Patent Attorney/Agent/Clerk, Wood, Herron & Evans, LLP, Cincinnati, OH, 2005-2010
Litigation: Experience includes preparing and responding to litigation documents in the
areas of infringement, noninfringement, invalidity, defenses, and damages, as well as
developing litigation strategies for the same. Specifically, experience includes prior art
searches, analyzing software/computer related patents and claims, invalidity and
infringement claim charts, Markman briefing, interrogatories, requests for admissions,
document production, document review, expert reports, and discovery motion practice
such as motions for summary judgment, motions to strike, and motions to compel.
Prepared experts and deposing litigation partner for depositions, and attended depositions.
Performed legal research and assisted in other aspects of litigation such as reexaminations
prior to litigation and during litigation. I was actively involved in multiple patent
litigation cases, including the following:
o In re Katz Interactive Call Processing Patent Litigation, Central District of
California-Defended Fifth Third Bancorp et al. against Katz in one of the largest
patent multi-district proceedings in history, defending against a portfolio of
approximately fifty software, hardware, and computer patents in the field
of automated call processing relating to computer telephone integration, automated
call distribution, speech recognition, and voice response.
Preparation and Prosecution: Worked directly with inventors to prepare and/or
prosecute 60+ patent applications in primarily software, computer, and internet
technologies. Experience includes reviewing invention disclosures, preparing patent
applications, responding to Office Actions, and preparing appeal briefs. Technologies
included database optimization, internet and e-commerce, screen displays, healthcare,
computer system security, business methods, as well as dental and wireless devices.
Selected clients include IBM, Vocollect Healthcare Systems, Inc., and Ormco
Corporation. Experience further includes prosecuting trademark applications, and
counseling clients on a variety of strategic intellectual property and business issues.
Corporate: Training in the areas of strategic IP management, portfolio mapping, patent
searching and analysis, and IP landscaping. Provided training to clerks and attorneys.
