The word ‘Down’ can represent somebody being upset or going down whilst dancing. From Goodwin’s theory we know that the artist may develop motifs which reoccur throughout the video, and in this case it is the blue light that we are shown during the video which portrays sadness as Jay Sean’s girlfriend is not enjoying herself. 4. Target Audience I think the target audience for this music video are teenagers as there is a party atmosphere where people are drinking and dancing, what most teenagers do. Also the ladies are wearing dresses which most teenagers wear when they are going out. The use of dark colours shows that it is an evening party, it can also show mysteriousness as well which fits in well with the video as the girlfriend does not feel comfortable when Jay Sean is with other women. The use of the bottle shows that the guests will be drinking, having fun, chilling and partying. The ipod interacts with teenage audiences because teenagers listen to their ipods and create playlists which they can play at parties. Also, so many songs can be uploaded onto the ipod as it is a portable media player.
5. Technical Directions The song starts with a medium close up of Jay Sean in front of a mirror topless, whilst all the guests are downstairs. By staying upstairs shows that he has more power as he can keep his guests waiting as he hosted the party. Also, being shown topless could mean that he is selling himself as an artist and by being portrayed as sexy is more appealing to women which has a higher chance of women watching the video. By appearing to be good looking or sexy in the music video is a trait in R&B. This long shot of Jay Sean shows a dancer helping Jay Sean put his jacket on. This medium close up shows the female dusting his collars so that they are clean. This long shot shows the female dancers sorting out his cuffs and putting his rings on for him.
6. Technical Directions Continued… This long shot shows that Jay Sean is in front whilst the other 4 female dancers and standing behind him, 2 on either side and are dressed completely in black. Jay Sean is also dressed in black but his white shirt makes him stand out from the crowd. Also, black conotates sexiness and mysteriousness whilst white symbolizes innocence and purity. This long shot shows 5 male dancers dancing behind Jay Sean and are dressed in white which shows that he has more power over them and that he is different. This medium long shot shows the same 5 male dancers dancing behind Jay Sean but in this shot they are wearing the same as him which may shows that they are all equal but he is more significant as he is in front.
