Adam Taurus' weapons from RWBY, specifically his sword and gun sheath combination, inspire the main character's weapon in the author's game. The character will be able to absorb attack energy and release stronger attacks. The game will also feature pixel graphics like Shovel Knight and include hack-and-slash gameplay like Metal Gear Rising, with an emphasis on realistic sword attacks. There may be some blood effects when enemies are sliced. The side-scrolling design and difficulty takes influence from Shovel Knight and Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures.
2. Existing Product 1: RWBY
One small part of the anime RWBY that I've always
enjoyed are the weapons that the characters use, not least
of which is Adam Taurus' weapon, Wilt and Blush, which
are a sword (to be more specific, a chokutō, a straight,
one-edged Japanese sword) and a gun, which doubles as a
sheath for his sword. Adam uses these weapons in
conjunction with one another, along with his Semblance (a
unique ability that most characters in RWBY have) to do
several amazing things, such as delivering a sword-swing
and a gunshot to an opponent, in quick succession (top
left), shooting his sword out of his sheath with enough
force to knock a robot over (top middle), and absorb large
beams of energy, in order to send back the energy with
such power that a large spider-mech would be destroyed
with one swing of Adam's sword (top right).
I like Adam's weapon so much
that I've taken an interest in
including his weapon (or a
weapon similar to his) in my
video game project. My main
character would be able to
absorb the kinetic energy of
attacks (such as punches,
gunshots and lasers) and
output said energy in the form
of stronger attacks or possible
waves of energy, that would
deal more damage to enemies
than a regular sword-slash.
3. Existing Product 2: Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight is an indie side-scrolling platform game made my Yacht Club Games, in a
style inspired by gameplay and graphics of platformer games developed for the NES,
such as Castlevania, Duck Tales and Mega Man. The game is one of several games
(along with Undertale and Cave Story) that kicked off a renaissance of sorts that
included a lot of retro-inspired indie games coming out and becoming exceptionally
popular, such as A Hat in Time, Cuphead and Celeste.
In my video game project, I will include pixel graphics that are very similar to that of
Shovel Knight, as my game will be very similar to it, apart from the fact that it has a
hack-and-slash element to it, similar to games like Metal Gear Rising or God of War.
4. Existing Product 3: Metal Gear Rising
Metal Gear Rising is one of my favourite hack and slash video games,
mainly because of the story (which is full of political commentary),
fantastic music and, a lot, the accurate feeling of you using a sword
to cut through swathes of mindless (literally, in this game) enemies. I
hope that, if my game were to get made, that making the feeling of
using a sword (that the MC of the game will use) would be as
realistic as possible. It helps that Raiden (the main character of the
game) is a cool cyborg ninja character who wields an amazing sword.
5. Existing Product 4: AVGN Adventures
Based on the web series known as 'The Angry Video Game Nerd', this is a platformer
game very similar to Shovel Knight (mentioned earlier) in several ways, one of which
isn't the difficulty (with AVGN Aventures being MUCH harder). AVGN Adventures is
also a very gory game, and despite looking so retro, the game's gore is surprisingly
detailed (even if the gore isn't pictured, for obvious reasons). I would probably include
some form of blood when the enemies are sliced apart in the game. Not as much
blood or gore as AVGN Adventures (where the enemies spontaneously combust or
have their heads blown off and blood gushes from their necks), but possibly a line of
blood going along with the sword as the MC cuts an enemy in two, as well as a small
pool of blood below/around the corpses of the enemies.
6. Research Analysis
The researched products that I've detailed here are all things
that I really like, and have always wanted to use in a project of
my own, whether it's an animation, fanfiction or a video game,
like this project is. Existing products 2 and 4 (Shovel Knight and
AVGN Adventures) are both side-scrolling video games, which I
plan to emulate in my video game project by making it a side-
scrolling game, with elements of a hack-and-slash game (like
Existing Products 3 (Metal Gear Rising)).
