• Solar energy is energy radiated by the
sun which reaches the Earth's surface in
the form of heat (infra-red radiation)
or sunshine rays (ultraviolet and
visible light).
• Portugal is one of Europe's countries
with the greatest availability of solar
radiation.
• The annual average number of hours of
sunshine that we have in our country,
are 2200-3000 hours average.

• MDF Boards

• Dull Black Ink
• Screws

6. Why those
materials
?
• We shall use those materials in order to
increase the income of the solar oven.
• The mirrors have a great importance in the
success of cooking food. We have to place
them with the perfect inclination to
utilize the solar power as much as
possible.
• The glass is the most important material of
all, it allows the visible light radiation
to penetrate through it, and disable the
infra-red radiation to slip away, creating
a greenhouse system inside, allowing the
temperature to highly increase.
• White glue and screws are used to stick the
boards

7. Why those
materials
?
• Why to use black sponges? Black sponges are
a good thermal isolator, which will
maintain the temperature inside for a
longer time, then if they are black, that
would be perfect due the fact that black is
the best absorber of heat.
• We must use MDF boards, they are resistant,
and just like sponges, they are also a good
thermal isolator.
• One of the most needed materials is the
dull black ink, why? They are the greatest
absorber of heat, and if it is a dull, even
better because it will only allow a little
bit of visible light radiation to be
reflected.
