1. Grant Proposal for the Pimlico Fishery
and Family Restoration Organization
Sustaining Nature for Future Generations
2. Executive
Summary
Fishing is in decline at the main
community pond in Pimlico
Plantation
It is believed that this is due to
inadequate pond management
which has lead to poor fishing
results
3. The 57 acre pond was converted
from an old rice paddy and has
an average depth of 4 feet
The fish population is out of
balance with an overstock of
grass carp creating low
vegetation levels and dissolved
oxygen
4. Restoration
The restoration would include:
Restocking of fish
Proper testing and analysis for
fertilization
Re-shaping regional areas of the
pond bottom to meet fish ideal
environmental requirements
Implementation of a maintenance
plan budgeted out for 5 years to
establish a solid foundation
prosperity
5. Problem
Statement
The pond should be a place for
families to enjoy outdoor
activity but instead it has
become a depressing
wasteland
Fishing is a safe and healthy
outdoor activity which is not
being utilized
6. Reasons for the lack of Bass
It also has little to no cover for fish to seek
refuge
It lacks the proper shallows for the
encouragement of spawning
Finally the pond is missing the proper
balance of species
With that said the vegetation as well has
begun to deplete, which has a relation to the
lack dissolved oxygen in the water
7. Goals and Objectives
The real driving force behind this proposal is the rehabilitation of a bonding
family activity for years to come. The specific goals include:
100% participation within the community in volunteering to help throughout
project duration.
Produce healthy harvestable fish one-year post project completion.
Obtain a well-balanced ecosystem including proper chemistry.
Provide a plan for proper maintenance for the next 5 yrs.
Educate youth on importance of preserving the environment
8. Methodology
Steps to fully rehabilitate the
pond:
1. Reshape the pond’s terrain
2. Construct fish shelters
3. Make necessary changes to the
pond floor
4. Check and adjust for proper
chemical levels
5. Stocking the pond
9. Evaluation
Throughout the project there
will be several evaluation
points
Monitoring all aspect of pond,
education, end of phase
evaluations, progress reports,
chemistry monitoring, and
finally fertilization analysis
