1. Things around a Fishing Village
Now we're going to look at different things
around a fishing village.

2. Harbor
A harbor is a place where ships and boats are safe
and protected from dangerous weather.
Fishermen leave their boats here.

3. Rio De Janeiro Harbor
 Also known as “Guanabara Bay”
 They will have sailing events here during the 2016
Summer Olympics
 Huge problem with pollution and trash; they will need to
clean the harbor before the Olympics start!
 The pollution is so bad, it’s even killing the fish!

4. Breakwater
Large rocks or concrete blocks that help protect
ships in the harbor from big waves. Breakwaters
absorb the energy of waves that hit it.

6. Beach
A beach is that land at the edge of a lake, ocean, or
another body of water. It usually has sand and
pebbles and is popular for vacations

 Many fisherman live in this fishing village
 Women process the fish right on the beach!
 They even cook and sell the fish there too!
