures for planting and growing crops to avoid disastrous sudden events,
energy prices rising, market needs, agricultural pests.
Approach and Techniques:
We are using modern IT technologies and techniques like big data, virtualization and cloud computing.
Cloud computing is known as the third IT industry revolution. Its goal is to provide a set of public facilities with
computing services and applications. Based on the internet, the shared hardware and software resources and
information could be supplied to the computer and other devices on their demands. Cloud computing is considered
as a business computing model based on the internet, it takes use of the high-speed internet transmission capacity,
make the data processing process from a personal computer or sever to a cluster of servers on the internet.
When we talk about “Big Data” we are referring to a dataset that is too large for a typical database software tool to
store, manage, and analyze. Agriculture data is variable, it also has special security and privacy protections. This
makes sharing, aggregating, sorting and analyzing the data sometimes challenging. Big data technologies and
techniques represent an important advancement, because they make it efficient and affordable for organizations to
tap into the 95% of data currently passing them by big data will make a big difference in the coming years.
System Overview:
In this project we will present new solutions to agriculture to stimulate Innovation and Green IT concepts using:
Hardware: implementing a very strong networking infrastructure with high levels of security to ensure a safe
connection to consumer’s private or public cloud to reach the agricultural records and information.
Software: Design and Implement of a powerful platform using Cloud Computing and Big Data solutions including:
 OpenStack Cloud software.
 Apache Hadoop.
 Openshift by Redhat.
User Access : Design and develop a website portal which farmers, agricultural engineers and stakeholders can interact
with the system and experts and log securely to their agricultural cloud services and records accounts .
Services:
 Create deliverable web portal that can make our agriculture products visible to all over the world.
 Unified available agricultural Archive.
 Agricultural and Business Consulting.
 Remote farm monitoring.
 Agricultural education and knowledge sharing.
 Provide high computing processing platform for researchers.
 Precise reports for decision makers.
Support we Need:
We greatly appreciate your help and reading our proposal, we are looking forward to: Technical support and
training on openstack administration.
Thanks for paying attention
