This document discusses how to use Google apps and tools to learn chemistry. It recommends visiting a website to learn about open notebook science and provides YouTube video recommendations. It then shows how to access and use a Google spreadsheet template to view and calculate molecular properties like structure images, molecular weight, melting point, and logP values for chemical compounds by entering their names. Downloading the spreadsheet as a web page preserves the structure images.
2. Open Note Book Science (ONS)
1. Go to the
usefulchem.blogpspot.com
website and read about what
open notebook science is.
2. You will get many videos at You
tube for ONS. Just type it.
3. Here we will show how you
can use google aps for learning
chemistry. Other than that
prediction of properties of
chemical compounds
http://usefulchem.blogspot.com/ 4. Follow the steps from next
slide.

3. ONS
Go to this site to open the google spreadsheet template
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak1R8T6wt4YQdHZRYXVPakxtRWZRd3
AxQTNwcVdIcUE#gid=0
4. Make a copy of the template under your google
account.
•
Give document a Start Working with your sheet
name
5. 1.gChem,gCDK and gONS have several menus and it can calculate several properties.
2. Open a new sheet and type methane in a box .On the next cell type this
=image(getCSImageURL(C2)). See what happens. You can just view the structure of the
compounds buy just typing the name.The gChem javascript has getCSImage function to
convert your query to image.
3. After than just type in your drug name and then drug the column the images
automatically gets into the column
6. Other Features
• AlogP , XlogP, Mol Wt, SMILES string,Melting
Point, AMR,TOPOPSA etc..
AlogP = getALogP(A2) # A2 name of the compound
XLogP =getXLogP(A2)
mp =getmp(A2)
AMR =getAMR(A2)
Mol Wt =getMW(A2)
8. Download
• If you want to
download the structure
along with other details
then save the page as
Web page format it will
allow the structures in
it. Then you can print
the page as pdf.
• Choosing other options
does not allow you to
access the strcuture
images.
