Regional Promotions Manager (Senior Management)
Hot Dogz Inc is a unique youth promotions and PR agency renowned within the
realm of advertising through a portfolio of specialised, differentiated and innovative
services. It was named as Youth Specialist Company in October 1998 at Sun City,
and has secured numerous prestigious contracts, including the organising of
Madiba’s 80th birthday celebrations.
Clients included The Pioneer Food Group (and co-partners Bokomo, Illovo, Colgate
and E-TV), Simba, Beacon, SARFU, Kellogg’s, Procter & Gamble, and Metrorail.
Initially joined Hot Dogz Inc, Eastern Cape, as Assistant Promotions Manager. Was
promoted in March 1999 to Regional Promotions Manager in Cape Town to head up
the Western and Southern Cape Regions’ Promotions Portfolio.
Brief synopsis of duties and activities:
The implementation of all regional Marketing campaigns
Budgetary control and financial reporting;
Publicity events / events management;
Internal communication (writing and editing of all newsletters and
correspondence);
Coordination of all television and photo shoots;
Community development / social responsibility projects;
Client Relationship Management;
Design and layout;
Product development;
Media relations, promotional and marketing presentations, and tours;
Management report, including bi-monthly National conference attendance
and participation; and
Human Resources management.
Some of the HIGHLIGHTS included:
HOT DOGZ INC – Eastern Cape
Significantly increased Sasko’s market share from 23% to over 83% within a 2-
year period. Character development has ensured that campaigns for
2. Colgate, Illovo and Educom have and will be launched independently from
Sasko Sam the Breadman.
Ambassador’s Programme – This was launched as a competition to
incentivise the Sasko staff. The programme has significantly enhanced staff
morale and overall productivity and has been adopted on a full-time basis
throughout.
Have maintained an unprecedented positive relationship with the client staff
force as a result of consistent personalised relationship building and individual
attention.
Created a Kiddies Club database with relevant information online. This has
streamlined and enhanced operational effectiveness, research and provision
for database marketing.
In addition, created a database for all the schools in the Eastern Cape and
now also the Western Cape, which again enhances overall events
management.
Was offered a promotion to head up the copywriter function at Head Office
– declined.
Established excellent rapport with press whilst in PE, earning a reputation for
reliability, cooperation and innovation. As a result received the most media
coverage (publicity).
HOT DOGZ INC – Western Cape
Have cultivated excellent relationship with presenters and production team
of company’s own SABC TV programme ensuring continuous contact with
production houses. Also gained a wealth of experience, coaching and
facilitation of large capacity crowds of 1 000 and more.
Contributed to the Pioneer Food Group Newsletter on behalf of Sasko, over
and above normal editing, writing of regional newsletters and national
newsletter.
Saved company extreme costs with distribution of promotional diaries -
ensuring all 83 000 recipients received them within a 1-week period opposed
to 5 weeks.
Some of the major projects/functions planned, organised, coordinated and
personally implemented included:
Youth Day – organised this huge media event securing attendance of Paul
Adams to celebrate this newly-declared date.
Kids Against Crime – The first of its kind attended by the Mayor of Cape Town
and other media personalities, additional sponsorship was secured from Absa,
Coca-Cola and was televised by YO-TV.
3. “You’re Special” Schools’ Competition – As a result of the success of the Youth
Day event was requested to coordinate, manage and launch the annual
National event.
Entertainment/branding shows at annual festivals/events, among others:
Rainbow Children’s Festival, Kidz Expo, in-store promotions, school shows and
televised community projects. These have all received extensive coverage as
a result of high profile personalities’ endorsement and involvement, including
Mr Thabo Mbeki.
The national launch for the “You’re Special” 2000 campaign – media turnout
excelled all expectations.
Organised Miss SA Teen, Herschelle Gibbs and Craig Matthews to share a
message with kids as to why they are special (also for TV purposes).
Received “Best Marketing and PR stall” at the Kidz Expo 2000.
