This presentation discusses two types of visual instructional materials: chalkboards and whiteboards. Chalkboards are reusable writing surfaces made of calcium carbonate where text or drawings are made using chalk. They vary in size depending on the classroom level. Chalkboards can be used to write, display information, organize games, and draw. Whiteboards are similar to chalkboards but are made of a material that can be written on with dry-erase markers. They are easy to maintain by wiping clean with a dry cloth or using isopropyl alcohol to remove leftover markings.
2. INTRODUCTION
Instructional materials (IM) are
important in how well a student can
learn. Some of these are audio, visual
and audio visual.
This presentation focus on two types of
visual IM, which are chalkboard and
whiteboard.
3. CHALK BOARD
Chalkboard is a
reusable writing
surface on
which text or
drawing are
made with
sticks of
calcium surface
or calcium
carbonate,
known, when
used for this
purpose, as

4. SIZE OF CHALKBOARD
Heights from floor to base of the
blackboard
Primary classrooms 0.54m
Secondary classrooms 0.64m
Tertairy classrooms 0.76m
Height of black boards
Primary 1.01m
Secondary 1.22m
Tertiary 1.37m
5. WAYS OF USING CHALKBOARD
The chalkboard can be used
to WRITE.
Teachers can use chalkboard
to DISPLAY.
The chalkboard can be used
to ORGANIZE different GAMES.
Finally, the teacher can DRAW in the
chalkboard.
8. FUNCTIONS OF CHALKBOARD
The principal functions of the
chalkboard are:
o to stimulate and provoke
o to instruct by visual means
o to reinforce the spoken or read
word, or experience
o to summarize and remind
9. USE OF COLOUR ON CHALKBOARD
The use of colour is important
when writing or drawing on the
chalkboard. For instance, you
use blue for sea and rain; yellow
for winds; green for the irrigated
plains; brown for drier plateau
and mountain; red for sun and
heat.
12. WHITEBOARD
One of the most fundamental
aspects of a classroom is
writing surface that can be used
by both the instructor and
students. Is the whiteboard.
Dry-erase markers are used to
write on it, and it can generally
be wiped clean without any
special cleaning solution.
13. Meaning of
whiteboard
Whiteboard is a non-
electronic variation
of the traditional
“rewriteable” school
room blackboard,
but is white instead
of black and of a
material that can be
written on with
colored markers
(known as dry-erase
makers).
16. HOW TO MAINTAIN THE WHITE BOARD
Whiteboards are easy to
maintain, cleaning requiring
only a dry cloth for quickly
erasing them, and isopropyl
alcohol (thinner) to get rid of
leftover markings.
