4. Our flag is called the French tricolour.
The 1794 drecree stated that: “The national flag shall be
formed of the three national colours, set in three equal
bands, vertically arranged so that the blue is the nearest
to the staff, the white in the middle, and the red flying.
1790 : Colours’ order from left to right was: red, white,
blue.
Now a days: one of the flags in the naval signalling
alphabet is still a red-white-blue vertically-striped flag –
I.E. like the modern French flag, but with the colours
reversed. The colours are those of Paris (blue and red)
combined with the royal red.
It is associated with the French revolution which took
place in 1989. In 1793, King Louis XVI of France was
beheaded.
5. The National anthem <<La Marseillaise>>
is a revolutionary song.
Two female figures have been employed to
represent the French republic Marianne
and Liberti are not the same. Marianne as
on the left is usually young. She wears a
phrygian cap (or liberty cap) and freely
displays her ample charms. Liberty, as on
the right is generally more matronly, more
modestly attired, and wears a crown.
