GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTION
 A house committee is responsible for providing leadership, building
community and promoting learning in the residence halls, it is guided by
principles to focus on their work, these principles include, not limited to:
 Valuing intellectual creativity, leadership and excellence
 Being innovative in the LLC program, University policies and procedures
 Providing a diverse and inclusive community that encourages involvement and
advocates a free exchange of ideas
 Leading and supporting collegial relationships within the university community
 Including other students decisions which enhances their university experience

…DEVELOPING COMMUNITY STANDARDS
 Also the house community and their blocks should develop campus standards,
these are agreements made by house members on how students should relate
to and treat each other and how communication and discussions will take
place to hold themselves accountable to these agreements.
 They encourage maturity amongst all residences which will create a platform
for other students to make choices and experience the outcomes of their
choices.

SUPPORT STRUCTURE
 They facilitate the block activities through provision of necessary resources
and knowledge/information
 provide guidance to the block committee
 Monitor and assess continuous improvement of the program at block level
through implementation of joint activities.
 They are a linkage between the student welfare department and the block
committees

GENERIC COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITIES
They work together with the support structures to ensure that residents:
 Interests are met
 Leave in a conducive environment for learning
 Observe and protect the interest of the university
 Observe residential rules and students code of conduct
Relate and sensitize residents on the available structures for addressing their
needs
In liaison with the residents, they come up with a program of activities for the
LLC focus areas.

 Administer and are accountable for any funds available for use by the
residence students
 They protect and control the use of equipment and facilities available for use
by the residence students
 Liaise accordingly with other stakeholders to improve the student experience
and knowledge during their stay in the halls of residence
 exhibit appropriate role modeling when interacting with other fellow
colleagues
 Work cooperatively with the student welfare department, protection services
and any other university staff and students.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HEAD OF HOUSE
 Responsible for the overall implementation of the LLC program in the block
 Report to all the support structures
DEPUTY HEAD OF HOUSE
 support the head of house and assume the head of house post in his/her
absence
 Report to the Head of house and other support structures

TREASURER
 Taking care of all the budgets, funds and fund raising activities
 submit a detailed financial report a the end of the academic year.
SECRETARY
 Takes care of the meeting of the house comms
 Records all proceedings and makes necessary follow ups
 Keep all the block records and readily available
DEPUTY SECRETARY
Acts on behalf of the secretary on his/her absence

PORTFOLIOS
ACADEMICS & RESEARCH
 Takes care of all academics related activities targeted at enhancing the
students’ academic performance
 Promotes research and development at block level, mini projects on focus
areas would be ideal for blocks to do R & D
 To find the strongholds that lead to limited students participation in the
program
 To find out possible strategic ways of switching from entertainment based
events to academic life
 To discover the wellness of LLC stakeholders on research based matters
 To determine the hidden possibilities of students exploration on effectiveness
of job market and upgrading their fruitfulness.

HEALTH & PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
 Taking care of the health related activities
 Organize educational services on health matters
SOCIAL AND RECREATIONAL
 SPORTS
 Takes care of any sporting activities
 Form part of the LLC sports organizing committee
 ENTERTAINMENT
 Takes care of all edutainment activities in the residence halls
 Also form part of the LLC entertainment sub committees to assist in events like talent
show and fashion shows

SAFETY & SECURITY
 Takes care of maintenance, safety and security, and other facilities management activities
 Works hand in hand with the security officers in their blocks to make sure that students are free
of any illegal drugs in the halls of residence
 Also works with the alcohol representative to monitor alcohol possession and consumption in the
halls of residence
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
 Takes care of educational services in topical areas as well as community support programs.
 To assist in develop social values and social responsibility within the students thus re-instilling
the spirit of botho.

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE HOUSE
COMMITTEES
 To successfully lead the launching of the LLC and preparation for the LLC day
in the last semester of the academic year
 Market the LLC program and mobilize support for it both internally and
externally
 Utilize the lessons gained for their own personal development
 Establish their friends of the community and work actively with them to come
up with more exciting activities for their residence.
 Wrote reports on their progress to the warden, once a months and submit
semester reports to the LLC Ambassadors.
 Develop community standards (willing to assist any block in initiating that )

LASTLY…
GOAL ALIGNMENT
 Blocks should align their mission and vision statements to that of the student
welfare department (University), this also helps students know more about
them.
 Focus mostly on research based on character and personality building for the
university students, other than just on reading, writing and passing
examinations, this will help the university to produce graduated who are fit
for the world of work.
 Also we should use the LLC program for our personal growth, making
professional networks that could benefit us in the near future…

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE HOUSE COMMITTEES  To successfully lead the launching of the LLC and preparation for the LLC day in the last semester of the academic year  Market the LLC program and mobilize support for it both internally and externally  Utilize the lessons gained for their own personal development  Establish their friends of the community and work actively with them to come up with more exciting activities for their residence.  Wrote reports on their progress to the warden, once a months and submit semester reports to the LLC Ambassadors.  Develop community standards (willing to assist any block in initiating that ) 9/7/2015 Inaction breeds doubt and fear.Action breeds confidence and courage. LASTLY… GOAL ALIGNMENT  Blocks should align their mission and vision statements to that of the student welfare department (University), this also helps students know more about them.  Focus mostly on research based on character and personality building for the university students, other than just on reading, writing and passing examinations, this will help the university to produce graduated who are fit for the world of work.  Also we should use the LLC program for our personal growth, making professional networks that could benefit us in the near future… 9/7/2015 Inaction breeds doubt and fear.Action breeds confidence and courage.
