The War of 1812 was a war fought between the United States and Great Britain. Participants in the War of 1812 also included Canada, Ireland, and
Native Americans. Most Native Americans sided with the British, believing that if the British won the war, that Americans would stop expanding west
and encroaching on Native American land. Two brothers, Tecumseh and Tenskatawa, also known as the Prophet, fought for the British and lead Native

Once war was declared, the United States set its sights on the nearest British colony, Canada, with hefty optimism of victory. The Canadians were
well prepared and the Americans were not, and the American defeat was humiliating. The American attackers were forced to retrograde back south
and eventually were overtaken by the Canadians at Detroit without a single shot being fired. In the Battle of Thames, Detroit was successfully
retaken and Tecumseh was killed. At first the Americans were winning the battles against Britain at sea, but in April 1814, Napoleon was defeated

Bay and capture Washington, D.C. British troops then moved to take Baltimore and failed. The British Navy bombarded Baltimore with canon fire

In fact, during the European embargoes, thousands of American sailors were forcibly impressed by the British because Royal Navy life was so awful
and unrewarding it caused British men to desert their own country en masse for the better–paying, better quality life of American maritime. In response
to the Chesapeake affair, Jefferson, U.S. president at the time, made the Embargo Act which prevented Americans from trading with any ports outside
the United States. The act really hurt American economics and trade and created such uproar in people that it was soon replaced with a more sensible
act. The Non–Intercourse act forbade American trade with Britain, France and their colonial allies until their own embargoes were dissolved.
While impressments and embargoes were in flux, a growing number of Republicans grew deeply upset over the neutrality of Jefferson and Madison.
The War Hawks, as they were called, were utterly infuriated that the British were apparently allowed to continue to violate American maritime. James
Madison, president at this time, announced that unless Great Britain revoked its embargoes, the U.S. would have an embargo against them beginning
