This document discusses ethics and its relevance to education. Ethics is defined as a branch of philosophy concerned with human conduct and what is morally right or wrong. There are three general areas of ethics: metaethics examines the origins of ethical principles; normative ethics focuses on duties and consequences; and applied ethics looks at specific issues. In education, ethics are important as they establish standards for acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Teachers should treat all students equally with sensitivity to how their actions can affect students. Ethics combines morals and reasoning.
