2. The exhibition features 108 pieces of Cissy and Robert Tang’s jade
collection spanning from Neolithic times to late Qing period. It shows the
collector’s preference for personal ornaments, human-like sculptures and literati
accoutrements and illustrates the complex relationship between jade, a special
rock—a gift from Nature—and the men and women who chose to manipulate
it as a vehicle to express their spiritual beliefs, social values, and personal
sentiments over the past millennia.
In conjunction with furniture, painting, calligraphy and other Chinese works
from the same collection, the exhibition attempts to create a contemplative
space to show how traditional Chinese collectors enjoy their acquisitions.
An accompanying catalogue, Chinese Jades from the Cissy and Robert Tang
Collection by Jenny F. So (with the assistance of Chu Xin and a contribution
by Chi Jo-hsin), presents research and insights into individual pieces in
the collection.
是
次展覽呈現「喜聞過齋」一百零八件藏玉，歷時
新石器時代至清晚期，以佩飾、人形 / 像玉器
及文房陳設雅玩為特色，展示數千年來集天地自然
精華的礦物「玉」與社會生活主體的「人」之間的
彼此互動，詮釋其在宗教信仰、社會價值及個人
情懷方面的功能與角色。
展陳將玉器與藏家的明清傢俱、書畫收藏融為一體，
意在營造傳統文人置身書齋，品古養性，景物兩宜
的情境。展覽圖錄 Chinese Jades from the Cissy and Robert
Tang Collection 由蘇芳淑主持執筆，褚馨協助、嵇若昕
撰文，為解讀每一件展品提供豐富的研究信息。
