Examples Of Joy In A Christmas Carol
In the classic novel, A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens the theme is true joy of the heart stems from the virtue of charity. This true sense
of joy is displayed in Scrooge's nephew Fred when he reflects upon the Christmas season as being "'a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time...when
men and women seem by one consent to open their shut–up hearts freely, and to think of people below them...though it has never put a scrap of gold or
silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good...'"1 It is notable that Fred understands the essence of Christmas–time when
mankind embraces the charity in one's heart and shares this benevolence and goodwill with one another. An equivalent portrayal of joy is shown

With each Ghost's tale functioning as a moral story, Dickens demonstrates the Christian moral ideals associated with Christmas such as; generosity,
kindness, and a universal love for your community which follows the same moral landscape of Victorian England in general. The novel focuses more
on a modern view of Christmas that is less concerned with religious ceremony and emphasizes more on joyous traditions like the sharing of gifts,
festive celebrations, exhibitions of prosperity. The idea that Scrooge becomes one who gives away his wealth is very Christian. Scrooge recognizes
something larger than what is temporal and in this, he embraces the Christmas spirit of the day. I think that one aspect of Victorian society that Dickens

Redemption In A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol presents to the reader the transformation of an egotistic, miserable man, named Ebenezer Scrooge, to a
compassionate and merrier elderly who finds the true perception of Christmas. Good afternoon, my name is Hayley Harris–Organ; I am here before
you to address the importance of studying the humorous yet stern approach to Scrooge's plight in the novella A Christmas Carol. This short novel
acknowledges the threat of holding a selfish life. The author makes a clear reference to greed, cost on fate and redemption in the text.
Dickens has accredited greed in the course of his novel and discusses Scrooge as a "covetous old sinner." Scrooge believed that poverty could be
avoided by hard–work and claims that the prisons...show more content...
He expresses change and vows to become a better person. Pg. 116 "He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good
old city knew... Some people laughed to see the alternation in him, but he let them laugh... His own heart laughed; and that was quite enough for
him." The technique used is repetition to emphasize Scrooge's transformation. Scrooge repents selfishness of his way of life and devotes to have a
charitable heart and live his life fulfilled with joy and surrounded by people. Page 110 shows an example of personification, "I will honour Christmas in
my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the past, the present and the future. The spirits of all Three shall strive within me." Scrooge
repents the selfish life he once invested in when he realised that being a miser caused him to miss out on the most important and pleasurable part of
living.
A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens is a compelling tale of greed, love and charity. Studying this short novel at school is necessary because it
concedes the threats of holding and leading a selfish life and how acting greedy is notorious on your fate and your perspective of life. Through his
representation of Scrooge, Dickens wants the reader to learn from his miserable personality and encourages others

Character Transformation Essay
Characterization is the concept of creating characters. Many authors throughout time include dramatic transformations for their characters in their
literature. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens brilliantly employs characterization within the characterEbenezer Scrooge, who experiences a truly
powerful and life–changing transformation, from a horrid person to one with great ebullience for life. In Stave 1, Dickens establishes Scrooge's
character as an extremely avaricious person who doesn't encourage the notion of joy. To illustrate, "'If I could work my will,' Scrooge said indignantly,
'every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his
heart.'" (Dickens, 5) In the beginning of the novel, Scrooge had been adamantly disagreeable as to whether or not Christmas was a joyful...show more

Scrooge persists and persists that he will improve his behavior in this piece of text, "'I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been
bit for this intercourse.'" At seeing the Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, the clearly frightened Ebenezer decides to change his personality
once and for all; as well as developing a love for Christmas. Even kind–hearted Cratchit was frightened of Scrooge's change in behavior when Scrooge
said, "'I am about to raise your salary!' Bob trembled, and got a little nearer to the ruler. He had a momentary idea of knocking Scrooge down...'"
(Dickens, 121) It is such a dramatic change in Scrooge's personality that Cratchit grabbed himself a weapon in horror, however at the end of their
amusing conversation Cratchit is much more fond of Ebenezer when in juxtaposed to the beginning of the story. Scrooge is evidently a different man
at the end of the novel, where instead of being a rapacious old man, he becomes a cheerful and benevolent

A Christmas Carol Essay
The topic of this essay made me start to brainstorm about all the books I have read throughout middle school and high school and which books
have impacted me. I wanted to pick a piece that actually had a meaning in my life and not just a book that I was forced to read. Out of all the pieces
that I have read I wanted to pick one that affected my life in some way. With that said, I decided to write aboutA Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I
first read A Christmas Carol when I was younger but when I really got into the book was in 7th grade. A Christmas Carol was published on
December 19, 1843 by Chapman and Hall in London. A Christmas Carol showed me that the choices I make affect me the others around me in more
ways than what is happening in that moment, it can affect everyone in the past, present, and the future. It has impacted my life in this way, by how I
write and how it makes me think of the past, present, and future while I am writing an essay.
In the book "A Christmas Carol" the protagonist known as Ebenezer Scrooge was very well known throughout the whole plotline. Ebenezer Scrooge
was mostly known for being old and grumpy. In the middle of the novel Scrooge is approached by three ghosts, past, present, and future on Christmas
eve. The first time he gets unexpectedly visited by the ghosts he runs into an old friend who was also his old business partner whose name was
Marley. Marley was just warning Scrooge that he will run into three more ghosts in the next few

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
In the book ' A Christmas Carol', Dickens describes the poor, how they were treated unfairly and how they were thought as animals rather than human
beings. Dickens portrays the rich as ignorant and selfish people that think they are bigger than the world itself. Charles Dickens new a lot about poverty,
as his parents were not earning enough money to pay of debts, which meant that Dickens himself had to leave school at the age of 12 to work in a
factory. He had a terrible experience; he had felt what it was like to be poor, to have no hope for the future and worked long hours in a dirty factory.

He sees his lack of providing for the family has caused the death–to–be for Tiny
Tim, as he has done nothing to stop it, therefore he is part responsible. Seeing how the Cratchit's live makes Scrooge realize that he has caused
poverty and that he is also the reason Tiny Tim could die. Scrooge reluctantly allows his clerk,Bob Cratchit, to take the Christmas day as a paid holiday.
For Scrooge the idea of paying a man not to work seems an insult, and Christmas represents nothing but an "excuse for picking a man's pocket every
twenty–fifth of
December." In the first stave, Bob Cratchit asked to have Christmas day off and Scrooge wasn't too pleased with the idea but compromised and said, '
but I suppose you must have the whole day. Be here all the earlier next morning.'
Scrooge has a young nephew called Fred who was introduced into the novel in a joyful manner, which was soon changed by Scrooge. Fred was
extremely merry as it was Christmas and tried to share his joy with his uncle, but did not happen, 'A merry Christmas, uncle!' scrooge replied. '
Bah! Humbug!' Scrooge wonders how someone so poor, Fred, could be so happy, ' what reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough.' Scrooge
and Fred were both at it, but Fred did not get angry once and still wished Scrooge a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
As soon as Fred left, two 'portly gentlemen' walked in. These two men were charity workers that go around the town

Each ghost marks an important step in Scrooge's journey towards being a better person. Explain
In Dickens five stave novella each ghost in A Christmas Carol contributes to the final redemption of his journey to becoming a better person. The ghosts
take Scrooge on a journey, physically, taking him to visit important aspects of his past, present and future and these journeys metaphorically empathy

The ghost then takes Scrooge to his boarding school where he is greeted by his much younger sister Fan expressing how excited she is to spend
Christmas all together as a family. "Scrooge seemed uneasy in his mind;" It is here that Scrooge begins to regret the way he treats Fans only son,
Scrooges only nephew and become remorseful for rejecting him from his life. We then are introduced to Scrooges old place of work where he was
apprenticed by Old Fezziwig. Scrooge is reminded of the way he was treated by his employer. He was respected and was respectful towards him, and
the example of Old Fezziwig demonstrates how Scrooge is the exact opposite. This was an example of what a good employer can be, and he wishes
to speak to his clerk. "He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome;" It is now Scrooge begins to
understand that he has been making his clerk, Bob Cratchit's life a misery. The ghost of Christmas past has covered three main aspects of Scrooges
past, but the final one is his past relationship with Belle, who he lost because he changed his nature and became more interested in gaining money
instead of appreciating what he had. To emphasize the regret Scrooge should feel, the ghost takes him to Belles new home and family, which shakes
Scrooge the most because it is what Scrooge missed out on. "When he thought that such another

A Christmas Carol Essay
A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. Life for the lower class during this time was extremely hard because of enormous
amounts of illnesses, young children worked and no education. A Christmas Carol was set in mid 19th century, during this time people had a
really bad time; most of the people was unemployed and the people who were employed were paid deficiently, others were seasonal or casual,
which meant they were when work was available so most of the families lived in poverty which means that they didn't have access to nice food and
clothes and children were also used for the family income so the children had to work in work houses. In contrast the rich people had access to
doctors, plenty of food and didn't have to...show more content...
The novel is written in first person. The narrator uses self referencing, "Mind! I don't mean to say that I know my own knowledge." This shows that
the narrator is referencing to him. Dickens uses 1st person narrator to persuade the reader that the moral message is relevant so that the reader creates
a relationship with the narrator and trusts the information provided. The phrase "Dead as a doornail" is a simile. Dickens uses this phrase at the
beginning of the story to get the reader interested in the story and makes them want to read on. Dickens uses colloquialisms to communicate to the
reader to make the narrator honest so that the reader believes what he says, so that the reader positions the reader to accept the extraordinary events that
follow. Dickens uses non–finite verbs to show how evil scrooge is and how he lends money and sets the interest rates, and then he fights to get every

Stave 1 – Isolation Isolation is the main theme of this stave. In this stave, it talks a lot about Scrooge isolating himself from society, and choosing
to be alone and miserable . In this particular stave, Christmas is rounding the corner, and this setting is causing Scrooge to be even grouchy and
irritable than ever. Dickens makes it very clear in his writing that during the holiday's is when Scrooge is isolating himself from other people, and
staying in his own personal world. On page three, it is written that no one ever came to make conversation with him, no children, no man or woman,
not even beggars asked anything of him! The one reason this continued on in his social life, was the fact that he absolutely did not have a care in the

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this extract we are presented with Scrooge. From the beginning Scrooge is presented as a miser. In the
extract we find out that he is an old, rude and ignorant man that doesn't appreciate others around him. Dickens uses different language techniques to
describe Scrooges appearance as clear as possible. In the opening paragraph Dickens uses imagery to create a vivid impression of Scrooge. He is
described as 'a tight–fisted hand at the grind–stone', and this metaphor suggests that Scrooge works hard for his money but is very tight with his
money. In the opening lines Dickens includes similes. 'Hard and sharp as a flint.' Flint is a hard stone that was used with iron to create sparks before

Dickens has used verbs used as adjectives when describing Scrooge such as 'stiffened his gait'. The effect of these words makes the reader focus
on it more and because it's a long list the reader gets a clear definition of what Scrooge looks like. The adjectives that Dickens uses aren't describing
him as being a nice person, from these adjectives you can tell that he is an old and miserable character. Dickens focuses on temperature, when
doing this he emphasises how cold hearted Scrooge really is. 'No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could cool him.' This shows the reader
that Scrooge is as cold as he could ever be and nothing can change him. Dickens also uses a pathetic fallacy, he uses the weather to describe
Scrooges character. 'The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect.' Dickens uses the
harshest weather to describe him, showing the reader how horrible of a man Scrooge is, using a pathetic fallacy clearly shows the reader how
important Scrooges personality is throughout the book. From this extract the reader knows that Scrooge is a negative character. Straight away we
know that he has a negative impact on others. 'Nobody ever stopped him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, "My dear Scrooge, how are you?"'
This dialogue never actually happened, this shows that the other characters in the book are too afraid to acknowledge

Theme Of Redemption In A Christmas Carol
The study of redemption in terms of Christianity is of high value and noteworthy. Dicken's A Christmas Carol is of the finest and to some extent is
the greatest work of redemption. It is the play that is closely related to the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Ebenzer Scrooge, a
more interesting character that has become synonymous with an angry mood and excessive thriftiness during the holiday season, is a man of
redeeming qualities. With AChristmas Carol, Dickens tries to manipulate how self–serving, insensitive people can be converted into charitable, devoted
and socially conscious members of society by quasi–religious lessons.More or less or by default Ebenezer Scrooge redeems his soul by becoming the

Manifestation of self through several past experiences by each Ghost has projected Scrooge to get rid out of his damnation. Dickens Carol is highly
corroborative in terms of the true sense of its meaning. Memory helps Scrooge to remind other people with which he was really connected before his
self damnation. Empathy enables Scrooge to sympathize with and understand those having less fortunate than himself like Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit
and highlights the message of love and sympathy and devotion for one's own community. The world becomes a better place almost immediately
following Scrooge's conversion. In fact, the story implies that a renewed connection to humanity is, in fact, the very essence of redemption. Though the
Christmas setting invites a traditional Christian interpretation of Scrooge's redemption, his change is rooted not in a commitment to deeper spirituality
or orthodoxy but in an authentic connection to and investment in the lives of other human beings. Overwhelmed with joy by the chance to save
himself and grateful that at least he has been returned to Christmas day, Scrooge came out

In the story of A Christmas Carol Marley started out dead as a doornail and like normal Scrooge is an old bitter, greedy man who hates Christmas,
feelings, love and happiness. People around him think that Scrooge is a pain and an unfriendly person to be around during the holidays. He always
acted like an old sinner who doesn't like anything. Nevertheless Scrooge is a tight fisted hand at the grindstone! Nobody really liked him because he
never made friends and never really interacted with anyone. Scrooge has thin legs, a pointed nose and a cracked voice. In the first stave Marley came
to Scrooge and told him what was yet to come and how he was always beside him watching him do things. Once Marley vanished Scrooge went to bed
not thinking about the first spirit. The clock went faster than normal and Scrooge wondered why and started to freak out and soon the first spirit
appeared. When the spirit came, she said "I'm The Ghost of Christmas Past." Scrooge was frightened and blinded by the light from the spirit. In the
past of Scrooge were so many memories that mattered to him. Some of those memories that Scrooge had were great and many of them were not and
but that's what gave Scrooge feelings. According to the text Scrooge sobbed when he saw some of the memories. So that must mean that he smiled

A Christmas Carol Analysis Essay
Every year at Christmas, people who celebrate the holiday place emphasis on giving to those less fortunate than them and spending money on
family and friends. The exception to that would be Ebenezer Scrooge, that is, before he was visited by three spirits. This past month, I read the
book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. For this analytical essay, I chose to write about a character from the novel and how the character has
evolved from the start of the novel to the end. Ebenezer Scrooge, the protagonist of A Christmas Carol, has evolved throughout the story in that in the
beginning, he despises Christmas, loves money, and turns people away from him; in the middle, when the three spirits come to him, he begins to
repent his attitude and ways; and, in the end of the novel, he has fully changed and enjoys the Christmas holiday and gives to others. At the start of A
Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge despises Christmas, loves money, and turns people away from him. An example of Scrooge's despising Christmas,
as well as his loving money, is when his nephew visits the counting–house on Christmas Eve to wish Scrooge a Merry Christmas, and the two men get
into an argument about their clashing opinions on Christmas. "'Come, then,' returned the nephew, gayly. 'What right have you to be dismal? What
reason have you to be morose? You're rich enough.' Scrooge, having no better answer ready on the spur of the moment, said, 'Bah! again; and
followed it up with 'Humbug.' 'Don't be cross, uncle,' said the nephew. 'What else can I be,' returned the uncle, 'when I live in such a world of fools
as this? Merry Christmas! Out upon merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding
yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in 'em through a round dozen of months
presented dead against you? If I could work my will,' said Scrooge, indignantly, 'every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas,' on his lips,
should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!" (Dickens, 5–6). This quote shows that Scrooge
believes Christmas is a nuisance in that, despite being

A Christmas Carol'
Topic: 'Charles Dickens presents a warning to society through his novella 'A Christmas Carol'. Discuss.
Fictional stories, although based upon make–believe tales, can often expose the truth behind an author's personal views and ideals, as well as act as
powerful tools to present social messages and warnings to readers across many generations. 'A Christmas Carol', written by Charles Dickens, is a
novella in which social inequality is highlighted through the journey of a notorious miser during the Victorian era in Britain. Throughout this morality
tale, Dickens presents a warning to society through his 'social commentary' which centres on how society has become too self–absorbed and greedy in
their ways. Dickens warns...show more content...
Throughout the last stave, Scrooge is portrayed as a 'changed man', shown through his many acts of kindness and love as well as his changed attitude
towards poverty and prosperity. "He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good
old city, town or borough, in the good old world." This statement encapsulates the stark contrast between Scrooge's character in the first stave when
compared to the last. It can even be said that the last stave is written in a symmetrical manner to that of the first. This is made obvious through the
stark opposites that can be seen in Scrooge's personality in the first stave when compared to the last; where he used to be greedy and self–absorbed, he
became selfless and compassionate. Dickens uses this example of symmetry to make Scrooge's transformation even more discernible to readers as to
allow them to note just how a model citizen should act towards others.
Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' presents a warning to society through the representation of characters and the journey and transformation of the notorious
miser, Ebenezer Scrooge. Dickens warns society of the grim future that awaits humanity if people fail to respond to the plight of the poor. Finally, if
Dickens intentions weren't made clear enough through these examples, his preface says it all. "I have endeavoured in this ghostly little book, to raise
the ghost of an idea...May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and

Do you ever feel like people change? In A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens, Scrooge is a grouchy, unsocial, miserly, uncharitable old man.
He is extremely unsympathetic and bah humbugs everything to do with Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is magically visited by 3 ghosts. The
ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Scrooge has a rude awakening of haunting memories he holds onto. These memories make him
feeling as if he needs a second chance and a fresh start at life. What better day than Christmas to tidy the dreaded past. The mysterious ghosts bring
him to the past, present and future in one night. Scrooge had remarkable experiences and felt emotions he had never thought were possible to feel
again. Scrooge longed for a new future because of these experiences. Therefore, I believe that Scrooge changed in the play because of the ghostly
visits, his aching heart for Tiny Tim and the relief that he could have a second chance at life. The ghost of Christmas past brought Scrooge to the
past and reminisced. Scrooge began to see what a lovely and good hearted human he used to be. Scrooge could not bare to look at the flashbacks
because he became disgraced of himself. Scrooge began to blame the ghost of Christmas past for making him feel so incredibly mortified. Secondly, the
ghost of Christmas present and Scrooge set forth to the Cratchit's home. As Scrooge looks in on the Cratchit's Christmas Eve supper, he realizes how

A Christmas Carol
In a Christmas Carol, Dickens uses some of his past childhood experiences to show us that Christmas is very important and many messages come
across in this book. It is split up into five 'staves.'
The reason that they are staves instead of chapters as staves are used in music and it is called a Christmas 'carol.'
In most cases, when people hear the word 'Christmas', we think of a time for giving and sharing with people less fortunate, a time for being thankful
for everything we have no matter how little or how big, a chance to spend time with the people we love, joking, laughing and smiling. Generally a
good time is had by all. Possibly the only exception is Scrooge. Scrooge is a cruel, cold, heartless,...show more content...
This book proves that money is not everything because even though
Scrooge was so rich, he was probably the most unhappy person every
Christmas until he changed.
Dickens describes Scrooge in a way which makes us feel complete antipathy towards him. I think he wanted us to feel such strong feelings against
Scrooge partly because of Dickens's childhood.
Dickens had a tough childhood with not much money and yet he still enjoyed Christmas as a youth. Dickens's father was taken into jail when
Charles was just twelve because the family was in so much debt and Charles had to work for a year, it is believed, to support the family. Here is
Scrooge with no problems, enough money to make
Christmas happy for many people, and he is not doing it. All the way through the first Stave, Dickens gradually, but surely, paints a picture in our
minds of Scrooge, and it is not a good one!
The first main description of him is a set of adjectives. It describes him as being a 'squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old
sinner!' This list is enormous and it gives the impression that the negative comments that could be made about Scrooge are almost endless. It is
effective as it makes us feel tired from reading all those descriptions. It sticks in our head because how could we forget all those remarks made about
him?

Lots of people take great pleasure in listening or telling ghost stories. People enjoy this because it gives them a chance to tell people maybe some of
their own experiences, stories or their ideas.
Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It is also a good way of socialising as you are talking to people and sharing
experiences that people may find extremely interesting, resulting in them thinking you are very intellectual, as telling stories can be more in depth than
just having a conversation.
The usual setting for a ghost story is an image of darkness and fear, which is intended to bring across the image of fear on the reader and involve them

Dickens uses the power of contrasting to get the best possible results in the story, Dickens contrasts scrooge with gothic windows and cold, but then
turns to
Christmas and great fires this contrast can really give you a clear image of a street in which you have different sections and I get the feeling of
being closed in. This also happens again near the end of extract 3, in the lord mayors house lots of preparations are being made for Christmas and
you can see that a Christmas mood and essence is in the air, then in the next line you are suddenly withdrawn and swung into a world of misery with
the line "Foggier yet, and colder!
Piercing, searching, biting cold". This tells us that even though the weather is horrible the preparation for Christmas doesn't stop, as it is a time for joy.
Dickens also describes the weather in extract three when Scrooge is walking home, although this time he doesn't make the weather look as mean.
"The yard was so dark that even Scrooge, that knew its every stone, was fain to grope with his hands. The fog and frost so hung about the black old
gateway of the house, that it seemed as if the genius of weather sat in mournful meditation on the threshold".
Although the weather description doesn't look or sound exactly friendly I think it seems more relaxed. It is Christmas Eve and everybody is asleep,

A Christmas Carol Theme Essay
" Spirit, hear me. I am not he man I was. I will not be the man I have been for so many years. Why show me all of this if I am past all hope? Assure
me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me. Let the boy live! I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will
live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach." (Scrooge,
p.140). A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an important story as it has a meaningful theme of change, as the quotes states above. But that isn't the
only theme that this beautiful story shows us. Many different spirits encounter him to help him realize why Christmas is important (I'm pretty sure that
is the meaning of the spirits). When the first spirit of the past encounters him, he realizes what he has done, and regrets some of the things he did. The
second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit
came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn't care that he died. When we read A Christmas
Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives.
Everyone's past can have some bumps in the road that can result in misery, regret but also happiness. But it can also play an important role

Examples Of Joy In A Christmas Carol

  • 1. Examples Of Joy In A Christmas Carol In the classic novel, A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens the theme is true joy of the heart stems from the virtue of charity. This true sense of joy is displayed in Scrooge's nephew Fred when he reflects upon the Christmas season as being "'a kind, forgiving, charitable, pleasant time...when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut–up hearts freely, and to think of people below them...though it has never put a scrap of gold or silver in my pocket, I believe that it has done me good, and will do me good...'"1 It is notable that Fred understands the essence of Christmas–time when mankind embraces the charity in one's heart and shares this benevolence and goodwill with one another. An equivalent portrayal of joy is shown Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. A Christmas Carol With each Ghost's tale functioning as a moral story, Dickens demonstrates the Christian moral ideals associated with Christmas such as; generosity, kindness, and a universal love for your community which follows the same moral landscape of Victorian England in general. The novel focuses more on a modern view of Christmas that is less concerned with religious ceremony and emphasizes more on joyous traditions like the sharing of gifts, festive celebrations, exhibitions of prosperity. The idea that Scrooge becomes one who gives away his wealth is very Christian. Scrooge recognizes something larger than what is temporal and in this, he embraces the Christmas spirit of the day. I think that one aspect of Victorian society that Dickens criticizes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Redemption In A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol presents to the reader the transformation of an egotistic, miserable man, named Ebenezer Scrooge, to a compassionate and merrier elderly who finds the true perception of Christmas. Good afternoon, my name is Hayley Harris–Organ; I am here before you to address the importance of studying the humorous yet stern approach to Scrooge's plight in the novella A Christmas Carol. This short novel acknowledges the threat of holding a selfish life. The author makes a clear reference to greed, cost on fate and redemption in the text. Dickens has accredited greed in the course of his novel and discusses Scrooge as a "covetous old sinner." Scrooge believed that poverty could be avoided by hard–work and claims that the prisons...show more content... He expresses change and vows to become a better person. Pg. 116 "He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew... Some people laughed to see the alternation in him, but he let them laugh... His own heart laughed; and that was quite enough for him." The technique used is repetition to emphasize Scrooge's transformation. Scrooge repents selfishness of his way of life and devotes to have a charitable heart and live his life fulfilled with joy and surrounded by people. Page 110 shows an example of personification, "I will honour Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the past, the present and the future. The spirits of all Three shall strive within me." Scrooge repents the selfish life he once invested in when he realised that being a miser caused him to miss out on the most important and pleasurable part of living. A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens is a compelling tale of greed, love and charity. Studying this short novel at school is necessary because it concedes the threats of holding and leading a selfish life and how acting greedy is notorious on your fate and your perspective of life. Through his representation of Scrooge, Dickens wants the reader to learn from his miserable personality and encourages others Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay On Scrooge In A Christmas Carol Character Transformation Essay Characterization is the concept of creating characters. Many authors throughout time include dramatic transformations for their characters in their literature. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens brilliantly employs characterization within the characterEbenezer Scrooge, who experiences a truly powerful and life–changing transformation, from a horrid person to one with great ebullience for life. In Stave 1, Dickens establishes Scrooge's character as an extremely avaricious person who doesn't encourage the notion of joy. To illustrate, "'If I could work my will,' Scrooge said indignantly, 'every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.'" (Dickens, 5) In the beginning of the novel, Scrooge had been adamantly disagreeable as to whether or not Christmas was a joyful...show more content... Scrooge persists and persists that he will improve his behavior in this piece of text, "'I am not the man I was. I will not be the man I must have been bit for this intercourse.'" At seeing the Ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future, the clearly frightened Ebenezer decides to change his personality once and for all; as well as developing a love for Christmas. Even kind–hearted Cratchit was frightened of Scrooge's change in behavior when Scrooge said, "'I am about to raise your salary!' Bob trembled, and got a little nearer to the ruler. He had a momentary idea of knocking Scrooge down...'" (Dickens, 121) It is such a dramatic change in Scrooge's personality that Cratchit grabbed himself a weapon in horror, however at the end of their amusing conversation Cratchit is much more fond of Ebenezer when in juxtaposed to the beginning of the story. Scrooge is evidently a different man at the end of the novel, where instead of being a rapacious old man, he becomes a cheerful and benevolent Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. A Christmas Carol Essay The topic of this essay made me start to brainstorm about all the books I have read throughout middle school and high school and which books have impacted me. I wanted to pick a piece that actually had a meaning in my life and not just a book that I was forced to read. Out of all the pieces that I have read I wanted to pick one that affected my life in some way. With that said, I decided to write aboutA Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. I first read A Christmas Carol when I was younger but when I really got into the book was in 7th grade. A Christmas Carol was published on December 19, 1843 by Chapman and Hall in London. A Christmas Carol showed me that the choices I make affect me the others around me in more ways than what is happening in that moment, it can affect everyone in the past, present, and the future. It has impacted my life in this way, by how I write and how it makes me think of the past, present, and future while I am writing an essay. In the book "A Christmas Carol" the protagonist known as Ebenezer Scrooge was very well known throughout the whole plotline. Ebenezer Scrooge was mostly known for being old and grumpy. In the middle of the novel Scrooge is approached by three ghosts, past, present, and future on Christmas eve. The first time he gets unexpectedly visited by the ghosts he runs into an old friend who was also his old business partner whose name was Marley. Marley was just warning Scrooge that he will run into three more ghosts in the next few Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens In the book ' A Christmas Carol', Dickens describes the poor, how they were treated unfairly and how they were thought as animals rather than human beings. Dickens portrays the rich as ignorant and selfish people that think they are bigger than the world itself. Charles Dickens new a lot about poverty, as his parents were not earning enough money to pay of debts, which meant that Dickens himself had to leave school at the age of 12 to work in a factory. He had a terrible experience; he had felt what it was like to be poor, to have no hope for the future and worked long hours in a dirty factory. Charles dickens used Scrooge to symbolize the minority of the population that are...show more content... He sees his lack of providing for the family has caused the death–to–be for Tiny Tim, as he has done nothing to stop it, therefore he is part responsible. Seeing how the Cratchit's live makes Scrooge realize that he has caused poverty and that he is also the reason Tiny Tim could die. Scrooge reluctantly allows his clerk,Bob Cratchit, to take the Christmas day as a paid holiday. For Scrooge the idea of paying a man not to work seems an insult, and Christmas represents nothing but an "excuse for picking a man's pocket every twenty–fifth of December." In the first stave, Bob Cratchit asked to have Christmas day off and Scrooge wasn't too pleased with the idea but compromised and said, ' but I suppose you must have the whole day. Be here all the earlier next morning.' Scrooge has a young nephew called Fred who was introduced into the novel in a joyful manner, which was soon changed by Scrooge. Fred was extremely merry as it was Christmas and tried to share his joy with his uncle, but did not happen, 'A merry Christmas, uncle!' scrooge replied. ' Bah! Humbug!' Scrooge wonders how someone so poor, Fred, could be so happy, ' what reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough.' Scrooge and Fred were both at it, but Fred did not get angry once and still wished Scrooge a merry Christmas and a happy new year. As soon as Fred left, two 'portly gentlemen' walked in. These two men were charity workers that go around the town Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. A Christmas Carol Essay Each ghost marks an important step in Scrooge's journey towards being a better person. Explain In Dickens five stave novella each ghost in A Christmas Carol contributes to the final redemption of his journey to becoming a better person. The ghosts take Scrooge on a journey, physically, taking him to visit important aspects of his past, present and future and these journeys metaphorically empathy enlightenment that he needs to change into a more humane person. The five staves outline how he grows as a person, and eventually redeems himself. Although the three main ghost of the novel are large aspects of Scrooges journey, without the initial visit from Marley's Ghost, Scrooge would not have had the opportunity change for the better....show more content... The ghost then takes Scrooge to his boarding school where he is greeted by his much younger sister Fan expressing how excited she is to spend Christmas all together as a family. "Scrooge seemed uneasy in his mind;" It is here that Scrooge begins to regret the way he treats Fans only son, Scrooges only nephew and become remorseful for rejecting him from his life. We then are introduced to Scrooges old place of work where he was apprenticed by Old Fezziwig. Scrooge is reminded of the way he was treated by his employer. He was respected and was respectful towards him, and the example of Old Fezziwig demonstrates how Scrooge is the exact opposite. This was an example of what a good employer can be, and he wishes to speak to his clerk. "He has the power to render us happy or unhappy; to make our service light or burdensome;" It is now Scrooge begins to understand that he has been making his clerk, Bob Cratchit's life a misery. The ghost of Christmas past has covered three main aspects of Scrooges past, but the final one is his past relationship with Belle, who he lost because he changed his nature and became more interested in gaining money instead of appreciating what he had. To emphasize the regret Scrooge should feel, the ghost takes him to Belles new home and family, which shakes Scrooge the most because it is what Scrooge missed out on. "When he thought that such another Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. A Christmas Carol Essay A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. Life for the lower class during this time was extremely hard because of enormous amounts of illnesses, young children worked and no education. A Christmas Carol was set in mid 19th century, during this time people had a really bad time; most of the people was unemployed and the people who were employed were paid deficiently, others were seasonal or casual, which meant they were when work was available so most of the families lived in poverty which means that they didn't have access to nice food and clothes and children were also used for the family income so the children had to work in work houses. In contrast the rich people had access to doctors, plenty of food and didn't have to...show more content... The novel is written in first person. The narrator uses self referencing, "Mind! I don't mean to say that I know my own knowledge." This shows that the narrator is referencing to him. Dickens uses 1st person narrator to persuade the reader that the moral message is relevant so that the reader creates a relationship with the narrator and trusts the information provided. The phrase "Dead as a doornail" is a simile. Dickens uses this phrase at the beginning of the story to get the reader interested in the story and makes them want to read on. Dickens uses colloquialisms to communicate to the reader to make the narrator honest so that the reader believes what he says, so that the reader positions the reader to accept the extraordinary events that follow. Dickens uses non–finite verbs to show how evil scrooge is and how he lends money and sets the interest rates, and then he fights to get every penny back. • 9. Stave 1 – Isolation Isolation is the main theme of this stave. In this stave, it talks a lot about Scrooge isolating himself from society, and choosing to be alone and miserable . In this particular stave, Christmas is rounding the corner, and this setting is causing Scrooge to be even grouchy and irritable than ever. Dickens makes it very clear in his writing that during the holiday's is when Scrooge is isolating himself from other people, and staying in his own personal world. On page three, it is written that no one ever came to make conversation with him, no children, no man or woman, not even beggars asked anything of him! The one reason this continued on in his social life, was the fact that he absolutely did not have a care in the world about being alone and isolated from the world around him. As Scrooge observes some past events of his life, he is mostly filled with shame and regret as to why he would do such a thing. On page 50, it talks about why his fiance, Emily, breaks up with him because she thinks he's replaced her with money, and the need to be wealthy. At seeing this occur, he immediately fills up with regret and overall shame. This stave is mainly bringing up all the things that Scrooge has done during Christmas, and trying to make him regret and be shameful so he can change his way of living before it's too Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. In this extract we are presented with Scrooge. From the beginning Scrooge is presented as a miser. In the extract we find out that he is an old, rude and ignorant man that doesn't appreciate others around him. Dickens uses different language techniques to describe Scrooges appearance as clear as possible. In the opening paragraph Dickens uses imagery to create a vivid impression of Scrooge. He is described as 'a tight–fisted hand at the grind–stone', and this metaphor suggests that Scrooge works hard for his money but is very tight with his money. In the opening lines Dickens includes similes. 'Hard and sharp as a flint.' Flint is a hard stone that was used with iron to create sparks before people...show more content... Dickens has used verbs used as adjectives when describing Scrooge such as 'stiffened his gait'. The effect of these words makes the reader focus on it more and because it's a long list the reader gets a clear definition of what Scrooge looks like. The adjectives that Dickens uses aren't describing him as being a nice person, from these adjectives you can tell that he is an old and miserable character. Dickens focuses on temperature, when doing this he emphasises how cold hearted Scrooge really is. 'No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could cool him.' This shows the reader that Scrooge is as cold as he could ever be and nothing can change him. Dickens also uses a pathetic fallacy, he uses the weather to describe Scrooges character. 'The heaviest rain, and snow, and hail, and sleet, could boast of the advantage over him in only one respect.' Dickens uses the harshest weather to describe him, showing the reader how horrible of a man Scrooge is, using a pathetic fallacy clearly shows the reader how important Scrooges personality is throughout the book. From this extract the reader knows that Scrooge is a negative character. Straight away we know that he has a negative impact on others. 'Nobody ever stopped him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, "My dear Scrooge, how are you?"' This dialogue never actually happened, this shows that the other characters in the book are too afraid to acknowledge Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Theme Of Redemption In A Christmas Carol The study of redemption in terms of Christianity is of high value and noteworthy. Dicken's A Christmas Carol is of the finest and to some extent is the greatest work of redemption. It is the play that is closely related to the action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil. Ebenzer Scrooge, a more interesting character that has become synonymous with an angry mood and excessive thriftiness during the holiday season, is a man of redeeming qualities. With AChristmas Carol, Dickens tries to manipulate how self–serving, insensitive people can be converted into charitable, devoted and socially conscious members of society by quasi–religious lessons.More or less or by default Ebenezer Scrooge redeems his soul by becoming the antithesis...show more content... Manifestation of self through several past experiences by each Ghost has projected Scrooge to get rid out of his damnation. Dickens Carol is highly corroborative in terms of the true sense of its meaning. Memory helps Scrooge to remind other people with which he was really connected before his self damnation. Empathy enables Scrooge to sympathize with and understand those having less fortunate than himself like Tiny Tim and Bob Cratchit and highlights the message of love and sympathy and devotion for one's own community. The world becomes a better place almost immediately following Scrooge's conversion. In fact, the story implies that a renewed connection to humanity is, in fact, the very essence of redemption. Though the Christmas setting invites a traditional Christian interpretation of Scrooge's redemption, his change is rooted not in a commitment to deeper spirituality or orthodoxy but in an authentic connection to and investment in the lives of other human beings. Overwhelmed with joy by the chance to save himself and grateful that at least he has been returned to Christmas day, Scrooge came out Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. A Christmas Carol Essay In the story of A Christmas Carol Marley started out dead as a doornail and like normal Scrooge is an old bitter, greedy man who hates Christmas, feelings, love and happiness. People around him think that Scrooge is a pain and an unfriendly person to be around during the holidays. He always acted like an old sinner who doesn't like anything. Nevertheless Scrooge is a tight fisted hand at the grindstone! Nobody really liked him because he never made friends and never really interacted with anyone. Scrooge has thin legs, a pointed nose and a cracked voice. In the first stave Marley came to Scrooge and told him what was yet to come and how he was always beside him watching him do things. Once Marley vanished Scrooge went to bed not thinking about the first spirit. The clock went faster than normal and Scrooge wondered why and started to freak out and soon the first spirit appeared. When the spirit came, she said "I'm The Ghost of Christmas Past." Scrooge was frightened and blinded by the light from the spirit. In the past of Scrooge were so many memories that mattered to him. Some of those memories that Scrooge had were great and many of them were not and but that's what gave Scrooge feelings. According to the text Scrooge sobbed when he saw some of the memories. So that must mean that he smiled when he saw some of the memories. After the spirit left Scrooge he had found out that his character needed improvement. The Ghost of Christmas Past affected Scrooge by Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The novel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a Christmas classic about a grumpy man named Scrooge, who is visited by spirits and then end ups changing for the better. In the novel Scrooge uses love to change, with the power of love Scrooge opens up more, but it's not just Scrooge who uses love to change. Dickens is trying to teach his audience that loving someone can change who you are because he writes about how Scrooge, the Cratchits, and Fred change for the better. • 14. A Christmas Carol Analysis Essay Every year at Christmas, people who celebrate the holiday place emphasis on giving to those less fortunate than them and spending money on family and friends. The exception to that would be Ebenezer Scrooge, that is, before he was visited by three spirits. This past month, I read the book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. For this analytical essay, I chose to write about a character from the novel and how the character has evolved from the start of the novel to the end. Ebenezer Scrooge, the protagonist of A Christmas Carol, has evolved throughout the story in that in the beginning, he despises Christmas, loves money, and turns people away from him; in the middle, when the three spirits come to him, he begins to repent his attitude and ways; and, in the end of the novel, he has fully changed and enjoys the Christmas holiday and gives to others. At the start of A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge despises Christmas, loves money, and turns people away from him. An example of Scrooge's despising Christmas, as well as his loving money, is when his nephew visits the counting–house on Christmas Eve to wish Scrooge a Merry Christmas, and the two men get into an argument about their clashing opinions on Christmas. "'Come, then,' returned the nephew, gayly. 'What right have you to be dismal? What reason have you to be morose? You're rich enough.' Scrooge, having no better answer ready on the spur of the moment, said, 'Bah! again; and followed it up with 'Humbug.' 'Don't be cross, uncle,' said the nephew. 'What else can I be,' returned the uncle, 'when I live in such a world of fools as this? Merry Christmas! Out upon merry Christmas! What's Christmas time to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having every item in 'em through a round dozen of months presented dead against you? If I could work my will,' said Scrooge, indignantly, 'every idiot who goes about with 'Merry Christmas,' on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!" (Dickens, 5–6). This quote shows that Scrooge believes Christmas is a nuisance in that, despite being Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. A Christmas Carol Text Response A Christmas Carol' Topic: 'Charles Dickens presents a warning to society through his novella 'A Christmas Carol'. Discuss. Fictional stories, although based upon make–believe tales, can often expose the truth behind an author's personal views and ideals, as well as act as powerful tools to present social messages and warnings to readers across many generations. 'A Christmas Carol', written by Charles Dickens, is a novella in which social inequality is highlighted through the journey of a notorious miser during the Victorian era in Britain. Throughout this morality tale, Dickens presents a warning to society through his 'social commentary' which centres on how society has become too self–absorbed and greedy in their ways. Dickens warns...show more content... Throughout the last stave, Scrooge is portrayed as a 'changed man', shown through his many acts of kindness and love as well as his changed attitude towards poverty and prosperity. "He became as good a friend, as good a master, and as good a man, as the good old city knew, or any other good old city, town or borough, in the good old world." This statement encapsulates the stark contrast between Scrooge's character in the first stave when compared to the last. It can even be said that the last stave is written in a symmetrical manner to that of the first. This is made obvious through the stark opposites that can be seen in Scrooge's personality in the first stave when compared to the last; where he used to be greedy and self–absorbed, he became selfless and compassionate. Dickens uses this example of symmetry to make Scrooge's transformation even more discernible to readers as to allow them to note just how a model citizen should act towards others. Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' presents a warning to society through the representation of characters and the journey and transformation of the notorious miser, Ebenezer Scrooge. Dickens warns society of the grim future that awaits humanity if people fail to respond to the plight of the poor. Finally, if Dickens intentions weren't made clear enough through these examples, his preface says it all. "I have endeavoured in this ghostly little book, to raise the ghost of an idea...May it haunt their houses pleasantly, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay On A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol Do you ever feel like people change? In A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens, Scrooge is a grouchy, unsocial, miserly, uncharitable old man. He is extremely unsympathetic and bah humbugs everything to do with Christmas. On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is magically visited by 3 ghosts. The ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Scrooge has a rude awakening of haunting memories he holds onto. These memories make him feeling as if he needs a second chance and a fresh start at life. What better day than Christmas to tidy the dreaded past. The mysterious ghosts bring him to the past, present and future in one night. Scrooge had remarkable experiences and felt emotions he had never thought were possible to feel again. Scrooge longed for a new future because of these experiences. Therefore, I believe that Scrooge changed in the play because of the ghostly visits, his aching heart for Tiny Tim and the relief that he could have a second chance at life. The ghost of Christmas past brought Scrooge to the past and reminisced. Scrooge began to see what a lovely and good hearted human he used to be. Scrooge could not bare to look at the flashbacks because he became disgraced of himself. Scrooge began to blame the ghost of Christmas past for making him feel so incredibly mortified. Secondly, the ghost of Christmas present and Scrooge set forth to the Cratchit's home. As Scrooge looks in on the Cratchit's Christmas Eve supper, he realizes how Mrs. Cratchit Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. A Christmas Carol Essay A Christmas Carol In a Christmas Carol, Dickens uses some of his past childhood experiences to show us that Christmas is very important and many messages come across in this book. It is split up into five 'staves.' The reason that they are staves instead of chapters as staves are used in music and it is called a Christmas 'carol.' In most cases, when people hear the word 'Christmas', we think of a time for giving and sharing with people less fortunate, a time for being thankful for everything we have no matter how little or how big, a chance to spend time with the people we love, joking, laughing and smiling. Generally a good time is had by all. Possibly the only exception is Scrooge. Scrooge is a cruel, cold, heartless,...show more content... This book proves that money is not everything because even though Scrooge was so rich, he was probably the most unhappy person every Christmas until he changed. Dickens describes Scrooge in a way which makes us feel complete antipathy towards him. I think he wanted us to feel such strong feelings against Scrooge partly because of Dickens's childhood. Dickens had a tough childhood with not much money and yet he still enjoyed Christmas as a youth. Dickens's father was taken into jail when Charles was just twelve because the family was in so much debt and Charles had to work for a year, it is believed, to support the family. Here is Scrooge with no problems, enough money to make Christmas happy for many people, and he is not doing it. All the way through the first Stave, Dickens gradually, but surely, paints a picture in our minds of Scrooge, and it is not a good one! The first main description of him is a set of adjectives. It describes him as being a 'squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner!' This list is enormous and it gives the impression that the negative comments that could be made about Scrooge are almost endless. It is effective as it makes us feel tired from reading all those descriptions. It sticks in our head because how could we forget all those remarks made about him?

  • 19. A Christmas Carol Essay A Christmas Carol Lots of people take great pleasure in listening or telling ghost stories. People enjoy this because it gives them a chance to tell people maybe some of their own experiences, stories or their ideas. Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It is also a good way of socialising as you are talking to people and sharing experiences that people may find extremely interesting, resulting in them thinking you are very intellectual, as telling stories can be more in depth than just having a conversation. The usual setting for a ghost story is an image of darkness and fear, which is intended to bring across the image of fear on the reader and involve them in the story. In the actual ghost...show more content... Dickens uses the power of contrasting to get the best possible results in the story, Dickens contrasts scrooge with gothic windows and cold, but then turns to Christmas and great fires this contrast can really give you a clear image of a street in which you have different sections and I get the feeling of being closed in. This also happens again near the end of extract 3, in the lord mayors house lots of preparations are being made for Christmas and you can see that a Christmas mood and essence is in the air, then in the next line you are suddenly withdrawn and swung into a world of misery with the line "Foggier yet, and colder! The fog and frost so hung about the black old gateway of the house, that it seemed as if the genius of weather sat in mournful meditation on the threshold". Although the weather description doesn't look or sound exactly friendly I think it seems more relaxed. It is Christmas Eve and everybody is asleep,

  • 21. A Christmas Carol Theme Essay " Spirit, hear me. I am not he man I was. I will not be the man I have been for so many years. Why show me all of this if I am past all hope? Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me. Let the boy live! I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach." (Scrooge, p.140). A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an important story as it has a meaningful theme of change, as the quotes states above. But that isn't the only theme that this beautiful story shows us. Many different spirits encounter him to help him realize why Christmas is important (I'm pretty sure that is the meaning of the spirits). When the first spirit of the past encounters him, he realizes what he has done, and regrets some of the things he did. The second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn't care that he died. When we read A Christmas Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives. Everyone's past can have some bumps in the road that can result in misery, regret but also happiness. But it can also play an important role Get more content on HelpWriting.net
