Madrid is the capital city of Spain, located in central Spain on the Manzanares River. It has a population of over 3 million people and is divided into 21 districts. Madrid has a continental Mediterranean climate and is known for its green spaces throughout the city, including El Retiro Park. The urban plan features a grid layout with blocks of flats in the central business district and more suburban housing styles like semi-detached houses in the outer areas.

• Madrid is the centre of the Iberian
Peninsula.
• Is at 667 meters above the sea.
• Manzanares is the river that passes through
Madrid.
• Is very near to the mountain range of
Guadarrama.
3. GEOGRAPHY
• Madrid is in the South subplateau, in the
Central Plateau.
• Madrid has a Continental Mediterranean
climate.
• Is located in the basin of the Tajo
• There are 3 165 235 habitants in 2014, we have
5225,14 hab./km².
• Madrid is sorrounded by Getafe, Fuenlabrada,
Leganes ,Mostoles, Alcorcon, Pozuelo, Las
Rozas, Majadahonda, Alcobendas, Torrejon
de Ardoz and Coslada.

• Madrid is divided into 21 districts.
• It has Green spaces spread throughout the
city. El Retiro, Real Jardin Botánico, Parque
del Oeste, Casa de Campo…
• It has a grid or orthogonal plan as we can
see.
• Housing in central business are blocks of flats
where people inhabit there.
5. URBAN PLAN
• There are skycrappers were important
companies are settled there.
• Around Madrid there are the outer surburbs
like Leganes, Getafe, Fuenlabrada, etc.
• Usually are semi-detached houses, but we
can found block of flats and detached
houses.
• There can be found historical buildings like
Plaza Mayor and Puerta de Alcala.
• In the inner suburb it start to be blocks of
flats. We can see some detached houses.
And also offices.
6. HISTORY
• Muhammad I ordered to built a fortress
where Madrid is now.(852-856)
• When Philip II was goberning the court was
moved there.(1561)
• When the Bourbons came they started to
improve the city.(1706)
• Madrid was involve in the battle against
france.(2 of May 1808)
• After the World War II, Madrid started to
modernize and improve.(+1945)
7. ENVIROMENTAL ISSUES
• There are two main problems the
environmental contamination, public health
and noise pollution.
• Madrid has a plan for clear the air, protect
green spaces and restore old buildings.
• Some solutions: use more public transport,
close main sources of pollution and reduce
the cental heating
