3. Cylinder Analysis
• Problems
– Locate a .052” diameter oil sump hole
– Check to make sure oil reed is mounted
correctly
– Check to make sure plug is in correct location
• Method
– Using a sophisticated camera, one can
compare each cylinder against a master for
Pass/Fail protocol
5. Prototyping
• In order to begin solving the
problems, a prototype needed to be
built
– Initially built out of wood with
substitutes for certain specialized
components
– Allowed for easy modifications in
lighting conditions and cylinder
placement to find optimum
combination
6. 3D CAD Drawing – Pro E
• Had never used Pro E prior to working at
Briggs & Stratton
• Acclamation period took a few weeks
• Provided a good final design
• Also drafted each non-purchased part for
machine shop to create
9. Summary of Experience
• I enjoyed my project that I was assigned
– Learned how to use Pro E
– Learned some information about
manufacturing and engines in general
– Would have preferred to work under a full-
time ME as opposed to a Computer Science
employee
• Will graduate in December 2014 with about a
3.2 GPA
10. Future Plans
• Will take the GMAT in August and the FE in
October
• Would love an opportunity to work at Auburn
plant again
• Plan to get an MBA and possibly an MS in
Mechanical
• Plan to achieve Professional Engineer status
