INTRO TO DESIGN
PART 2B – THE TOY DISPLAY BOX
Submission Week 18 – 6th of February 2014, Friday 8AM
@CODA
In t his f inal part st udent s are required t o prepare a 3D m odel of
t he Toy Display Box and 3 A2 present at ion boards. In this final
part students are required to draw all the required illustration by
hand and to creatively demonstrate their basic skills of
architectural drawings, architectural rendering, architectural
graphics and simple diagrammatic explanations and sketches to
clearly explain their concept, ideas, design elements and design
principles applications and how the display works. In t he process
st udent s are required t o produce draf t m odels and draf t
draw ings and present at ion layout s.
In t his project t he m ain idea is t o creat e a display box t o place
t he Lego t oy charact er by applying basic design elem ent s and
principles. It is im port ant t o underst and t he t oy charact er f irst
t o derive ideas t hat best suit s t he t oy charact er.

PART 2B – REQUIREMENTS
- St udent s m ay use m axim um of 3 dif f erent t ypes of m at erials t o produce t he
m odel of t he display box. You m ay color t he base.
- The display box should f ocus on t he design elem ent s and principles used t hat
are suit able w it h t he t oy charact er or t he key w ord or approached select ed.
- The display box should not have any graphic visuals such as cave or f low ery
pat t ern or t rees or any sym bols. It should only be produce f rom sim ple basic
lines, basic colors, shapes, planes or volum es.
- St udent m ust use t he base and cover ordered f or everyone t hat cost RM30.
- The size of t he display should f it in t he display box and it should not exceed
150Lx150Wx150H.
- St udent s m ay prepare t he draw ings and inf orm at ion on any t ype of
present at ion board and using any t ype of m edium .
- A2 presentation boards with the followings details;
1. It is compulsory f or t he st udent s are required t o draw t he plan OR t op
view , m in 3 elevat ion, one sect ion and one perspect ive or axonom et ric
of t he proposed display box. These drawings are ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS TO
SCALE! 1:1 or 2:1 and please use a ruler its not freehand.

2. The boards MUST include a brief int roduct ion of your t ask, brief inf orm at ion
about your t oy charact er, t he select ed keyw ords and design process, how t he

4. Must give a “nam e” t o t he proposed display box on t he present at ion board.
5. All draw ings, sket ches and diagram s m ust be hand draw n and t ext t o be hand
w rit t en as archit ect ural handw rit ing using pencils OR pens.
6. St udent m ay use any kind of m edium , m at erials and archit ect ural t echnique
t o produce t he draw ings BUT collage or reprinting is NOT acceptable.
7. Draw ing t echniques m ust f ollow t he basic archit ect ural hat ching, archit ect ure
convent ions, archit ect ural graphic, line w eight , sym bols et c. Must label all
draw ings and illust rat ions w it h scale and proper annot at ions.
8. The A2 draw ing board orient at ion could be all landscape or all port rait s only.
Maxim um 3 and m inim um 2 A2 boards.
9. Please add your nam e, id num ber, Int ro t o Design FNBE APRIL 2014 and Taylor’s
logo nicely on t he board.
Tips: Please ref er t o t he DK Ching book f or present at ion layout s and preparat ion.
All sketches, doodles, research, planning, discussion to be place in the e-portfolio. It’s
the responsibility of every student to make sure they record the process and final
product of their work.

INTRO TO DESIGN PART 2B – THE TOY DISPLAY BOX Submission Week 18 – 6th of February 2014, Friday 8AM @CODA In t his f inal part st udent s are required t o prepare a 3D m odel of t he Toy Display Box and 3 A2 present at ion boards. In this final part students are required to draw all the required illustration by hand and to creatively demonstrate their basic skills of architectural drawings, architectural rendering, architectural graphics and simple diagrammatic explanations and sketches to clearly explain their concept, ideas, design elements and design principles applications and how the display works. In t he process st udent s are required t o produce draf t m odels and draf t draw ings and present at ion layout s. In t his project t he m ain idea is t o creat e a display box t o place t he Lego t oy charact er by applying basic design elem ent s and principles. It is im port ant t o underst and t he t oy charact er f irst t o derive ideas t hat best suit s t he t oy charact er. 1
  • 2. PART 2B – REQUIREMENTS - St udent s m ay use m axim um of 3 dif f erent t ypes of m at erials t o produce t he m odel of t he display box. You m ay color t he base. - The display box should f ocus on t he design elem ent s and principles used t hat are suit able w it h t he t oy charact er or t he key w ord or approached select ed. - The display box should not have any graphic visuals such as cave or f low ery pat t ern or t rees or any sym bols. It should only be produce f rom sim ple basic lines, basic colors, shapes, planes or volum es. - St udent m ust use t he base and cover ordered f or everyone t hat cost RM30. - The size of t he display should f it in t he display box and it should not exceed 150Lx150Wx150H. - St udent s m ay prepare t he draw ings and inf orm at ion on any t ype of present at ion board and using any t ype of m edium . - A2 presentation boards with the followings details; 1. It is compulsory f or t he st udent s are required t o draw t he plan OR t op view , m in 3 elevat ion, one sect ion and one perspect ive or axonom et ric of t he proposed display box. St udent m ay use any kind of m edium , m at erials and archit ect ural t echnique t o produce t he draw ings BUT collage or reprinting is NOT acceptable. 7. It’s the responsibility of every student to make sure they record the process and final product of their work. 3

The Thinking Process, Idea & Exploration – (How well and confident the students understand the character, appropriate key word, translation and application of design elements & principles, the overall outcome of the display box, the placement of the toy character. – looking at overall through model + boards + verbal presentation) /30% Tro cho exra inqu hera 20 Originality, creativity, suitability of materials and workmanship quality of the model. (the condition and design of the model – the model making technique, choice of material) /20% Originality, creativity and workmanship quality of the drawings & presentation layout. (the graphic communication of the presentation boards, material and techniques, with architecture handwriting, the layout of the presentation boards and the DRAWINGS – orthographic drawings – colored or hatched – line weight - labelling) /15% layout /15% drwg 30 Clarity of content and the structure of the content to explanation the application of elements and principles of design and concept development or design process.
