COMMUNICATIONS AND MEDIA RELATIONS
Lead reporter on teams covering the 9/11 attack in New York; Highway Shooter Charles McCoy;
prosecution of former Ohio State University running back Maurice Clarett, serial killers and rapists.
As senior staff reporter for The Columbus Dispatch, responsible for the daily coverage of 46 state court
judges in Franklin County. Consistently recognized for professionalism, work ethic, and quality of products
routinely delivered.
Frequent lecturer on the newspaper industry and news coverage for local civic groups.
PUBLIC RELATIONS AND SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATION
Lead PR project manager at Peritus for clients in multiple industries and occupations, such as prison
halfway houses, construction, law, bond levies, energy and in charge of new business development.
Selected local site chairman and fundraiser of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) National
Convention, Columbus, Ohio, October 2000. Led team who successfully raised more than $200,000. Also
served as co-chairman of the National Awards Committee for the organization.
Appointed by SPJ’s past presidents as the National Membership Chairman (responsible for developing
initiatives for increased membership) and National Legal Defense Fund Chairman (responsible for
distributing cash awards to individuals or groups of journalists who had their First Amendment Rights
threatened).
Chairman, Pride Soccer Club golf outing, 2006 to present: one-day fundraisers have netted more than
$75,000 in sponsorships for local youth team.
ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
Elected to SPJ’s 23-member national board, collaborated with team to establish policy and a $1.6 million
operating budget for the organization’s headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana. Worked to provide
continuing education programming for professional journalists and college students; diversity and ethics
training and a national freedom of information coalition. Board members work closely with the Sigma
Delta Chi Foundation, the 501c(3) educational arm of SPJ with invested reserves of more than $15 million.
As member of SPJ’s board, attended national meetings to plan annual conventions, national and regional,
and develop programming. Hired multiple executive directors and oversaw operations at national
headquarters.
Finalist for the position of Executive Director for the Society of Professional Journalists during a
nationwide job search following the death of the individual in office.
