INTERNSHIPS | EXPERIENCE
MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, Durham, NC/Chapel Hill, NC September-December 2008
In-Class Intern, Public Relations Campaigns
What sets apart the very best in my
field? One’s ability to manage a crisis
and ability to adapt. The world is
changing every day, with varying
strategies for varying entities. The best
people in the field are those who can
handle the evolution.
I will be there early and leave late.
2. In a test of teamwork as well as talent, assigned to 4-person team in capstone class (in one of top, toughest programs
in U.S.), tasked with creating a PR Campaign for a Minor League Baseball division in Durham.
Initial imperative was to survey Durham residents on knowledge/opinions of MLB and conduct extensive historical
research to provide basis for matching creative ideas into Durham/MLB reality. In the process, discovered my
knack for convincing people to do surveys even if they were hesitant.
Provided creative tactics and strategies to team, producing an extensive, in-depth written campaign that adhered
relentlessly to budget. Selected by team to present campaign before Durham MLB representatives and PR
professionals.

and took notes for attornies. Observed district court proceedings, garnering the personal information of those who
qualified for a public defender and setting up their appointments. Organized cases in databook. Handled some
courtroom leg work.
THE TRANSYLVANIA TIMES, Brevard, NC Summer 2006
Staff Writer/Intern
Worked under one writer at locally owned, hometown newspaper distributed twice a week throughout Transylvania
County. Assigned new tasks every week: interviewed people, took photographs, and wrote stories; completed man-on-
the-street random interviews. Assisted layout of Arts & Music section. As easily the youngest person in the office,
acted as sounding board for certain topics. Researched archives for editor. Contributed useful story ideas for feature
pieces.
HOPE VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB, Durham, NC Fall 2009
Bag Room Attendant
Reported directly to 2 Assistant Pros (no Head Pro at the time) at exclusive country club established in 1928 with
primarily professional members. Tasked with the mission to serve members and ensure their excellent, smooth
experience. Accountable for a clean and clear (of balls) driving range, washing/storage of golf clubs, bringing out golf
carts as needed. Closed and locked the club in the evening.
Developed a cordial rapport and a positive impression with all members, always willing to go the extra mile to assist
them in any capacity possible. Never late for work; took pride in doing the job well. (I’ll admit it—I love golf.)
