Essay On Teacher Discipline
Justice: Increasing Teacher Income "If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key
societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher"(A.PJ Abdul Kalam). Having people who are able to
teach a new generation is a special skill that requires patience and knowledge.Having a teacher is different than having a good teacher because they
might not be the best for studying a certain subject. So making an investment into better teachers and giving them better pay, making the young minds
of the future better equipped for jobs and future situations that are of major importance, such as voting, taxes, and planning for their own lives. A
good teacher helps students when they are stuck on something in order to get them up to speed with the class, and a teacher helps the class by
making notes understandable, and figuring out the importance of the subject. Although if there is a raise in the pay for teachers the amount of
competition would rise too. If the pay grade of a teacher was raised many people would want to become one for their favorite subject, thus the
competition would rise up leaving not that many openings for other people to become one, although people may only be in it for the money and not
for the students. "A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning" (Brad Henry). Making the student even more

Having responsibility in a military environment is of absolute importance. Without responsibility, the basic functions of a military force cannot be
carried out with complete integrity. Each individual must perform their duties as instructed, regardless of how menial or unimportant the duty may
seem to the individual. The failure to carry out your duties is telling of a lack of discipline, which is a vital military resource. Consistent ignorance of
obligations and responsibilities results in complacency. Complacency and lack of discipline are both arguably the worst traits a soldier and a military
as a whole can carry. They are recurring factors in many historic military disasters.
This sort of discipline is what separates a professional military force such as the United States Army from the military forces of other nations, such as
the Iraqi Army. It is the reason that our military is one of the most successful military forces in all of human history. It is the reason that we are the
force that is known worldwide as undefeatable. The difference between a disciplined and undisciplined force has been tested many times throughout
history. This has been shown even in recent wars, such as theIraq War. The lack of discipline on the part of the Iraqi Armed Forces may not have been
the only or the biggest factor of their loss, but it was definitely seen throughout the war as the Iraqi forces had mass routing and unorganized retreats
constantly. The battle of Nasiriyah saw many

Essay On Child Discipline
Discipline has always been an effective way to guide children. There are many forms of discipline that parents use and they all have an effect. Some
work better for some children while other forms may work for another. Parents can sometimes be stuck with how they should discipline their children
and they want to know more about what is effective. In terms of punishment one form that is commonly used is corporal punishment, which is
punishment in the physical form. One form of corporal punishment is spanking. For years and years, the spanking debate has been a major parenting
dilemma. There are those that believe that spanking is wrong and shouldn't be used and there are others who believe that sometimes a good spanking

The article hits home that parents shouldn't spank their kids "I don't want readers to think everyone who spanks their kid is abusive, but it is a violent
behavior and we certainly don't condone it. There are alternatives. You never need to spank your child" (Marcus). The information presented in this
article is using anecdotal evidence. It presents anecdotal evidence by gathering information from parents and non– parent's experiences and comparing
them. The article also gathers information from the psychology department from SMU, but doesn't provide any well supported scientific statistics. The
child effects are slightly touched on in the form of how a child acts in the long run "spanking a child leads to more bad behaviors, not the better
manners some parents may wish for. A five– decade study out last year found that kids who are spanked are more likely to be aggressive and
antisocial" (Marcus). There are multiple influences that tie into spanking and why maybe some parents will choose to spank their children over others.
Some influences include culture, parenting in culture, and parenting based on socio– economic status. In the article The Great Spanking Debate it

Discipline Is a Must at Home and in School
Discipline is a must at home and in school.
Discipline is the training of the mind and character; the exercise, development and control of the character, intended to produce obedience and orderly
behavior. The definition above is apt enough for the type of discipline intended for the young people at school.
The need for disciplining young people cannot be over–emphasized. A wise saying goes "Spare the rod and spoilt thechild". An undisciplined child
becomes a spoil child. The disciplining does not necessarily involve the use of cane. It should normally take the form of corrections by the educators
through the setting of good examples and verbal corrections. It is the repeated and deliberate tendencies to incorrigibility that should...show more

Even when a good spade work had been done on the children with regard to discipline before the children start schooling this good spade work can be
spoilt as a result of contact with other children who have not had the advantage from home. It is the duty of the school to ensure that those with
pre–school good discipline are still better moulded while those still lacking in many essentials of good discipline are made to be good.
But at home where the children spend most of their time with the parents and relatives, friends and acquaintances, the good work the school is
doing can either be helped or hindered. If the children are shown and made to follow the good ideas taught in the school it is necessary that what
they and made to act at home be similar to the good ideas taught in the school. If what they do at home are at variance with what goes on in school
the children become people of 'two worlds' and confusion and frustration result from these conflicting ideas. It is for this reason that the home and the
school should mutually seek advice and inquire on what is not properly understood or clear as to the proper upbringing of these children. The children
should be made to understand that the home is in the school and vice versa. Neither of the two should be made a refuge from the rigours of the
training of the other. When this happens well behaved, responsible and good citizens are bred.

What Is Discipline Essay
Do you really understand what it means to 'discipline' someone? How do you define discipline? Does it mean helping someone get on the right track
or is it about casting judgment or punishing a person for doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to give
you a view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with your team.
Observations about discipline:
Avoiding confrontation – Many people don't like to discipline their employees because they view it as a form of confrontation which may lead to
conflict. Most of us try to avoid conflict and therefore put off any communication that may trigger conflict.
Discipline is perceived as judgment and punishment – But...show more content...
By the Greek definition, it's about helping someone use their energy efficiently to become more effective in their job.
Discipline saves time and energy – It makes more sense to take action and discipline someone than it does to waste time and energy thinking about it.
There are five progressive stages of discipline that can be used with individuals and help a team use its energy more effectively. The process begins
with simple communication and then builds in intensity of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or finds
a new job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an effective team member. They are not designed to judge or
punish an employee. The manager must exercise compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual.
1. Communicate – It's imperative that an employee understands completely what is expected of him. What are his responsibilities and goals? How are
they to be carried out? In what time frame must they be completed? How will their performance be

Foucault's Discipline and Punish Essay
Crime is inevitable in society, whether it be in traditional societies or in modern society. However, with an action, there are always has to be a
consequence, however when breaking the law, the consequences are rather bad, and sometimes harsh. This is called punishment. Discipline is
enforcing acceptable patterns of behaviour and teaching obedience. In an excerpt called Discipline and Punish, contemporary theorist Michael Foucault
explains these two concepts. This paper will summarize the author's main points; provide a comparison with a theorist previously lectured on in class,
as well as a personal interpretation of Foucault's arguments. As probably studied in any law or history class, punishment in medieval times consisted of

Prison is an important place, because it takes away the power from individuals. This means that the criminal is no longer acting upon his will, but
that of the officers, judge, guards, etc. "They are the foundation of society, and an element in its equilibrium." (215) All the techniques, when created,
they "attained a level at which formation of knowledge and the increase of power regularly reinforce the other." (216) This part of the paper will
provide a comparison with a theorist previously discussed in a lecture. The theorist with whom Michael Foucault's arguments will be compared to is
Emile Durkheim. Durkheim sees crime as functional. He says that if there was no crime, all our values would be dispersed––these values are laws.
These laws are observed by sanctions and punishments attached to it. However, in order for these laws to exist, there must be a punishment, thus, for
there to be a punishment, there has to be crime. Repressive law, according to this classical theorist was based on punishing for the evil doing of the
criminal through revenge. Durkheim believes that a crime is not collective and when one goes against the core values of society, one threatens the
entire order of society. Therefore, this theorist would agree with Foucault that when disciplining a criminal, he or she should be stripped of their
freedom and when

Essay On School Discipline
The morning routine of the high school boy in the 60s was to wake up, prepare for the day, eat breakfast, and then leave for school. His morning may
sound familiar to many high school students today and his school–day along with student life has its similarities and differences to high school students
now. After about 57 years, many changes have taken place in school having to do with disciplinary actions, daily life, and the trends. Students
throughout the year have altered the school disciplinary measures. Disciplinary actions are handled differently throughout the years. During my
grandfather, Bob Bateman's, high school career, different, more memorable discipline was used. For example, in Bob's shop class, "...a student
repeatedly would throw erasers into one of the furnaces...", and the teacher's action was to heat up a metal rod and poke the student with the rod. This
is an austere form of discipline, and is incredibly different from today. During Jan, my grandfather's wife's time as a student, she dealt with a teacher
who threw a desk with a student sitting in it onto the floor. Thankfully, teachers today are not violent, as opposed to my grandfather and Jan's teachers.
As a result of the constantly changing world, generational mindsets have been affected by major events. For example, Bob was a senior when he was
chosen in the draft lottery. Since his stress of being drafted was so large at the time, he still remembers his number, 270. Due to his

Essay on the Importance of Discipline
Discipline is the process of training oneself in obedience, self control, skill, etc. The controlled, ordered behavior results from such training. Discipline
is the basis of the whole universe.
The solar system is governed by certain laws to maintain perfect harmony and beauty. Without this order, there would be utter chaos. Discipline is a
basic requirement of a civilized society. Citizens of a disciplined nation work with a spirit of cooperation and unity. Aristotle has rightly said,
"Discipline is obedience to rules formed by the society for the good of all.

Members of political parties should follow a certain code of ethics. They should always act in a disciplined manner. In the past, leaders fought for
freedom and now our leaders have the freedom to fight among themselves. The direct telecast of Parliamentary Session in doordarshan gives us the
picture of the unruly behavior of our respected Parliamentarians inside the Parliament. The common man has started losing faith in political parties and
the system. Steps should be taken to improve its image.
Without discipline there can be no scientific advances, no industrial or technological achievement, no settled system of law, no exploration and no
development. Discipline is essential for personal growth and national prosperity. Absence of it can lead to failure, defeat and backwardness. Respect of
parents, teachers and elders should be given importance. Honesty and integrity and doing a duty with devotion and dedication should be stressed.
There should be a spirit of harmony, co–operation and mutual respect co–existent among fellow human beings. All should follow the rules and
regulations laid by law. Discipline means full realization of the sense of responsibility. This will bring progress and prosperity in the society and the
nation. A proper and reasonable balance has to be stuck betweenliberty

Legal risks have become increasingly criminalized, with investigations and prosecutions today directed at corporate directors and officers individually,
as companies under investigation choose to "cooperate" with law enforcement (Wing, & Oringer, 2015). Discipline is a form of training that enforces
organizational rules. Discipline in the organization sets the tone for self–control, dedication, and orderly conduct. Discipline from a HR viewpoint is
the punishment of employees. For example, if a manager has complaints about the tardiness of an employee to the HR, the HR manager calls the
employee to their office and gives them a verbal warning about their tardiness. When it comes to separation, it can be voluntary or involuntary.

Conflicts whether it is functional or dysfunctional are the disagreements. In a wide sense employee conflict can refer to any clash in the workplace. It
can be between the employee and the employer, or between the employee and other employees. It is important to deal with employee conflict in a
timely manner to maintain a healthy work environment. It is important to resolve employee conflicts because if these are not dealt with appropriately
it can lead to larger issues which may become uncontrollable. Managers and supervisors have a key responsibility to ensure that workplace conflicts
are resolved. Employees who have complaints about co–workers should be advised in the employee hand book to try to work out their differences
directly with those co–workers before asking a supervisor or a manager to step in and resolve. For example, I have an issue with associates taking my

Classroom Management Related to Discipline
Teacher–Student Relationship Student–teacher relationship is a vital role in managing a classroom and discipline. As a teacher, being able to connect
with students is a key to academic instructional success; students are more likely to show respect to a teacher if that teacher has a connection with the
students. Every teacher is bound to encounter a time when discipline must be used in some way. How is this discipline going to affect the
student–teacher relationship? Jong, Mainhard, Tartwijk, Veldman, Verloop, & Wubbels (2013) explored how student

This consists of posting, no more than four rules in the classroom and having a list of 6 consequences that build upon one another, beginning with a
warning, followed by writing the student's name on the board, and ending with having a parent come to the school for a parent–teacher conference
(Logan, 2003). That discipline technique was aimed at middle and high school students; the author also suggests a similar technique for elementary age
students. "Watch the Signs!" is a discipline program that utilized color–coded paper for each student to signal the students behavior: green= satisfactory,
blue= needs to improve, yellow=needs to improve, red= unsatisfactory (Logan, 2003, p. 16–17). Each color, with the exception of green, also has a
repercussion ranging from a 10 minute time–out to a phone call to a parent to an out of classroom timeout (Logan, 2003). A large part of having an
effective classroom and discipline program is communicating the classroom expectation early and clearly. Along with the expectations, communicating
the consequences for misbehavior to all students. By having clear consequences for students, there is no question that by doing behavior X, the
student will be held accountable and be disciplined by consequence Y. I agree with the framework that Logan did with the discipline programs in this
article. I would change some of the consequence progressions in some of the examples provided

Discipline
Discipline is the process of teaching the child what type of behavior is acceptable and what type is not acceptable, it teaches a child to follow rules.
Discipline may involve both punishment, such as a time out, and, more importantly, rewards. It sounds so straightforward, yet every parent becomes
frustrated at one time or another with issues surrounding children and discipline.
Every parent wants their children to be happy, respectful, respected by others, and able to find their place in the world as well–behaved adults. Nobody
wants to be accused of raising a spoiled brat. Our responsibility as a parent is to help our child become self–reliant, respectful, and self–controlled.

But our goal should not be to turn him into someone he is not.
As my children grew and began to understand the connection between actions and consequences, I started communicating the rules of our family's
home, explained what I expect of them.
Even when disciplining my children I show respect – they are more likely to respect me, other family members, and other people in their life. If I
"lose it" or overreact with disrespect, I apologize. Actually I behave the way I want them to behave.
For instance, the first time my 3–year–old son used pencil to decorate the bedroom wall, I discussed why that's not allowed and what will happen if he
will do it again – he will have to help clean the wall and will not be able to use the pencils for the rest of the day. I explained also that pencils are for
paper only and not for wall.
In other words I establish this kind of "I set the rules and you're expected to listen or accept the consequences" standard. Consistency is the key to
effective discipline, and it's important to decide what the rules are and then uphold them. Timeouts also can work well for kids at this age, however I
didn't give them timeouts.
I always reward good behaviors. I know how positive effect my praise can have – discipline is not just about punishment but also about recognizing
good behavior.

Grievance and disciplinary
Critically explain the key skills required to prepare, conduct and conclude grievance and disciplinary cases effectively (40%)
Discipline and grievance are often put together, however, 'most organisations try to keep discipline and grievance apart, therefore to distinguish the idea
that there are a number of conceptual and practical differences between discipline and grievance' (Dundon and Rollinson, 2011).
Discipline is defined as 'some action taken against an individual who fails to conform to the rules of an organisation of which he or she is a member',
(Wheeler, 1976, as cited by Dundon and Rollinson, 2011).
The grievance procedure can be defined in many ways, the International Labour Organisation defines grievance as follows,...show more content...
When preparing for a grievance meeting, managers should arrange a meeting in private, consider having someone that is not involved in the case to
take notes, consider any special requirements for the employee if they have difficulty conversing in English, or is perhaps disabled and consider
whether to offer independent mediation.
When conducting the grievance meeting, managers are expected to make introductions as necessary, give the employee an opportunity to restate their
grievance and how they wish for it to be solved, put care and thought into resolving the grievance, consider adjourning the meeting if it is necessary to
investigate any new facts which arise and sum up the main points from the meeting (ACAS, 2015). When concluding the meeting, it is important for
the manager to keep the employee in the know by informing them on when they can expect a response if one cannot be made immediately (ACAS,
2015).
Disciplinary procedures follow a similar process to grievance procedures although they are not exactly the same. For example, employers should talk
to the employee in private if they feel the employee is not performing to expected standards. The discussion should be encouraging performance and
any criticism should most definitely be constructive in order to keep the rapport intact. The manager should make it clear to the

Discipline According to Sailor (2010), "Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or
perfect." The article talks about discipline and punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a punishment
while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated by Hogan (2012), "True discipline, however, comes from within
the child." Therefore, parents and teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching, (2) experiencing
freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions.

There is no freedom when discipline is there, especially with the fact that physical discipline is strongly used by the Samoan teachers. Samoan students
are afraid to do anything on their own because they have to obey what the teacher said. Hogan (2012) stated that, "This level of discipline cannot be
achieved through commands and orders, but through experiencing freedom." The students have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how
to behave instead of punishment that can lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom.
The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or
not?), develop themselves physically, learning how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves. For
example, instead of getting told to think about something in a certain time, the students can think as long as they want about the topic.

Clearly, if a rule is unenforceable, it is not worth having. Standards of conduct must be maintained but they must be realistic so as to contribute to the
proper functioning of the workplace. Rules governing insubordination, theft, vandalism, gambling on company premises, drinking on the job and
taking drugs at work, are all related to productivity and the general wellbeing of an organization, (Eni, 2000). It is believed that the most unpleasant
role of an organizational leader is to institute a disciplinary action to an erring employee (Franklin and Pagan, 2006). Although the goal is to modify
the employees undesirable behaviors, their decisions are often subjected to opposing personal interpretations. Discipline entails a process of learning.
One of the positive contributions which discipline can make in our lives is that it brings about knowledge that is cumulative; knowledge that maintains
and knowledge that restructures society when applied. And there cannot be an end to learning because society does not operate in a state of static
equilibrium but in a state of generativity in terms of idea

Essay about Child Discipline
Children in today's society seems to be more "out of control" than prior generations. Is this due to lack of discipline? For generations children were
spanked, had their mouths smacked when back talking, or other various forms of discipline that today would be viewed as child abuse. With today's
generation, when spanking, if a mark is left on that child for longer than 24 hours, it is considered child abuse. How did society, who once thought
spanking was okay, go to not seeing eye to eye? Through many years of research, psychologist are beginning to see that spanking or being aggressive

Dr. Thomas Phelan, a registered clinical psychologist has been working in the field for over 40 years. He has written numerous books that help
parents learn key ways to discipline their children. His book series "1–2–3 Magic" is very popular and has helped millions of parents reach out and be
able to help parents encourage positive behavior in their children without the use of spanking. Dr. Phelan talks about how to break the cycle so many
parents use. The cycle he talks about is "Talk–Persuade–Argue–Yell–Hit." (Phelan 1) This cycle only teaches the child that it is okay to yell and hit.
All too often we see children with tempers. Many times these tempers seem to stem from their home life. Parents use physical discipline/punishment to
get through to their child and all that does is teach them that being aggressive and physical is okay. They end up getting into a scuff with another child
at school and begin yelling and then hit the child. Some children have been known to be choked, even in pre–school. These are the cases where the
child's behavior can easily be tied to the environment in which they live. Where else would they learn to become that aggressive?
Aggressive behavior as a child leads to advanced aggression as an adolescent and causes juveniles to start causing problems within society. Studies
have been done with different groups of parents. "The Abusive profile applied to families who reported at least one severe assault on

The self–discipline required to be an academically successful college student is at a much higher level than that of the required self–discipline of a high
school student. Fortunately, I attended a private Catholic high school that prepares its students very well for college. The age gap between a senior in
high school and a college freshman may only be a few months to a year, but the way they are treated is the comparison of a baby to an adult. College
professors try very hard to instruct the students but they realize that it is up to the students to put in the efforts to achieve success. The student's
amount of effort will determine how much is learned or how little is learned in a class. The atmosphere of high school is much...show more content...
The students are on a very time oriented schedule. Schedules are the same each day and if a student does not make it to class on time or come at
all, these mistakes are sometimes punishable. In college, if someone is late to classes or do not show up at all, the student misses out and grades
will suffer. Professors more or less do not care if a student show up or not. In the end, not showing up only effects the student. If you fall behind in a
class because you have poor attendance they consider it unfortunate and expect the student to find a way to catch up on work. Faculty will rarely tell
students to come to class. The schedule may be different for each day of the week and a student is expected to be responsible enough to keep up with
the schedule and all of the classwork.
While in high school, the goal is to receive a general understanding of different subjects so when you enroll in college, you will be able to narrow
down your interests. A college curriculum may differentiate greatly from a high school curriculum. When in college, most students have a general
understanding of what they might like to focus on as a potential career so their courses reflect that. Some college students might have absolutely no
idea what they want to do, but that is okay.
In high school, all students take similar general classes like English, math, history, and science. Of course, there are always different variations of

If there was no discipline, people would do whatever they wanted and make terrible mistakes without putting the consideration of others first and

you to differentiate right from wrong and see the long–term effects of your actions. If you put your mind to it, you can learn to develop discipline and
prevent these harmful thing from happening. Now what does the religion Islam say about discipline? Well, according to Al–Islam.com, discipline and
control in Islam is not equal to dictatorship. For example, good parents take into consideration the age and understanding of the child, his or her
circumstances, and other relative factors. Rules are then made accordingly. Important points are also stated such as: when disciplining a child, the
parent should refrain from becoming a dictator. A rule is not to be followed because "I say so" but because it is the right thing to do. Also another
important point that stood out to me was to be in control of yourself when you are disciplining or being disciplined and when a mistake has been
made, to let the person make amends. This is a part of Islam. Forgiveness. Islam is not about having anger in our hearts, it is about peace. If you are
practicing the religion Islam, you have to also strive to be a good Muslim. Am I a good Muslim? No. Do I

Essay On Teacher Discipline

  • 1. Essay On Teacher Discipline Justice: Increasing Teacher Income "If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher"(A.PJ Abdul Kalam). Having people who are able to teach a new generation is a special skill that requires patience and knowledge.Having a teacher is different than having a good teacher because they might not be the best for studying a certain subject. So making an investment into better teachers and giving them better pay, making the young minds of the future better equipped for jobs and future situations that are of major importance, such as voting, taxes, and planning for their own lives. A good teacher helps students when they are stuck on something in order to get them up to speed with the class, and a teacher helps the class by making notes understandable, and figuring out the importance of the subject. Although if there is a raise in the pay for teachers the amount of competition would rise too. If the pay grade of a teacher was raised many people would want to become one for their favorite subject, thus the competition would rise up leaving not that many openings for other people to become one, although people may only be in it for the money and not for the students. "A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning" (Brad Henry). Making the student even more capable in life, and in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Having responsibility in a military environment is of absolute importance. Without responsibility, the basic functions of a military force cannot be carried out with complete integrity. Each individual must perform their duties as instructed, regardless of how menial or unimportant the duty may seem to the individual. The failure to carry out your duties is telling of a lack of discipline, which is a vital military resource. Consistent ignorance of obligations and responsibilities results in complacency. Complacency and lack of discipline are both arguably the worst traits a soldier and a military as a whole can carry. They are recurring factors in many historic military disasters. This sort of discipline is what separates a professional military force such as the United States Army from the military forces of other nations, such as the Iraqi Army. It is the reason that our military is one of the most successful military forces in all of human history. It is the reason that we are the force that is known worldwide as undefeatable. The difference between a disciplined and undisciplined force has been tested many times throughout history. This has been shown even in recent wars, such as theIraq War. The lack of discipline on the part of the Iraqi Armed Forces may not have been the only or the biggest factor of their loss, but it was definitely seen throughout the war as the Iraqi forces had mass routing and unorganized retreats constantly. The battle of Nasiriyah saw many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay On Child Discipline Discipline has always been an effective way to guide children. There are many forms of discipline that parents use and they all have an effect. Some work better for some children while other forms may work for another. Parents can sometimes be stuck with how they should discipline their children and they want to know more about what is effective. In terms of punishment one form that is commonly used is corporal punishment, which is punishment in the physical form. One form of corporal punishment is spanking. For years and years, the spanking debate has been a major parenting dilemma. There are those that believe that spanking is wrong and shouldn't be used and there are others who believe that sometimes a good spanking gets the point...show more content... The article hits home that parents shouldn't spank their kids "I don't want readers to think everyone who spanks their kid is abusive, but it is a violent behavior and we certainly don't condone it. There are alternatives. You never need to spank your child" (Marcus). The information presented in this article is using anecdotal evidence. It presents anecdotal evidence by gathering information from parents and non– parent's experiences and comparing them. The article also gathers information from the psychology department from SMU, but doesn't provide any well supported scientific statistics. The child effects are slightly touched on in the form of how a child acts in the long run "spanking a child leads to more bad behaviors, not the better manners some parents may wish for. A five– decade study out last year found that kids who are spanked are more likely to be aggressive and antisocial" (Marcus). There are multiple influences that tie into spanking and why maybe some parents will choose to spank their children over others. Some influences include culture, parenting in culture, and parenting based on socio– economic status. In the article The Great Spanking Debate it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Discipline Is a Must at Home and in School Discipline is a must at home and in school. Discipline is the training of the mind and character; the exercise, development and control of the character, intended to produce obedience and orderly behavior. The definition above is apt enough for the type of discipline intended for the young people at school. The need for disciplining young people cannot be over–emphasized. A wise saying goes "Spare the rod and spoilt thechild". An undisciplined child becomes a spoil child. The disciplining does not necessarily involve the use of cane. It should normally take the form of corrections by the educators through the setting of good examples and verbal corrections. It is the repeated and deliberate tendencies to incorrigibility that should...show more content... Even when a good spade work had been done on the children with regard to discipline before the children start schooling this good spade work can be spoilt as a result of contact with other children who have not had the advantage from home. It is the duty of the school to ensure that those with pre–school good discipline are still better moulded while those still lacking in many essentials of good discipline are made to be good. But at home where the children spend most of their time with the parents and relatives, friends and acquaintances, the good work the school is doing can either be helped or hindered. If the children are shown and made to follow the good ideas taught in the school it is necessary that what they and made to act at home be similar to the good ideas taught in the school. If what they do at home are at variance with what goes on in school the children become people of 'two worlds' and confusion and frustration result from these conflicting ideas. It is for this reason that the home and the school should mutually seek advice and inquire on what is not properly understood or clear as to the proper upbringing of these children. The children should be made to understand that the home is in the school and vice versa. Neither of the two should be made a refuge from the rigours of the training of the other. When this happens well behaved, responsible and good citizens are bred. Written by Adewumi Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. What Is Discipline Essay Do you really understand what it means to 'discipline' someone? How do you define discipline? Does it mean helping someone get on the right track or is it about casting judgment or punishing a person for doing something wrong? Certainly discipline is misunderstood. In this article I want to give you a view of discipline that you may not have thought of and explain how to implement it with your team. Observations about discipline: Avoiding confrontation – Many people don't like to discipline their employees because they view it as a form of confrontation which may lead to conflict. The process begins with simple communication and then builds in intensity of action and involvement by the manager until the person acquires the targeted skill or finds a new job. These progressive stages are designed to help the employee develop into an effective team member. They are not designed to judge or punish an employee. The manager must exercise compassion and interest in the welfare of the individual. 1. Communicate – It's imperative that an employee understands completely what is expected of him. What are his responsibilities and goals? How are they to be carried out? In what time frame must they be completed? How will their performance be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Foucault's Discipline and Punish Essay Crime is inevitable in society, whether it be in traditional societies or in modern society. However, with an action, there are always has to be a consequence, however when breaking the law, the consequences are rather bad, and sometimes harsh. This is called punishment. Discipline is enforcing acceptable patterns of behaviour and teaching obedience. In an excerpt called Discipline and Punish, contemporary theorist Michael Foucault explains these two concepts. This paper will summarize the author's main points; provide a comparison with a theorist previously lectured on in class, as well as a personal interpretation of Foucault's arguments. As probably studied in any law or history class, punishment in medieval times consisted of ...show more content... Prison is an important place, because it takes away the power from individuals. This means that the criminal is no longer acting upon his will, but that of the officers, judge, guards, etc. "They are the foundation of society, and an element in its equilibrium." (215) All the techniques, when created, they "attained a level at which formation of knowledge and the increase of power regularly reinforce the other." (216) This part of the paper will provide a comparison with a theorist previously discussed in a lecture. The theorist with whom Michael Foucault's arguments will be compared to is Emile Durkheim. Durkheim sees crime as functional. He says that if there was no crime, all our values would be dispersed––these values are laws. These laws are observed by sanctions and punishments attached to it. However, in order for these laws to exist, there must be a punishment, thus, for there to be a punishment, there has to be crime. Repressive law, according to this classical theorist was based on punishing for the evil doing of the criminal through revenge. Durkheim believes that a crime is not collective and when one goes against the core values of society, one threatens the entire order of society. Therefore, this theorist would agree with Foucault that when disciplining a criminal, he or she should be stripped of their freedom and when Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Essay On School Discipline The morning routine of the high school boy in the 60s was to wake up, prepare for the day, eat breakfast, and then leave for school. His morning may sound familiar to many high school students today and his school–day along with student life has its similarities and differences to high school students now. After about 57 years, many changes have taken place in school having to do with disciplinary actions, daily life, and the trends. Students throughout the year have altered the school disciplinary measures. Disciplinary actions are handled differently throughout the years. During my grandfather, Bob Bateman's, high school career, different, more memorable discipline was used. For example, in Bob's shop class, "...a student repeatedly would throw erasers into one of the furnaces...", and the teacher's action was to heat up a metal rod and poke the student with the rod. This is an austere form of discipline, and is incredibly different from today. During Jan, my grandfather's wife's time as a student, she dealt with a teacher who threw a desk with a student sitting in it onto the floor. Thankfully, teachers today are not violent, as opposed to my grandfather and Jan's teachers. As a result of the constantly changing world, generational mindsets have been affected by major events. For example, Bob was a senior when he was chosen in the draft lottery. Since his stress of being drafted was so large at the time, he still remembers his number, 270. • 9. Essay on the Importance of Discipline Discipline is the process of training oneself in obedience, self control, skill, etc. The controlled, ordered behavior results from such training. Discipline is the basis of the whole universe. The solar system is governed by certain laws to maintain perfect harmony and beauty. Without this order, there would be utter chaos. Discipline is a basic requirement of a civilized society. Citizens of a disciplined nation work with a spirit of cooperation and unity. Aristotle has rightly said, "Discipline is obedience to rules formed by the society for the good of all. Discipline should be inculcated from a very young age. Talent and genius alone are not enough to achieve success. Discipline has an equally important role to play. Talents blossom...show more content... Eve–teasing is another example of irresponsible behavior on the part of our youth. The rising crime graph in the country is due to the lack of discipline. Members of political parties should follow a certain code of ethics. They should always act in a disciplined manner. In the past, leaders fought for freedom and now our leaders have the freedom to fight among themselves. The direct telecast of Parliamentary Session in doordarshan gives us the picture of the unruly behavior of our respected Parliamentarians inside the Parliament. The common man has started losing faith in political parties and the system. Steps should be taken to improve its image. Without discipline there can be no scientific advances, no industrial or technological achievement, no settled system of law, no exploration and no development. Discipline is essential for personal growth and national prosperity. Absence of it can lead to failure, defeat and backwardness. Respect of parents, teachers and elders should be given importance. Honesty and integrity and doing a duty with devotion and dedication should be stressed. There should be a spirit of harmony, co–operation and mutual respect co–existent among fellow human beings. All should follow the rules and regulations laid by law. Discipline means full realization of the sense of responsibility. This will bring progress and prosperity in the society and the nation. A proper and reasonable balance has to be stuck betweenliberty Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Discipline Paper Legal risks have become increasingly criminalized, with investigations and prosecutions today directed at corporate directors and officers individually, as companies under investigation choose to "cooperate" with law enforcement (Wing, & Oringer, 2015). Discipline is a form of training that enforces organizational rules. Discipline in the organization sets the tone for self–control, dedication, and orderly conduct. Discipline from a HR viewpoint is the punishment of employees. For example, if a manager has complaints about the tardiness of an employee to the HR, the HR manager calls the employee to their office and gives them a verbal warning about their tardiness. In a wide sense employee conflict can refer to any clash in the workplace. It can be between the employee and the employer, or between the employee and other employees. It is important to deal with employee conflict in a timely manner to maintain a healthy work environment. It is important to resolve employee conflicts because if these are not dealt with appropriately it can lead to larger issues which may become uncontrollable. Managers and supervisors have a key responsibility to ensure that workplace conflicts are resolved. Employees who have complaints about co–workers should be advised in the employee hand book to try to work out their differences directly with those co–workers before asking a supervisor or a manager to step in and resolve. For example, I have an issue with associates taking my reports off of the printer when it clearly has my name on it. • 11. Essay on Classroom Management Discipline Classroom Management & Discipline Emily Rickertsen EIS 450G: Classroom Management Dr. Georg Gunzenhauser Fall 2014 Classroom Management Related to Discipline Teacher–Student Relationship Student–teacher relationship is a vital role in managing a classroom and discipline. As a teacher, being able to connect with students is a key to academic instructional success; students are more likely to show respect to a teacher if that teacher has a connection with the students. Every teacher is bound to encounter a time when discipline must be used in some way. How is this discipline going to affect the student–teacher relationship? Jong, Mainhard, Tartwijk, Veldman, Verloop, & Wubbels (2013) explored how student –teachers...show more content... This consists of posting, no more than four rules in the classroom and having a list of 6 consequences that build upon one another, beginning with a warning, followed by writing the student's name on the board, and ending with having a parent come to the school for a parent–teacher conference (Logan, 2003). That discipline technique was aimed at middle and high school students; the author also suggests a similar technique for elementary age students. "Watch the Signs!" is a discipline program that utilized color–coded paper for each student to signal the students behavior: green= satisfactory, blue= needs to improve, yellow=needs to improve, red= unsatisfactory (Logan, 2003, p. 16–17). Each color, with the exception of green, also has a repercussion ranging from a 10 minute time–out to a phone call to a parent to an out of classroom timeout (Logan, 2003). A large part of having an effective classroom and discipline program is communicating the classroom expectation early and clearly. Along with the expectations, communicating the consequences for misbehavior to all students. By having clear consequences for students, there is no question that by doing behavior X, the student will be held accountable and be disciplined by consequence Y. I agree with the framework that Logan did with the discipline programs in this article. • 12. Discipline Discipline Discipline is the process of teaching the child what type of behavior is acceptable and what type is not acceptable, it teaches a child to follow rules. Discipline may involve both punishment, such as a time out, and, more importantly, rewards. It sounds so straightforward, yet every parent becomes frustrated at one time or another with issues surrounding children and discipline. Every parent wants their children to be happy, respectful, respected by others, and able to find their place in the world as well–behaved adults. Nobody wants to be accused of raising a spoiled brat. Our responsibility as a parent is to help our child become self–reliant, respectful, and self–controlled. Relatives, schools, churches, therapists,...show more content... But our goal should not be to turn him into someone he is not. As my children grew and began to understand the connection between actions and consequences, I started communicating the rules of our family's home, explained what I expect of them. Even when disciplining my children I show respect – they are more likely to respect me, other family members, and other people in their life. If I "lose it" or overreact with disrespect, I apologize. Actually I behave the way I want them to behave. For instance, the first time my 3–year–old son used pencil to decorate the bedroom wall, I discussed why that's not allowed and what will happen if he will do it again – he will have to help clean the wall and will not be able to use the pencils for the rest of the day. I explained also that pencils are for paper only and not for wall. In other words I establish this kind of "I set the rules and you're expected to listen or accept the consequences" standard. Consistency is the key to effective discipline, and it's important to decide what the rules are and then uphold them. Timeouts also can work well for kids at this age, however I didn't give them timeouts. I always reward good behaviors. I know how positive effect my praise can have – discipline is not just about punishment but also about recognizing good behavior. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay On Classroom Discipline Classroom Discipline Preschool aged children can be headstrong and persistent to do what they want to do. It will be important for me as a teacher to have a plan in place for classroom discipline and management before I begin teaching. That does not mean that my plan of action might not change, however, feeling confident about my approach will help in the implementation. Different approaches will have to be taken with different students for both discipline and classroom management techniques, however, working with administrators, other teachers, and the parents will strengthen the support for positive behavior in the classroom. The first and most important thing that must happen within the classroom and with parents is to build a ...show more content... While classroom management can be enough for some students to promote positive behaviors and minimize misbehaving, I must still have high expectations of behavior from students. I must have in place and implement other procedures to ensure that students continue to develop the good behaviors for learning. I will not only been seen looking, I will be verbal about looking for positive behaviors and students making good choices. I will be sure to reward students to good choices and good behavior in a very public way as well, either through a stamp or another reward that can be traded in for treasures. In most instances I will plan to use the least dramatic and invasive redirection as possible. Either by walking to students who are being loud, using a single word that is predetermined, or even to give quiet positive praise to students, I will be sure to use the correct tone to match the task at hand. Consequences of negative and disruptive behavior, along with poor choices, must be enforceable and consistent for students if they are to be successful in aiding with classroom discipline. Using a behavior system where students have a chance to correct the behavior, such as moving your color, will give them a chance to reflect and make better choices. I will have to be quick with the consequences and not take them personally, as this will only make things worse. I will have to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Grievance and disciplinary Critically explain the key skills required to prepare, conduct and conclude grievance and disciplinary cases effectively (40%) Discipline and grievance are often put together, however, 'most organisations try to keep discipline and grievance apart, therefore to distinguish the idea that there are a number of conceptual and practical differences between discipline and grievance' (Dundon and Rollinson, 2011). Discipline is defined as 'some action taken against an individual who fails to conform to the rules of an organisation of which he or she is a member', (Wheeler, 1976, as cited by Dundon and Rollinson, 2011). The grievance procedure can be defined in many ways, the International Labour Organisation defines grievance as follows,...show more content... When preparing for a grievance meeting, managers should arrange a meeting in private, consider having someone that is not involved in the case to take notes, consider any special requirements for the employee if they have difficulty conversing in English, or is perhaps disabled and consider whether to offer independent mediation. When conducting the grievance meeting, managers are expected to make introductions as necessary, give the employee an opportunity to restate their grievance and how they wish for it to be solved, put care and thought into resolving the grievance, consider adjourning the meeting if it is necessary to investigate any new facts which arise and sum up the main points from the meeting (ACAS, 2015). When concluding the meeting, it is important for the manager to keep the employee in the know by informing them on when they can expect a response if one cannot be made immediately (ACAS, 2015). Disciplinary procedures follow a similar process to grievance procedures although they are not exactly the same. For example, employers should talk to the employee in private if they feel the employee is not performing to expected standards. The discussion should be encouraging performance and any criticism should most definitely be constructive in order to keep the rapport intact. The manager should make it clear to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay On Discipline Discipline According to Sailor (2010), "Discipline comes from the Latin word disciplina, meaning instruction or teaching to correct, strengthen, or perfect." The article talks about discipline and punishment in the education system, whereas parents and some teachers view discipline as a punishment while educators view it as a teaching strategy that can exclude punishment. As it stated by Hogan (2012), "True discipline, however, comes from within the child." Therefore, parents and teachers are aware that discipline is not through punishment, but through (1) guidance and teaching, (2) experiencing freedom, and (3) experiencing the natural consequences to his actions. Guidance and Teaching In the education system of American Samoa, the law has been published for teachers to view in terms of discipline when it comes in the classroom. Child Trends and...show more content... There is no freedom when discipline is there, especially with the fact that physical discipline is strongly used by the Samoan teachers. Samoan students are afraid to do anything on their own because they have to obey what the teacher said. Hogan (2012) stated that, "This level of discipline cannot be achieved through commands and orders, but through experiencing freedom." The students have to experience freedom in order for them to learn how to behave instead of punishment that can lead to something else such as death or violence in the classroom. The importance of freedom in the classroom is that, students get to experience what is right and what is wrong on their own (will they do it again or not?), develop themselves physically, learning how to control themselves, and mentally and emotionally, as they practice to think of themselves. For example, instead of getting told to think about something in a certain time, the students can think as long as they want about the topic. Natural Get more content on HelpWriting.net

An accessible population for the study comprises of 225 managerial and supervisory staff randomly drawn from a purposely selected 15 manufacturing organizations operating within the six states of the South–south region of Nigeria. Using Kretche and Morgan sample determination table 225 respondents were drawn from a total population of 550 employees across the organisations. Standards of conduct must be maintained but they must be realistic so as to contribute to the proper functioning of the workplace. Rules governing insubordination, theft, vandalism, gambling on company premises, drinking on the job and taking drugs at work, are all related to productivity and the general wellbeing of an organization, (Eni, 2000). It is believed that the most unpleasant role of an organizational leader is to institute a disciplinary action to an erring employee (Franklin and Pagan, 2006). Although the goal is to modify the employees undesirable behaviors, their decisions are often subjected to opposing personal interpretations. Discipline entails a process of learning. One of the positive contributions which discipline can make in our lives is that it brings about knowledge that is cumulative; knowledge that maintains and knowledge that restructures society when applied. And there cannot be an end to learning because society does not operate in a state of static equilibrium but in a state of generativity in terms of idea Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Essay about Child Discipline Children in today's society seems to be more "out of control" than prior generations. Is this due to lack of discipline? For generations children were spanked, had their mouths smacked when back talking, or other various forms of discipline that today would be viewed as child abuse. With today's generation, when spanking, if a mark is left on that child for longer than 24 hours, it is considered child abuse. How did society, who once thought spanking was okay, go to not seeing eye to eye? Through many years of research, psychologist are beginning to see that spanking or being aggressive with children has long term effects on those children. What exactly is considered child discipline? It is the set of rules, rewards and punishments used...show more content... Dr. Thomas Phelan, a registered clinical psychologist has been working in the field for over 40 years. He has written numerous books that help parents learn key ways to discipline their children. His book series "1–2–3 Magic" is very popular and has helped millions of parents reach out and be able to help parents encourage positive behavior in their children without the use of spanking. Dr. Phelan talks about how to break the cycle so many parents use. The cycle he talks about is "Talk–Persuade–Argue–Yell–Hit." (Phelan 1) This cycle only teaches the child that it is okay to yell and hit. All too often we see children with tempers. Many times these tempers seem to stem from their home life. Parents use physical discipline/punishment to get through to their child and all that does is teach them that being aggressive and physical is okay. They end up getting into a scuff with another child at school and begin yelling and then hit the child. Some children have been known to be choked, even in pre–school. These are the cases where the child's behavior can easily be tied to the environment in which they live. Where else would they learn to become that aggressive? Aggressive behavior as a child leads to advanced aggression as an adolescent and causes juveniles to start causing problems within society. Studies have been done with different groups of parents. • 18. Essay On Self Discipline The self–discipline required to be an academically successful college student is at a much higher level than that of the required self–discipline of a high school student. Fortunately, I attended a private Catholic high school that prepares its students very well for college. The age gap between a senior in high school and a college freshman may only be a few months to a year, but the way they are treated is the comparison of a baby to an adult. College professors try very hard to instruct the students but they realize that it is up to the students to put in the efforts to achieve success. The student's amount of effort will determine how much is learned or how little is learned in a class. The atmosphere of high school is much...show more content... The students are on a very time oriented schedule. Schedules are the same each day and if a student does not make it to class on time or come at all, these mistakes are sometimes punishable. In college, if someone is late to classes or do not show up at all, the student misses out and grades will suffer. Professors more or less do not care if a student show up or not. In the end, not showing up only effects the student. If you fall behind in a class because you have poor attendance they consider it unfortunate and expect the student to find a way to catch up on work. Faculty will rarely tell students to come to class. The schedule may be different for each day of the week and a student is expected to be responsible enough to keep up with the schedule and all of the classwork. While in high school, the goal is to receive a general understanding of different subjects so when you enroll in college, you will be able to narrow down your interests. A college curriculum may differentiate greatly from a high school curriculum. When in college, most students have a general understanding of what they might like to focus on as a potential career so their courses reflect that. Some college students might have absolutely no idea what they want to do, but that is okay. In high school, all students take similar general classes like English, math, history, and science. Of course, there are always different variations of classes that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Discipline Research Paper Punishment, training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character and control gained by enforcing obedience or order can all be used to define the word "discipline". If I could define it in my own words, I would say that "discipline" is something you need to learn or be taught when you need to correct disobedience. Perhaps even your own disobedience, which would then change the word to self–discipline. Discipline is a concept that is absolutely essential to your character. In my essay, I will talk about how it helps ourselves and others, how it correlates with the religion Islam, and some things that you can do to learn and practice discipline. Discipline helps us ethically, morally, economically, and also...show more content... If there was no discipline, people would do whatever they wanted and make terrible mistakes without putting the consideration of others first and foremost. Lack of discipline means lack of self–restraint and control. The result of that is not only harmful but catastrophic. It will make it difficult for you to differentiate right from wrong and see the long–term effects of your actions. If you put your mind to it, you can learn to develop discipline and prevent these harmful thing from happening. Now what does the religion Islam say about discipline? Well, according to Al–Islam.com, discipline and control in Islam is not equal to dictatorship. For example, good parents take into consideration the age and understanding of the child, his or her circumstances, and other relative factors. Rules are then made accordingly. Important points are also stated such as: when disciplining a child, the parent should refrain from becoming a dictator. A rule is not to be followed because "I say so" but because it is the right thing to do. Also another important point that stood out to me was to be in control of yourself when you are disciplining or being disciplined and when a mistake has been made, to let the person make amends. This is a part of Islam. Forgiveness. Islam is not about having anger in our hearts, it is about peace. If you are practicing the religion Islam, you have to also strive to be a good Muslim. Am I a good Muslim? No. Do I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
