metropolises for more than 400 years. In about 1594–96 Shakespeare wrote a tragedy named "Romeo and Juliet" and published it in 1599. Romeo and
Juliet depict literature, music and theatre. In the play Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare shows the hardship that goes on when two kids who are
forbidden to see each other. Romeo stars off in the streets of Verona in a brawl between two noble families, the Capulets and the Montague. The two
families fought with each other so much that the ruler of Verona decreed death penalty for any individual who disturbs the peace. Romeo is a
16–year–old boy who is the heir to the House of Montague. At Romeo's age the only thing on his mind is being in love. He confides in his cousin
Benvolio, that he is in love with a woman named Rosaline. Rosaline did not feel the same way towards Romeo, but it seems that he didn't care.
Benvolio advises Romeo to find another beautiful woman,

many love stories originate from previously existed love, as either to continue the story or to improve on the story line or even just to recreate the
story/play into a movie. There are many successful remakes of plays and some that did not work out, as they did not contain the deep roots and
meanings of the original play/ story. Many Shakespearian plays and stories were recreated into movies to entertain audiences and to get the morals
across to the audience by a more naГЇve and a youthful way for all kinds of watchers. William Shakespeare has wrote many plays that hold vast
concepts that do nit intrigue the reader when he/she reads it but when they understand the concept and story behind it.

It is a cartoon–based version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet are gnomes in Gnomeo and Juliet; the story line is pretty much
similar to the actual Romeo and Juliet. Gnomeo and Juliet have many twists and turns that make it applicable for young audiences to watch and
understand. The gnomes are set in 2 peoples backyards and Juliet's family are the red gnomes and Romeos family are the blue gnomes. The owners
of both houses and the mother and father of Romeo and Juliet are Capulet and Montague in Shakespeare's version. The gnomes are to only to move
when the owners of both houses are not present. Gnomeo and Juliet both fell in love but when they learnt that they are both from nemesis families,
they knew their love is forbidden. When the family found out that Juliet loves Gnomeo they went to war in their own backyards and Romeos best
friend ordered a lawn mower to win the battle faster but that only turned it into the worse as a monument fell over Romeo and Juliet, but thankfully
they didn't die. The story ends with both families and homeowners in peace and Romeo and Juliet getting

Romeo And Juliet Movie Comparison Essay
In the original play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare in 1587, throughout the years there have been movies made trying to convey the
message that Shakespeare had wanted. The movies that will be examined in order to compare the differences on whether they are similar to the original
are Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and Carlo Carlei's 2013 version, Romeo & Juliet. The movies are another
version of the original play in terms of setting, tone and characters that were used in conveying the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is clearly seen that
Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version is more similar to the original play as it brings out the tone and conveys the message better than the Carlo Carlei's 2013

Unlike Baz Luhrmann's movie, Carlo Carlei conveyed the tones of romance, passion and violence differently. Carlei changes the start of the original
plot to a jousting tournament, in the end, Benvolio wins the golden ring for the Montagues. This then makes the Capulets to be quite annoyed and
jealous as they start a fight with the Montagues. They then get caught by the Prince as he declares that they have started three civil brawls around fair
Verona and whoever starts another between the families will be killed. The statement that the Prince made was not shown, as only one brawl was
shown in the Carlo Carlei's version.
The setting of the Baz Luhrmann movie was fair Verona, although it had more of a modern day twist to it. This is evident when the cars, petrol
stations, helicopters and televisions were visible throughout the movie, which does not convey the similar setting with the original play. It can also be
conspicuous during the violence in the Baz Luhrmann movie when the characters shot each other with guns instead of using swords. The original play
was set in the classical times that did not contain modern objects like those in the Baz Luhrmann movie. Instead of the Carlo Carlei movie sets the
scene with a more olden way of presenting Verona, which resembles the original more than the Baz Luhrmann version. The Carlo Carlei version
resembled more similar settings to the original play as it is shown by the costumes, swords that were used when fighting and the

Romeo And Juliet Essay About Love
Love Through Shakespeare's Eyes Questions of love and lust have plagued the story of Romeo and Juliet, a romantic tragedy written by Shakespeare
for years. However, the real question would not be whether what the two had was love, but what type of love it was. Romeo and Juliet had a
short–lived relationship bursting with young passionate love, despite family quarrels disputing one another's name. Some say love is purely a
chemical reaction in the brain. Others say it is what separates us from love that shows it most, with some believing that love is life's greatest blessing,
never hurting. It is my belief that Romeo and Juliet had a passionate commitment that never hurt, though costing dearly, with obstacles that proved it
stronger. Love is everything at times when it is tested by the most obstacles. Romeo displays this when he meets Juliet yet again in the balcony scene.
Romeo exhibits this and tells Juliet , "With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do,

Of all of the categories, the love of Romeo and Juliet fits into ludus, a playful, youthful affection and pragma, more mature love. The lovers often flirt
with each other, showing ludus to convey their youthful zeal. Romeo often displays this, such as when he says, "How silver sweet sound lovers'
tongues by night , like softest music to attending ears!" (II,ii, 166–167). This excerpt from the balcony scene takes just a portion of their conversation
in which they flirt playfully, which is ludus. Though pragma, the more mature love typically develops between long–term couples after a long period of
time, Romeo and Juliet partially developed this genre of love. The two actively practiced good will, commitment, compromise, and understanding. The
lovers acted more mature than their own parents by overcoming family name to

A Modern Version of Romeo and Juliet
This is the story of two young lovers named Mohammed Fatah and Julia Smith. Mohammed was the only son of a Muslim sheik who owned many
oilfields in Iran, while Julia was the daughter of a powerful oil–mining tycoon. The Fatah's and Smith's had been enemies as long as anyone could
remember. If they happened to meet in the desert, they often fought. The sounds of gunfire would echo across the deserts almost daily. Through the
years, many employees and family members had died at the hands of the other.
One day, the Smith's company held a great party in the desert. Sheiks, tycoons, politicians and all the rich influential people from all over the world had

In the tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare displays an example of how teenage love can embrace the feelings of the young but
also cause destruction, not only in their lives but also the people's lives around them. This story shows how others opinions and thoughts can affect
the people close to them. But who is responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? The death of these star crossed lovers was not only the
teenagers fault but also their family and friends such as, their parents, Friar Lawrence, and the nurse. Romeo and Juliet's parents play a major role in the
death of their children; both families hate each other due to an ancient feud between the Montague's and Capulet's. When Romeo and Juliet met each

story, she told Romeo about the marriage and when he was going to see Juliet again. Then towards the ending of the story she started realizing that
Juliet's parents were not going to let her marry anyone but Paris. So Nurse tried to help Juliet realize that, and it only made Juliet more upset and

The whole story could lead back to the ancient feud, but in the end it could have been prevented. They died because of many things and it would be

Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Essay
Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed
in fate, they believed that your destiny was fated. They also believed that fate was fickle, it could change, one day everything would be good and the
next day things could be really bad. If you challenged fate, it would take up the challenge. If it wasn't fate there are many more things which could have
caused the tragedy; the feud, this means that everything that happens in Verona ends in violence, Friar Lawrence, shouldn't have married them and

them. During the marriage ceremony Romeo says that now he has married Juliet nothing can go wrong. This challenges fate. When the fight starts

terrible strife between two families, Shakespeare manages to deliver Act 1 as an effective and engaging introduction to the story with the use of various
linguistic devices and literary techniques. Shakespeare creates a gripping introduction to Romeo and Juliet at the very beginning, where he introduces
dramatic tension, romance and humour in Act 1. In addition, the introduction is effective in introducing central conflict and key characters. With the

A brawl is seen taking place between the servants of both houses, involving violence and blood. This rousing action and dramatic tension appeals to
the audience, introducing and providing background information about Benvolio and Tybalt. In this particular scene, Benvolio is seen as a passive
and sensible person, whereas Tybalt is the aggressor. Despite being a member of the Montague family, Benvolio prefers peace. As the fighting
breaks out, Benvolio tries to stop it by saying, 'Part, fools! Put up your swords; you know not what you do,' warning them to quit before things
accelerate to a serious level. Benvolio thinks before he acts and is described as a peacemaker. On the other hand, Tybalt is seen as a hot–headed
character, being impulsive and violent. When Tybalt enters the scene, he attempts to pick a fight with Benvolio, 'Turn thee? Look upon thy death.'
Although Benvolio attempts to maintain the peace, Tybalt responds, 'Talk of peace? I hate the words as I hate hell, all Montagues and thee.' This
conversation increases the dramatic tension and suggests an impending violent conflict, leaving the audience in suspense. Shakespeare uses character

The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet Essay
The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet "Romeo and Juliet" is a tragic love story set in Verona, Italy in the late 1500s. It is a moving tale of two young
people, Romeo and Juliet, who fall in love. The displeasure and anger of their feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets, who are long time
enemies, however, complicate their love. The feud between the households, underlines the entire tragedy, and in my opinion it is one of the most
responsible reasons for Romeo and Juliet's deaths. The play starts with a Prologue, which is an opening to the play. It was normal for plays written in
this time to start with one. It gave the audience a brief summary of what was going to happen in the play. In...show more content...
The feud was the setting of the tragedy. Without it, Romeo and Juliet would never have had to keep their marriage and love a secret. This is
shown in the opening of the Prologue, "The fearful passage of their death mark'd love, And the continuous of their parents' rage, Which, but their
children's' end nough could remove". The feud aggravated characters such as Mercutio and Tybalt to express anger towards their enemies, which
ended in fights that ended in fatalities. When Tybalt saw Romeo at the party, he immediately wanted to kill him, and didn't stop to think that
Romeo wasn't doing anything wrong. When Tybalt confronted Romeo, all Romeo wanted was peace. In his mind Romeo was a Montague and a
Montague is and enemy. Tybalt wanted to kill Romeo because he thought it was disrespectful for Romeo and his friends to turn up to the Capulet's
ball uninvited and not welcome. He sees this as the only way to seek revenge after; Romeo has humiliated his family by arriving at the rival
family's ball. If the feud had not existed, then Tybalt would have had no reason to confront Romeo and to kill him. Hence, not starting a chain of
events to lead to Romeo and Juliet's deaths. Friar Lawrence is a teacher and an advisor most notably to Romeo who the Friar refers to as a pupil, "For
doting, not for loving, pupil mine". After the night of Romeo and Juliet's first meeting, Romeo

Romeo And Juliet Argumentative Essay
Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set in 16th century Verona, Italy. A play that relays the story of two
young lovers whose ill–fated deaths end an ancient family feud. The two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, come from families who disapprove of their
love. Their situation complicates as the play progresses, with an arranged marriage and several deaths. Romeo and Juliet both fall to the
consequences of their secret marriage. Even from the beginning, their decisions were rash; especially from Romeo. Shakespeare use of various
tactics in developing Romeo's character in the play. He shows that Romeo has an impulsive and emotional disposition. In the play Romeo and Juliet,
Romeo is irrational. Firstly, after meeting Juliet for the first time, Romeo falls hopelessly in love. He climbs the wall to her orchard; he drops in
where a guard of the Capulet household could have killed him. But he thinks he is on "love's light wings"(II.ii.30) When Juliet steps on her balcony,
she scolds Romeo. But he tells Juliet that he would rather die than be without her love "And but thou love me, let them find me her... My life were
better ended by their hate... Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love." (II.ii.80–83) Romeo has only known Juliet for barely a night and he is already
in love with her. He already wants a future with Juliet without even trying to get to know her. This shows how quite irrational Romeo is because he's
quick to judge. How does he

Act One of Romeo and Juliet Essay
Act One immediately engages the audience. Do you agree with this statement? How does Shakespeare achieve this? Act One of 'Romeo and Juliet'
by William Shakespeare does indeed immediately engage the audience. Shakespeare does this by using several language techniques to create an
interesting opening scene. Shakespeare uses humour, action and romance all in Act One and it is this variation that keeps the audience's attention.
The play begins with a prologue that is written in the form of a sonnet. The Prologue gives a summary of the play but does not give away too much
of the plot, in order to keep the suspense. Shakespeare tells of the great tragedy that will follow. The sonnet form is used because it is more interesting

They are usually dressed in bright, colourful costume, they walk jauntily and they talk jovially between themselves to create an immediate
light–hearted, happy air. The two servants poke fun at each other and use sexual innuendo to create an immediate sense of humour in the play. They
begin by using wordplay to create humour on the first four lines and then move on to boasting to one another about their fighting skills. Sampson
says, 'I strike quickly, being moved' to mean that he is quick to fight when he is angry. From line ten, the servants begin to use words with two
meanings, one of which is sexual. Words like 'thrust', 'stir' (to have sex), 'stand' (have an erection) and 'maidenheads' (virginity) are used. Sampson and
Gregory continue to use sexual innuendo to insult each other's manhood and brag about their own virility. Sampson says that ''t is known I [he] is a
pretty piece of flesh' to mean he is an attractive man but Gregory replies insultingly by suggesting that he is not able to have an erection. This gives the
play humour and grabs the audience's attention. Immediately after this, an argument breaks out between Sampson and Gregory and two servants of the
Montague household. After a few insults, they begin to fight. When performed on stage, it is

Loyalty in Romeo and Juliet Essay example
Romeo and Juliet– Loyalty Loyalty plays a big part in Romeo and Juliet. Ties of loyalty are woven throughout the play, binding certain characters
together. The main theme is the feuding families of Romeo and Juliet that holds an "ancient grudge" against each other: the Montague's and the
Capulet's. Romeo's family and friends despise Juliet's family, the Capulet's, and as the play progresses you will find them defending each other in the
face of an enemy. Romeo and Juliet have to defy their parent's expressive wish not to see each other, and accept the consequences of their forbidden
love. They question the fact that there's no solid fact that the two family's hate each other: merely time has blown the feuding out of proportion. Some

For example Juliets Nurse and Friar Laurence roles in the play affect both of their lives immensely. When Romeo is banished from Verona, Juliet
does not follow him blindly. She makes a logical and heartfelt decision that her loyalty and love for Romeo will be her main priority, and she will
do whatever it takes to make their love work. The moment Romeo realises he loves Juliet his loyalty becomes divided, between what he knows is
right and what his heart says. As I've said before, loyalty had both positive and negative outcomes. Romeo and Juliet might not have met if it weren't
for Romeo's friends urging him to gatecrash the ball. As he was loyal he did not argue, however he probably had an ulterior motive: to catch a
glimpse of Rosaline, who he thought he was in love with. If Juliet's Nurse had not been devoted to Juliet, she would have told the Capulet's which
could have resulted in Romeo and Juliet's end a lot sooner. On the other hand, you could argue that loyalty lead to both of their deaths, with the
reasoning that had Romeo not been so attached to Mercutio he would not have killed Tybalt when Tybalt fatally injured Mercutio. If he had not slain
Tybalt, he would not have been banned from Verona, and in turn they might have thought of a different plan than the one they eventually chose which
was wrought with complications and took both of their lives. If Juliet had not trusted Friar Laurence so greatly, she might have thought of a more

Essay on The Inner Struggles of Romeo and Juliet
In the tragedy 'Romeo and Juliet', Shakespeare presents the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet, the two protagonists as one of the main themes.
This is clearly shown at the end of Act 3 Scene 2 when Juliet receives the news that Romeo has been banished and Tybalt has been killed. Juliet is
distraught at the conflict of her loyalties. Should she express love for her family or should she express love for Romeo? By using many different
language features, such as oxymorons, paradox, antithesis and dramatic irony, Shakespeare effectively displays Juliet's conflicting emotions. Later in
the play, Shakespeare uses the betrayal by adults to again show the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet. In this passage from Act 3 Scene 2, Juliet

/ That villain cousin would have kill'd my husband" (3:2). This reflects the internal conflict of Juliet. Love, in 'Romeo and Juliet' has its own
importance in the theme of inner struggle between the two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is torn between staying loyal to her family and
therefore obeying her parents to marry Paris or staying married to an enemy, Romeo, "My husband lives, that Tybalt has slain; / And Tybalt's dad,
that would have slain my husband: / All this is comfort; wherefore weep I then?" (3:2). On the other hand, Romeo has his struggles too. He juggles
between the idea of banishment from Verona and not being able to see his beloved Juliet again and that of death, "Ha, banishment? Be merciful,
say 'death'." (3:3). The secret marriage between Romeo and Juliet is also one of the outcomes due to love. It is because of love that Juliet risked
her parents' disapproval to not marry Paris and Romeo risked the danger of being killed by Capulet's kinsmen to go to see her. Yet again, this shows
the inner struggle of Romeo and Juliet. Adult betrayal of Romeo and Juliet is one of the key factors that lead to the inner struggles of the two
protagonists. When Capulet and Lady Capulet marries Juliet off to Paris without discussing the matter with Juliet, Juliet refuses to do so causing
Capulet to threaten to disown her if she does not give her consent, "I tell thee what, get thee to church a Thursday, / Or never after look me in the
face." (3:5).

Romeo and Juliet: Movie vs. Play Essay

Romeo And Juliet Vs Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet go through a lot since meeting each other. They are considered one of literature's most exciting couples because they do
whatever they can to be with each other. They also share a love that is one of the finest in all of history. Romeo and Juliet are truly in love with
each other because they value their time together, they have constant thoughts about each other, and they are willing to sacrifice what either of them
has to be together. First of all, Romeo and Juliet truly value their time that they have together. This is shown on page 404, line 33, where
Shakespeare states," O Romeo. Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?" and on page 405 , line 66, where Shakespeare also states, "With love's light
wings did I o'perch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And for what love can do that dares love attempt." This shows that both,
Romeo and Juliet, truly do value their time together because of the way they longer for each other's presence. This also shows how Juliet is desperate
to spend time with Romeo because of how she questions where Romeo is. And...show more content...
This can first be seen on page 404, line 50, where Shakespeare puts it,"Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; Henceforth I will never be
Romeo." This shows how Romeo is willing to sacrifice his own name just to be called Juliet's love. Also, this shows that Romeo will do anything
for Juliet as long as they are in love. Another case where Romeo or Juliet makes a sacrifice for the other is on page 475, line 161, where
Shakespeare wrote,"Go get thee hence, for I will not away. What's here? A cup closed in my truelove's hand? . . . This is thy sheath; there rust, and
let me die." This clarifies how Juliet is unwilling to leave her true love, Romeo, and would rather sacrifice her life to be with his than to live without
him. Therefore, Romeo and Juliet would be willing to do anything for each

Introduction Of Romeo And Juliet

  • 1. Introduction Of Romeo And Juliet William Shakespeare also known as "Bard of Avon" poet, playwright and actor. Shakespeare was born in Stratford –upon–Avon, England, and baptized on April 26, 1564. He died April 23, 1616 in Stratford–upon–Avon, England. At the age of eighteen Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway. Together they raised two daughters, Susanna and Judith (twin brother died). He was an important member of the lord chamberlains man company of theatrical players. Shakespeare wrote 20 plays that captured the range of human emotion and conflict. He has performed in countless hamlets, villages, cities and metropolises for more than 400 years. In about 1594–96 Shakespeare wrote a tragedy named "Romeo and Juliet" and published it in 1599. Romeo and Juliet depict literature, music and theatre. In the play Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare shows the hardship that goes on when two kids who are forbidden to see each other. Romeo stars off in the streets of Verona in a brawl between two noble families, the Capulets and the Montague. The two families fought with each other so much that the ruler of Verona decreed death penalty for any individual who disturbs the peace. Romeo is a 16–year–old boy who is the heir to the House of Montague. At Romeo's age the only thing on his mind is being in love. He confides in his cousin Benvolio, that he is in love with a woman named Rosaline. Rosaline did not feel the same way towards Romeo, but it seems that he didn't care. Benvolio advises Romeo to find another beautiful woman, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Gnomeo And Juliet Essay many love stories originate from previously existed love, as either to continue the story or to improve on the story line or even just to recreate the story/play into a movie. There are many successful remakes of plays and some that did not work out, as they did not contain the deep roots and meanings of the original play/ story. Many Shakespearian plays and stories were recreated into movies to entertain audiences and to get the morals across to the audience by a more naГЇve and a youthful way for all kinds of watchers. William Shakespeare has wrote many plays that hold vast concepts that do nit intrigue the reader when he/she reads it but when they understand the concept and story behind it. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic play written by William...show more content... It is a cartoon–based version of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet are gnomes in Gnomeo and Juliet; the story line is pretty much similar to the actual Romeo and Juliet. Gnomeo and Juliet have many twists and turns that make it applicable for young audiences to watch and understand. The gnomes are set in 2 peoples backyards and Juliet's family are the red gnomes and Romeos family are the blue gnomes. The owners of both houses and the mother and father of Romeo and Juliet are Capulet and Montague in Shakespeare's version. The gnomes are to only to move when the owners of both houses are not present. Gnomeo and Juliet both fell in love but when they learnt that they are both from nemesis families, they knew their love is forbidden. When the family found out that Juliet loves Gnomeo they went to war in their own backyards and Romeos best friend ordered a lawn mower to win the battle faster but that only turned it into the worse as a monument fell over Romeo and Juliet, but thankfully they didn't die. The story ends with both families and homeowners in peace and Romeo and Juliet getting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Romeo And Juliet Movie Comparison Essay In the original play Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare in 1587, throughout the years there have been movies made trying to convey the message that Shakespeare had wanted. The movies that will be examined in order to compare the differences on whether they are similar to the original are Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and Carlo Carlei's 2013 version, Romeo & Juliet. The movies are another version of the original play in terms of setting, tone and characters that were used in conveying the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is clearly seen that Baz Luhrmann's 1996 version is more similar to the original play as it brings out the tone and conveys the message better than the Carlo Carlei's 2013 ...show more content... Unlike Baz Luhrmann's movie, Carlo Carlei conveyed the tones of romance, passion and violence differently. Carlei changes the start of the original plot to a jousting tournament, in the end, Benvolio wins the golden ring for the Montagues. This then makes the Capulets to be quite annoyed and jealous as they start a fight with the Montagues. They then get caught by the Prince as he declares that they have started three civil brawls around fair Verona and whoever starts another between the families will be killed. The statement that the Prince made was not shown, as only one brawl was shown in the Carlo Carlei's version. The setting of the Baz Luhrmann movie was fair Verona, although it had more of a modern day twist to it. This is evident when the cars, petrol stations, helicopters and televisions were visible throughout the movie, which does not convey the similar setting with the original play. It can also be conspicuous during the violence in the Baz Luhrmann movie when the characters shot each other with guns instead of using swords. The original play was set in the classical times that did not contain modern objects like those in the Baz Luhrmann movie. Instead of the Carlo Carlei movie sets the scene with a more olden way of presenting Verona, which resembles the original more than the Baz Luhrmann version. The Carlo Carlei version resembled more similar settings to the original play as it is shown by the costumes, swords that were used when fighting and the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Romeo And Juliet Essay About Love Love Through Shakespeare's Eyes Questions of love and lust have plagued the story of Romeo and Juliet, a romantic tragedy written by Shakespeare for years. However, the real question would not be whether what the two had was love, but what type of love it was. Romeo and Juliet had a short–lived relationship bursting with young passionate love, despite family quarrels disputing one another's name. Some say love is purely a chemical reaction in the brain. Others say it is what separates us from love that shows it most, with some believing that love is life's greatest blessing, never hurting. It is my belief that Romeo and Juliet had a passionate commitment that never hurt, though costing dearly, with obstacles that proved it stronger. Love is everything at times when it is tested by the most obstacles. Romeo displays this when he meets Juliet yet again in the balcony scene. Romeo exhibits this and tells Juliet , "With love's light wings did I o'erperch these walls; For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, that...show more content... Of all of the categories, the love of Romeo and Juliet fits into ludus, a playful, youthful affection and pragma, more mature love. The lovers often flirt with each other, showing ludus to convey their youthful zeal. Romeo often displays this, such as when he says, "How silver sweet sound lovers' tongues by night , like softest music to attending ears!" (II,ii, 166–167). This excerpt from the balcony scene takes just a portion of their conversation in which they flirt playfully, which is ludus. Though pragma, the more mature love typically develops between long–term couples after a long period of time, Romeo and Juliet partially developed this genre of love. The two actively practiced good will, commitment, compromise, and understanding. The lovers acted more mature than their own parents by overcoming family name to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Mohammed was the only son of a Muslim sheik who owned many oilfields in Iran, while Julia was the daughter of a powerful oil–mining tycoon. The Fatah's and Smith's had been enemies as long as anyone could remember. If they happened to meet in the desert, they often fought. The sounds of gunfire would echo across the deserts almost daily. Through the years, many employees and family members had died at the hands of the other. One day, the Smith's company held a great party in the desert. The Muslim cleric agreed to marry them secretly, hoping they would end the family feud with their love. However, the next day, Julia's trigger–happy brother, John, encounters Mohammed in the desert. John had noticed Mohammed in disguise at the party last night, which he sworn revenge on Mohammed. Mohammed did not wish to fight, but there was no holding the furious John back. In the duel between them, John was killed with a single bullet in the head. Mohammed, charged with murder under Islamic law, is exiled. Julia, in another dilemma, asks the priest for advice. The priest gives her a potion which would allow her to fake her death, so she could escape with Mohammed. Mohammed, thinking Julia is dead rushes back to her "tomb," where she is "buried." Entering the tomb, he sees Julia's body and kills himself because he cannot live a life without his Julia. With his pistol, an extra body now rested in the tomb. A minute later, Julia awoke. Discovering the body of her Mohammed next to her, she, too, decides to suicide. From that day on, the Smith's and the Fatahs put aside their hatred. But for young Mohammed and Julia, the peace had come too late. Here ends the story of Mohammed and Julia. Friar's Defence Speech

  • 7. In the tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare displays an example of how teenage love can embrace the feelings of the young but also cause destruction, not only in their lives but also the people's lives around them. • 8. Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Essay Romeo and Juliet as a Tragedy Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy, which was written by William Shakespeare in 1599. The Elizabethans totally believed in fate, they believed that your destiny was fated. They also believed that fate was fickle, it could change, one day everything would be good and the next day things could be really bad. If you challenged fate, it would take up the challenge. If it wasn't fate there are many more things which could have caused the tragedy; the feud, this means that everything that happens in Verona ends in violence, Friar Lawrence, shouldn't have married them and shouldn't have suggested such a dangerous plan, which was playing with their lives, the Nurse should have...show more content... It is in this fight scene when fate starts to work against Romeo because when he steps in to stop the fight there is an accident and Mercutio gets killed. 'A plague a' both your houses! As the fighting breaks out, Benvolio tries to stop it by saying, 'Part, fools! Put up your swords; you know not what you do,' warning them to quit before things accelerate to a serious level. Benvolio thinks before he acts and is described as a peacemaker. On the other hand, Tybalt is seen as a hot–headed character, being impulsive and violent. • 10. The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet Essay The Deaths of Romeo and Juliet "Romeo and Juliet" is a tragic love story set in Verona, Italy in the late 1500s. It is a moving tale of two young people, Romeo and Juliet, who fall in love. The displeasure and anger of their feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets, who are long time enemies, however, complicate their love. The feud between the households, underlines the entire tragedy, and in my opinion it is one of the most responsible reasons for Romeo and Juliet's deaths. The play starts with a Prologue, which is an opening to the play. It was normal for plays written in this time to start with one. It gave the audience a brief summary of what was going to happen in the play. In...show more content... The feud was the setting of the tragedy. Without it, Romeo and Juliet would never have had to keep their marriage and love a secret. This is shown in the opening of the Prologue, "The fearful passage of their death mark'd love, And the continuous of their parents' rage, Which, but their children's' end nough could remove". The feud aggravated characters such as Mercutio and Tybalt to express anger towards their enemies, which ended in fights that ended in fatalities. When Tybalt saw Romeo at the party, he immediately wanted to kill him, and didn't stop to think that Romeo wasn't doing anything wrong. When Tybalt confronted Romeo, all Romeo wanted was peace. In his mind Romeo was a Montague and a Montague is and enemy. Tybalt wanted to kill Romeo because he thought it was disrespectful for Romeo and his friends to turn up to the Capulet's ball uninvited and not welcome. He sees this as the only way to seek revenge after; Romeo has humiliated his family by arriving at the rival family's ball. If the feud had not existed, then Tybalt would have had no reason to confront Romeo and to kill him. Hence, not starting a chain of events to lead to Romeo and Juliet's deaths. • 13. Romeo And Juliet Argumentative Essay Romeo and Juliet Argumentative Essay William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set in 16th century Verona, Italy. A play that relays the story of two young lovers whose ill–fated deaths end an ancient family feud. The two lovers, Romeo and Juliet, come from families who disapprove of their love. Their situation complicates as the play progresses, with an arranged marriage and several deaths. Romeo and Juliet both fall to the consequences of their secret marriage. Even from the beginning, their decisions were rash; especially from Romeo. Shakespeare use of various tactics in developing Romeo's character in the play. He shows that Romeo has an impulsive and emotional disposition. In the play Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is irrational. Firstly, after meeting Juliet for the first time, Romeo falls hopelessly in love. He climbs the wall to her orchard; he drops in where a guard of the Capulet household could have killed him. But he thinks he is on "love's light wings"(II.ii.30) When Juliet steps on her balcony, she scolds Romeo. But he tells Juliet that he would rather die than be without her love "And but thou love me, let them find me her... My life were better ended by their hate... Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love." (II.ii.80–83) Romeo has only known Juliet for barely a night and he is already in love with her. He already wants a future with Juliet without even trying to get to know her. This shows how quite irrational Romeo is because he's quick to judge. How does he Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Act One of 'Romeo and Juliet' by William Shakespeare does indeed immediately engage the audience. Shakespeare does this by using several language techniques to create an interesting opening scene. Shakespeare uses humour, action and romance all in Act One and it is this variation that keeps the audience's attention. The play begins with a prologue that is written in the form of a sonnet. The two servants poke fun at each other and use sexual innuendo to create an immediate sense of humour in the play. They begin by using wordplay to create humour on the first four lines and then move on to boasting to one another about their fighting skills. Sampson says, 'I strike quickly, being moved' to mean that he is quick to fight when he is angry. From line ten, the servants begin to use words with two meanings, one of which is sexual. Words like 'thrust', 'stir' (to have sex), 'stand' (have an erection) and 'maidenheads' (virginity) are used. Sampson and Gregory continue to use sexual innuendo to insult each other's manhood and brag about their own virility. Sampson says that ''t is known I [he] is a pretty piece of flesh' to mean he is an attractive man but Gregory replies insultingly by suggesting that he is not able to have an erection. This gives the play humour and grabs the audience's attention. Immediately after this, an argument breaks out between Sampson and Gregory and two servants of the Montague household. • 15. Loyalty in Romeo and Juliet Essay example Romeo and Juliet– Loyalty Loyalty plays a big part in Romeo and Juliet. Ties of loyalty are woven throughout the play, binding certain characters together. The main theme is the feuding families of Romeo and Juliet that holds an "ancient grudge" against each other: the Montague's and the Capulet's. Romeo's family and friends despise Juliet's family, the Capulet's, and as the play progresses you will find them defending each other in the face of an enemy. For example Juliets Nurse and Friar Laurence roles in the play affect both of their lives immensely. When Romeo is banished from Verona, Juliet does not follow him blindly. She makes a logical and heartfelt decision that her loyalty and love for Romeo will be her main priority, and she will do whatever it takes to make their love work. The moment Romeo realises he loves Juliet his loyalty becomes divided, between what he knows is right and what his heart says. As I've said before, loyalty had both positive and negative outcomes. Romeo and Juliet might not have met if it weren't for Romeo's friends urging him to gatecrash the ball. As he was loyal he did not argue, however he probably had an ulterior motive: to catch a glimpse of Rosaline, who he thought he was in love with. If Juliet's Nurse had not been devoted to Juliet, she would have told the Capulet's which could have resulted in Romeo and Juliet's end a lot sooner. On the other hand, you could argue that loyalty lead to both of their deaths, with the reasoning that had Romeo not been so attached to Mercutio he would not have killed Tybalt when Tybalt fatally injured Mercutio. If he had not slain Tybalt, he would not have been banned from Verona, and in turn they might have thought of a different plan than the one they eventually chose which was wrought with complications and took both of their lives. If Juliet had not trusted Friar Laurence so greatly, she might have thought of a more foolproof Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay on The Inner Struggles of Romeo and Juliet In the tragedy 'Romeo and Juliet', Shakespeare presents the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet, the two protagonists as one of the main themes. This is clearly shown at the end of Act 3 Scene 2 when Juliet receives the news that Romeo has been banished and Tybalt has been killed. Juliet is distraught at the conflict of her loyalties. Should she express love for her family or should she express love for Romeo? By using many different language features, such as oxymorons, paradox, antithesis and dramatic irony, Shakespeare effectively displays Juliet's conflicting emotions. Later in the play, Shakespeare uses the betrayal by adults to again show the inner struggles of Romeo and Juliet. In this passage from Act 3 Scene 2, Juliet waits for...show more content... / That villain cousin would have kill'd my husband" (3:2). This reflects the internal conflict of Juliet. Love, in 'Romeo and Juliet' has its own importance in the theme of inner struggle between the two protagonists, Romeo and Juliet. Juliet is torn between staying loyal to her family and therefore obeying her parents to marry Paris or staying married to an enemy, Romeo, "My husband lives, that Tybalt has slain; / And Tybalt's dad, that would have slain my husband: / All this is comfort; wherefore weep I then?" (3:2). On the other hand, Romeo has his struggles too. He juggles between the idea of banishment from Verona and not being able to see his beloved Juliet again and that of death, "Ha, banishment? Be merciful, say 'death'." (3:3). The secret marriage between Romeo and Juliet is also one of the outcomes due to love. It is because of love that Juliet risked her parents' disapproval to not marry Paris and Romeo risked the danger of being killed by Capulet's kinsmen to go to see her. Yet again, this shows the inner struggle of Romeo and Juliet. Adult betrayal of Romeo and Juliet is one of the key factors that lead to the inner struggles of the two protagonists. When Capulet and Lady Capulet marries Juliet off to Paris without discussing the matter with Juliet, Juliet refuses to do so causing Capulet to threaten to disown her if she does not give her consent, "I tell thee what, get thee to church a Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face."
