1. Synopsis
Characters
These are the characters that will be included in our music video. They will represent the story of
Stan:
Eminem - white t shirt, jeans and glasses – played by Carly Mc Caron
- Eminemisthe rapperin whichStanwritestooand isportrayed as the main subject in Stan’s
story. He frequentlywillgetlettersfromStan,howeverinourvideowe will have these come
through in text messages to keep the society today.
Stan - white t shirt, jeans – played by Cleo Coogan
- Stan is shown as a fan of Eminem, who is soon shown to have an obsession with him. This
thenleadstohis downfall inthe videoashe will slowlybecome more aggressive and fixated
on the look and style of Eminem.
Dido (Kim Mathers) – played by blue hoddie, blue t shirt – Sarah Mohan
- Dido will be the main character in the video and will watch Stan as he becomes more
obsessed with Eminem. As it will be through her eyes we will see her own struggles with
dealing with Stan, showing how helpless she will feel when she can’t seem to help him.

so that those watching are able to see the characters face and will create an enigmatic feel
2. throughout the video. All the scenarios that will take place in the video will be done in the drama
room available atStAnne’sCatholicHigh School for Girls. This is because we will be able to change
the lighting in the room with the controller deck. This will make it easier to change from different
light colours and levels which will be effective in out video.
Narrative
The official videoforEminem’sStanvideo starts off with dido waking up in her bed, as the rain hits
the window and light flashes into the room. She is rubbing her stomach, an indication that she is
pregnant. The shot cuts to Stan in the bathroom washing his hair with water, over a dirty sink. We
can alreadysee thathe might be disturbed by the fact he is wearing similar clothes to Eminem, we
then see both dido and Eminem arguing about his current state. Eminem then appears into the
video,looking through fan mail sent to him, he looks almost bored with the idea. Light then again
flashes into the basement of their house, revealing pictures on the wall as Stan looks around. The
camera then pans across the pictures revealing cut outs of Eminem from various magazines. We
then see Stan writing many letters one after the other, which he is then sent to Eminem. Going
further into the video we then see a change in Stan, as he slowly becomes more obsessed with
Eminem. This then leads him to go in a car with his girlfriend, recording a note that he wants
Eminemtohear.He thenlosescontrol of the car, thusleadinghimtodrive off the bridge hitting the
water below. It ends with a scene at his graveyard with his relatives looking down on the stone.
Eminem then realise at the end that it was Stan who was in the crash, killing himself and his
girlfriend dido.
In the video that I will be creating, I will change the story line and show it through Dido’s (Kim’s)
point of view. The video will be similar to Eminem - Stan in some aspects, as I will be taking some
shots from the original video. I will be keeping the shot of dido in her bedroom, so to keep to the
original storyline.Itwill thencuttoa dark room with low lightingbeing used;thiswill most likely be
in the drama room at school. Strobe lighting will be used to make the video more dark and
mysterious,thiswill alsohighlight the characters faces at important parts in the video. In the video
that I will make,azoomedinshot of a toy car will be used to symbolize the car falling of the bridge
intothe water. I will alsouse a table whenStaniswritinghislettersdown,withdifferentshots of his
girlfriend looking from afar. Throughout the different shot, Kim will find many different cutouts of
Eminem, becoming more concerned with Stan.
Themes
The overall theme of our video will be a dark setting with low lighting, which is to create a somber
moodwhile watchingthe video. Strobe lightingeffectswillbe used to highlight the characters faces
inthe video,whichwill gowiththe lightingsoundthatisusedinthe song. The videowill be no more
the 3 minuteslongsoas to capture the attention of the audience. The video must be fast paced, to
build up the story and show intense imagery.
