Architectural Senses
1. Olafur Eliasson:
is a Danish-Icelandic artist known for
sculptures and large-scale installation
art employing elemental materials
such as light, water, and air
temperature to enhance the viewer’s
experience. In 1995 he established
studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, a
laboratory for spatial research.
Eliasson has engaged in a number of
projects in public space, including the
intervention Green river, carried out in
various cities between 1998 and 2001;
the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2007,
London, a temporary pavilion designed
with the Norwegian architect Kietil
Thorsen; and The New York City
Waterfalls ,commissioned by Public Art
Fund in 2008.
2. The weather project was installed at the
London'sTate Modern in 2003 as part of the
popular Unilever Series. The installation filled
the open space of the gallery'sTurbine Hall.
Eliasson used Humidifiers to create a fine mist
in the air via a mixture of sugar and water, as
well as a circular disc made up of hundreds of
monochromatic lamps which radiated yellow
light. The ceiling of the hall was covered with a
huge Mirror, in which visitors could see
themselves as tiny black shadows against a
mass of orange light. Many visitors responded
to this exhibition by lying on their backs and
waving their hands and legs. (Art critic Brian o
Doherty described this as viewers "intoxicated
with their own narcissism as they ponder
themselves elevated into the sky.") Open for
six months, the work reportedly attracted two
million visitors, many of whom were repeat
visitors. O'Doherty was positive about the
piece when talking to Frieze Magazine in 2003,
saying that it was "the first time I've seen the
enormously dismal space--like a coffin for a
giant--socialized in an effective way."

3. Visual Delights:
Eliasson used circular disc made up of
hundreds of monochromatic lamps
which radiated yellow light
So the light is an important element
used in the weather project because it
leads human vision towards it and
attracts his attention, 200 yellow
lamps placed on the disk to form a
fake sun that makes you feel warm
and comfortable.
And one of Eliasson main goals In this
project is to direct these less overt
aspects of making an exhibition, so
that the experience of the work would
be left as unscathed as possible for the
viewer

4. 300 mirrors were used for the
ceiling, And this engage, amaze,
and disorient the viewer
Most of the visitors lay on their
backs and start staring at the
huge mirror fixed to the ceiling
which reflects the people image
but they look like shadows with a
small scale against a mass of
orange light.

5. Tactile Architecture
TheWeather Project 2003
The room is filled with a mist
which is made out of sugar
and water (using a humidifier )
so people can feel different
weathers together and when
they sit down they feel the
texture of the smooth ground
which reflects the yellow color
produced by the sun.
Visitors can feel this humidity
when they reach the space
and even if the weather looks
worm ,the installation doesn’t
give any heat, in respect to
this fact people bask under
the light quietly
contemplating in the
atmosphere it creates.
6. Sound of architecture
While people lay on there
backs they can listen to
different sounds because the
space reflects the exterior
environment and kids try to
play and move as if they are
in a garden under the sun,
while parents try to relax
while they listen to
mumbling ( It’s the perfect
situation to relax and close
your eyes and suppose that
all the sound around you is
just babbler
