Leadership Styles And Leadership Skills
Leadership is a concept that people cannot grab. People assume that when you become a manager or a supervisor you are anointed with leadership
skills. John Maxwell, who has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies and has sold more than 25 million books thinks this about leadership
"Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another." (Maxwell, 1998) This leadership paper will cover
examples from my personal experience while evaluating the examples and if they were effective or appropriate. It will also cover the leadership style
that I most identify with and use an example to illustrate.
The majority of my life I have been employed by horrible people with worse leadership skills.
The owner/manager of the company had a regressive way of leadership now that I can reflect on the behavior not being in such a toxic environment.
Rue describes their directive leadership skills with the autocratic style correctly "focus primarily on successfully performing the work." (Rue, 2014, p.
282)
The autocratic style was exactly their approach. I was not aware there were even words already out there to describe this behavior besides the
derogatory ones that my coworkers and I would call them. A brief example of such wrong leadership ability was one employee forgot to put some
plaques on the truck. At this point in the season, which was over halfway finished, has not happened yet. This problem happened before in seasons
past, and we have

1. Introduction
The leadership abilities and competencies of a leader are integral parts to the success and effectiveness of their performance and their team and
followers. The development of these aspects of leadership is a dynamic process that includes a variety of interpersonal factors (Day, Fleenor, Atwater,
Sturm, & McKee, 2014). Such qualities like self–motivation is a requirement to the development of leadership skills in that "identity, meta–cognitive,
and self–regulation processes are thought to be crucial to the refinement of knowledge structures and information processing capabilities associated
with leadership expertise." (Day et al., 2014, p. 68) Self–regulation is of particular importance for goal–directed activities and adapting to change
(Karoly, 1993). Self–regulatory skills are taken for granted, and most people are not innately effective self–regulators (Latham & Locke, 1991) which
can factor into their leadership development. As well personality is said to have an impact on leader skill development and performance through
patterns (Mumford et al., 2000) and certain traits to be predictive of effectiveness (Day et al., 2014). What is also important is that Li, Arvey, and
Song (2011) "found self–esteem to be strongly predictive of leadership role occupancy across both genders as well as predictive of the rate of
leadership advancement for females" (Day et al., 2014, p. 76). All of these are significant underlining factors to leadership development for any

My Leadership Philosophy
1.A Leader is someone who people want to work for. They lookout for their people, yet hold them accountable. People follow them due to the respect
for the person and not because of their position or rank. They are respected both up and down the chain of command. Leaders are people not afraid to
make decisions. Sometimes the wrong decision is made, but a great leader learns from that move which helps on future decisions. To date, I have
gathered the good values from the leaders I respected and found a way to incorporate it into my leadership skills. I have also taken the bad principles
from leaders I didn't agree with and have made every effort not to do what they did. The best leaders I have worked for didn't always give an answer
or order right away; sometimes they would get back with the answer after some time to think on it.
2. When I made decisions at work for any tasking, I tend to complete it my way. I have no problems listening to others opinions if they are different
and occasionally, I will change my planning upon someone else's idea or thought. However, if I do think my idea isbetter, I will normally do it my way,
as I am the one who has to answer for it, at the end of the day. Referring to Ref (a) I have at least three areas in my leadership philosophy that could
use some tuning up. In the section titled "Model the way", I received a 7.9 feedback in "I ask for feedback on how my actions affect others people's
performance". In the category

Management and Leadership Skills Essay
Introduction
Management and leadership skills in nursing and other healthcare professions are becoming a more and more widely spoken of subject, as they are
essential skills for everyday practice in delivering care (Gopee and Galloway, 2009). Effective management requires the nurse to be able to draw on
evidence based knowledge and experience to develop the ability to manage competently during practice. Skills without knowledge, appropriate attitude
and understanding will not equate to competency (Watson, 2002).
This piece of work will critically explore the theories about management and leadership in health care. At the beginning it will provide a base
understanding of both topics and accountability importance. It will then concentrate...show more content...
However leadership, as suggested by Cook (2001), can be seen as a cost effective way to improve patient`s care in times of limited resources, as a
good leader can demonstrate certain behaviours and roles to influence others, as to empower others and provide direction and change. Faugier and
Woolnough (2002) support these ideas, but also believe that there is a difference between management and leadership, as they contrast managers to
be planners, where as leaders are looked upon as people who can communicate vision, motivate, inspire and empower in order to create organisational
change. Mullin's (2007) idea of leadership can be seen as the ability of one person to influence the behaviour or actions of other people.
Murphy (2005) maintains that leaders are accountable for helping their follower's to become efficient and support them to develop their strengths and
abilities. Distinguishing and categorising between different leadership styles can be done in several ways, (Gopee and Galloway, 2009). In this essay
traditional classification of authoritian (autocratic), democratic, permissive (laissez–faire) and bureaucratic styles of leaders will be discussed.
Accountability, as stated by Sullivan and Garland (2010) means accepting ownership for the results whatever they are. The NMC (2008) defines
accountability as an important part of professional practice as nurses and midwives often have to make judgements in a wide variety of circumstances,

Management Skill Builder
Introduction
Strong management and leadership is very crucial for business success. It helps in driving innovation, unlocking the potential of employees, as well as
enabling the manager to drive growth and productivity. It is never fast, and it is not always simple to build up depth and strength in management or
leadership capabilities. However, the possible benefits are vivid: increased performance and profitability, improved rates of survival, and better
employee wellbeing and motivation. It is important to keep in mind that entrepreneurs are creative and innovative thinkers who are always passionate
about latest ideas (Ellis, 2005). However, in a business, management skills are most essential for creation of a successful business that acts on ideas.
Management skills building is an ongoing process. Therefore, as a manger identify various ways of enhancing his or her management or leadership
capability, the manager should be cautious not to try changing a lot too fast. Steady, consistent, and gradual building of management skills with one
new idea implementation at a time will most likely result to a sustained improvement and change.

Reflection On Leadership Skills
Leadership Skills One of my favorite lectures for this course was the "leadership skills." This lecture caught my attention from the beginning to the
last second of it. It was very useful especially for the medical students because in the future they may become leaders for their medical health team at
their work or be leaders in their classes at the universities. Therefore, as a medical student I studied this lecture to improve my skills in the leadership
skill. In the past I didn't know how to treat the problems between the members in the group and how to influence and motivate the behavior of the other
members. However, after I had studied this lecture I learn many things. First thing I had learned was how to deal with the conflicts in the group by
doing some important things which are focusing on the process and not the people as the source of conflict, developing common team purposes and
values, emphasizing on collaboration, and recognizing that differences in the view points are inevitable and must be discussed openly. another thing I
had learned was how to motivate the members to contribute by treating everyone with respect and courtesy, making people feel appreciate for the work
they have done, making suggestions not demand, making people as though they are contributing something unique, and making sure all the members
of the group understand the discussion. I hope in the future all these skills can help to provide better quality care to the patient and

Leadership Traits
As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over
time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or
characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking,
intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Within this paper, I will examine the overall concept
of leadership traits, while observing the traits that were, or can be associated with successful leaders....show more content...
Leadership is an action not a position. With the proper personality, a leader can accomplish many things like knowledge of the organization. Being
able to handle all type of situations shows great leadership traits. According to (Hughes, Ginnett, and Curphy) the adjustment dimension of the Five
Factor Model of Personality "is concerned with how people react to stress, failure, or personal criticism" and it is important for leaders to develop
their response to this dimension. Leader trait research examined the physical, mental, and social characteristics of individuals. In general, these studies
simply looked for significant associations between individual traits and measures of leadership effectiveness. Physical traits such as height, mental
traits such as intelligence, and social traits such as personality attributes were all subjects of empirical research. (LEADERSHIP THEORIES AND
STUDIES)
When reflecting throughout America's history, two people in particular exemplified the essence of true leadership traits, Martin Luther King Jr. and
Nelson Mandela. While others displayed a vast variety of traits, Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Nelson Mandela displayed traits of leadership that
stood the test of time, and while today, their traits still influence, as well as affect people in today's society. Throughout his time as political activist, as

Essay on Leadership and Communication Skills
Communication skills and leadership go hand in hand. In order to lead a group and influence their completion of specific goals, one must be capable of
successfully communicating among ones peers. This is especially true in the healthcare industry. A leader who lacks effective communication skills is
unable to maintain camaraderie between their staff, due to misunderstanding and ineffective communication. This results in failed goals. Leadership in
the healthcare industry is vital not only to the organization, but also its staff, patients and visitors. According to early research, the process of
leadership should encompass certain traits and behaviors. The seven traits that proved to be consistently associated with leadership are: Drive,...show

It allows for the inspiration, organization, and implementation of a vision (Ginter, Duncan, & Swayne, 2013, p. 26). A company or organizational
vision is that company's framework for success. It allows all employees to see the "positive" in the future. It allows for camaraderie and for
achievement. Being a good leader and a role model allows for inspirational motivation–a vision. An effective leader relies on feedback from their peers
and does not become self–obsessed, but rather self–aware (Goleman, 2014). Jack Welch states "Nothing you do anymore as an individual matters
except how you nurture and support your team and help its members increase their self–confidence" (Welch & Welch, 2013, para. 3). Having self
knowledge and organizational knowledge are key characteristics of a quality leader. As General George Patton would say "Know what you know
and know what you do not know" (Power, 2014), then act as JFK did during the Cuban Missile Crisis and leave the room. He knew his presence was
intimidating as President and wanted to divert any stifling of ideas that would solve the Crisis so he literally vacated the room. He did so after
dividing the large group of experts who had diverse knowledge bases and opinions about the matter, into smaller groups, eliminating the chance of
groupthink (Sutton, 2014). Their self knowledge and organizational knowledge was spot on. Effective listening, verbal and nonverbal skills, trust,
understanding,

Leadership Self Assessment
Leadership takes on many faces depending on the responsibilities and environments that are available (Rubino, Esparza & Chassiakos, 2014).
However, some basic qualities are universal to all effective leaders. Emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills form part of crucial leadership
qualities (Parker, Sakfloske & Stough, 2009). Emotional intelligence, basically, refers to the ability of an individual to understand and interpret
emotions effectively. The paper is based on a self–assessment on leadership qualities. First, I am an individual who values all my responsibilities. I
believe that it is appropriate to be accountable for everything that I say or do. The fact that I take responsibilities seriously has enabled me to
achieve all my outlined tasks on time and within the deadline (My Strength Finder Report, 2014). Consequently, I have been able to gain the trust
of many of my colleagues everywhere I go. As a leader I can be accountable for all the people that I lead without regret or complains. Therefore,
whenever conflicts arise in my group of friends I try my best to find a solution and resolve the issue at hand. I strongly believe in harmony and the
ability of people to exist together with different views. Therefore, I have been able to control arguments and disagreements in group discussions. This
quality drives me to take charge and push for harmony whenever an argument ensues in group discussions (My Strength Finder Report, 2014). Thus, I
am able to

literally transform followers to achieve organizational goals beyond their self–interests thus initiating about positive change. They also introduce new
business models, products and services because of their ability to create new organizational visions, strategies, cultures, and structures through
committed followers. Transformational leaders positively change follower's lives, lifting spirits and even the commitment to ethics and morality
(Weiss, J. (2011) My preference would be a transformational leader because they deal more with the person rather than the task. They build
relationships with their team members, they encourage and motivate, and I think that their followers will get more work done because of the rapport
that is made with the team.

Leadership
Leadership is summarized as 'the process in which an individual impacts a variety of individuals to attain a common goal'. The goal is attained by
mutual collaboration and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and manages others to reach a specified goal.Leadership has had a
very profound influence throughout my life by affecting my family, friends, teammates, and the overall decisions that I have made. By using my
personal experiences with leadership, I have learned how to use these skills not only on the field, but throughout my everyday actions.
My personal experiences of leadership started when I was younger, roughly 7 years old, I was elected the captain of my travel soccer team. At the
time I didn't think much of it, nor did I have any extra duties that I was explicitly told that I needed to perform. Later throughout the season, I started
to notice my teammates mimicking my styles and techniques and I highly enjoyed this feeling of being looked up to. I didn 't realize until years
after that the recognition and pride I felt was leadership. This privilege of being captain was the first time I had realized that people weren 't
necessarily following my actions because I was extraordinarily skilled, but because I provided this role model status with my confidence and
encouragement. Some of the most valuable leaderships traits that I acquired and fortified are:

Leadership Competencies And Leadership Skills
The ability and strength of an individual to achieve goals by supervising processes, guiding initiatives and employees is defined as Leadership skills.
Valuable leadership skills include taking thoughtful decisions, allocation of resources, and the ability to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively.
Other leadership traits include honesty, confidence, commitment and creativity. Leadership competencies can be used to effectively select, develop
and promote leaders in an organization .The difference between Leadership Skill and leadership competency can explained as the required level of
efficiency to perform a task assigned is known as skill whereas the quality to accomplish the same is called as competency. When creating
leadership competencies certain factors are considered such as business strategies and future trends. To drive the use of competencies in selecting

Section 1: Interpersonal Skills for Leaders
Studies show that many leaders' failures are attributable to interpersonal skills such as building relationships, leading teams, developing a positive work
environment, effective communication and inspiring trust (Eblin, 2011). These skills become even more important when the basic element of the
business is the person. It is evident that leaders must master these skill sets to be successful as a leader in their industry.

Successful influencers have three characteristics (Hayes, 1991).
пЃ¶They have a clear vision of what they want to get accomplished. A sequence of events as all items may not be able to be accomplished. They

пЃ¶They pay attention to what needs to be done to bring about their proposal (Hayes, 1991). This leader is multi focused on both their strong areas and

пЃ¶They have the ability to get tasks done (Hayes, 1991). Successful leaders know what they want and have the ability to get the job done.
Leaders that are non–assertive find it difficult to succeed in management because they are unable to express their needs and influence others. Assertive
leaders articulate their needs and are able to influence team members to improve organizational success (Hayes, 1991).
Conflict Resolution Skills
Even the best leaders encounter different opinions on matters. These differences in opinions may lead to conflict within an organization. There are four
basic types of conflicts in organizations and one that specifically pertains to interpersonal leadership.

Building Leadership Skills Essay
Leadership is one of the most sought after skills in the professional world and a fantastic skill to possess outside the workplace. However, while
many people can give the dictionary definition of leadership not many understand what it truly means to be a leader. As Teddy Roosevelt said,
"People ask the difference between a leader and a boss...The leader works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the boss
drives." This quote captures the essence of what leadership truly is; leading a group to their common goal together rather than as a unit of people led
by one individual who only has their own interests in mind. Anyone can be a boss and tell people what they need to do to help the boss reach his
goal but a leader will...show more content...
One such trait is intuition (Buchanan) as being able to anticipate needs and problems ahead of time gives the leader a great advantage. Compassion
(Prive) is another trait often thought of as being a womanly trait–a lead needs to be willing to take people under his wing and help them become better
people and better members of the team. Along with compassion, patience and empathy (Buchanan) are other emotionally charged traits often
attributed to women that are very valuable when in a leadership position. Anyone who wants to be a great leader needs to be able to stay in tune
with the thoughts and feeling of the team in order to be successful. Leadership is not a one size fits all skill; there are several different styles of
leadership and each style has times where it may work better than another so knowing several styles of leadership is invaluable. The most common
style of leadership today is transformational, the transformational leader sells his ideas using reason and persuasion and is often a great communicator,
Abraham Lincoln is a well–known leader who employed this style. Another leadership style often seen today is democratic where the actions of the
group are determined by the desires of a majority of the group–one major downside to this style is it often takes time for the group to reach a consensus
and act upon the consensus. While on the surface the authoritarian style of leadership often used by people like Napoleon who are often remembered as

Leadership Styles And Leadership Qualities
The manager role can be challenging, and at times, they need to use ethical reasoning and decide which outcome is for the great good or causes the
least amount of harm.
There can be some shared traits between management and leadership, they both provide direction and the ability to influence the people around them.
They need to create an atmosphere where people are motivated to meet the goal, no matter if it is planned or unplanned. With that being said,
Yoder–wise differentiated leaders and managers when she stated, "Managers address complexity and change, whereas leaders primarily address
change" (2014).
The leadership style or a leadership I emulate; qualities I possess that make me an effective leader and qualities and factors that...show more content...
The Giltinane stated, "Emotionally intelligent leaders will not rush to fix, cure or control the responses of staff to change, but are empathetic to their
concerns, allowing people to express their feelings without judgment, pressure or guilt" (2013). In addition to being quick to adapt and change to a
situation as needed, I listen to the people around me. I imagine others would say that a strength of mine is to recognize the emotions of others and,
that I try to proceed in a manner that is appropriate for both the person and the situation. On my home care visit with a nurse, the patient asked if I
could explain the information because he found it easier to follow, and the nurse was unaware of when he was not comprehending what she was
saying. On this day, I saw the moment he was confused and took the opportunity to communicate with him in a way he was able to receive. Both the
nurse and the patient were grateful.
My personal example of using transformational style to accomplish a goal was through the Student Nursing Association (SNA). The SNA was trying
to raise money through a bake sale. Profits were slow and steady throughout the day. Close to the end of the bake sale, there was a significant portion
of the inventory left over. I suggested the idea that we should go around to the students rather than stay in one place. The students liked the idea but
were unsure of how to approach this situation. Through my

Leadership Styles And Leadership Skills

  • 1. Leadership Styles And Leadership Skills Leadership is a concept that people cannot grab. People assume that when you become a manager or a supervisor you are anointed with leadership skills. John Maxwell, who has worked with numerous Fortune 500 companies and has sold more than 25 million books thinks this about leadership "Leadership is not about titles, positions or flowcharts. It is about one life influencing another." (Maxwell, 1998) This leadership paper will cover examples from my personal experience while evaluating the examples and if they were effective or appropriate. It will also cover the leadership style that I most identify with and use an example to illustrate. 282) The autocratic style was exactly their approach. I was not aware there were even words already out there to describe this behavior besides the derogatory ones that my coworkers and I would call them. A brief example of such wrong leadership ability was one employee forgot to put some plaques on the truck. At this point in the season, which was over halfway finished, has not happened yet. This problem happened before in seasons past, and we have Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 3. 1. Introduction The leadership abilities and competencies of a leader are integral parts to the success and effectiveness of their performance and their team and followers. The development of these aspects of leadership is a dynamic process that includes a variety of interpersonal factors (Day, Fleenor, Atwater, Sturm, & McKee, 2014). Such qualities like self–motivation is a requirement to the development of leadership skills in that "identity, meta–cognitive, and self–regulation processes are thought to be crucial to the refinement of knowledge structures and information processing capabilities associated with leadership expertise." (Day et al., 2014, p. 68) Self–regulation is of particular importance for goal–directed activities and adapting to change (Karoly, 1993). Self–regulatory skills are taken for granted, and most people are not innately effective self–regulators (Latham & Locke, 1991) which can factor into their leadership development. As well personality is said to have an impact on leader skill development and performance through patterns (Mumford et al., 2000) and certain traits to be predictive of effectiveness (Day et al., 2014). What is also important is that Li, Arvey, and Song (2011) "found self–esteem to be strongly predictive of leadership role occupancy across both genders as well as predictive of the rate of leadership advancement for females" (Day et al., 2014, p. 76). All of these are significant underlining factors to leadership development for any Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Leadership Philosophy 1.A Leader is someone who people want to work for. They lookout for their people, yet hold them accountable. People follow them due to the respect for the person and not because of their position or rank. They are respected both up and down the chain of command. Leaders are people not afraid to make decisions. Sometimes the wrong decision is made, but a great leader learns from that move which helps on future decisions. To date, I have gathered the good values from the leaders I respected and found a way to incorporate it into my leadership skills. I have also taken the bad principles from leaders I didn't agree with and have made every effort not to do what they did. The best leaders I have worked for didn't always give an answer or order right away; sometimes they would get back with the answer after some time to think on it. 2. When I made decisions at work for any tasking, I tend to complete it my way. I have no problems listening to others opinions if they are different and occasionally, I will change my planning upon someone else's idea or thought. However, if I do think my idea isbetter, I will normally do it my way, as I am the one who has to answer for it, at the end of the day. Referring to Ref (a) I have at least three areas in my leadership philosophy that could use some tuning up. In the section titled "Model the way", I received a 7.9 feedback in "I ask for feedback on how my actions affect others people's performance". In the category Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Management and Leadership Skills Essay Introduction Management and leadership skills in nursing and other healthcare professions are becoming a more and more widely spoken of subject, as they are essential skills for everyday practice in delivering care (Gopee and Galloway, 2009). Effective management requires the nurse to be able to draw on evidence based knowledge and experience to develop the ability to manage competently during practice. Skills without knowledge, appropriate attitude and understanding will not equate to competency (Watson, 2002). This piece of work will critically explore the theories about management and leadership in health care. At the beginning it will provide a base understanding of both topics and accountability importance. It will then concentrate...show more content... However leadership, as suggested by Cook (2001), can be seen as a cost effective way to improve patient`s care in times of limited resources, as a good leader can demonstrate certain behaviours and roles to influence others, as to empower others and provide direction and change. Faugier and Woolnough (2002) support these ideas, but also believe that there is a difference between management and leadership, as they contrast managers to be planners, where as leaders are looked upon as people who can communicate vision, motivate, inspire and empower in order to create organisational change. Mullin's (2007) idea of leadership can be seen as the ability of one person to influence the behaviour or actions of other people. Murphy (2005) maintains that leaders are accountable for helping their follower's to become efficient and support them to develop their strengths and abilities. Distinguishing and categorising between different leadership styles can be done in several ways, (Gopee and Galloway, 2009). In this essay traditional classification of authoritian (autocratic), democratic, permissive (laissez–faire) and bureaucratic styles of leaders will be discussed. Accountability, as stated by Sullivan and Garland (2010) means accepting ownership for the results whatever they are. The NMC (2008) defines accountability as an important part of professional practice as nurses and midwives often have to make judgements in a wide variety of circumstances, using their Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Reflection On Leadership Skills Leadership Skills One of my favorite lectures for this course was the "leadership skills." This lecture caught my attention from the beginning to the last second of it. It was very useful especially for the medical students because in the future they may become leaders for their medical health team at their work or be leaders in their classes at the universities. Therefore, as a medical student I studied this lecture to improve my skills in the leadership skill. In the past I didn't know how to treat the problems between the members in the group and how to influence and motivate the behavior of the other members. However, after I had studied this lecture I learn many things. First thing I had learned was how to deal with the conflicts in the group by doing some important things which are focusing on the process and not the people as the source of conflict, developing common team purposes and values, emphasizing on collaboration, and recognizing that differences in the view points are inevitable and must be discussed openly. another thing I had learned was how to motivate the members to contribute by treating everyone with respect and courtesy, making people feel appreciate for the work they have done, making suggestions not demand, making people as though they are contributing something unique, and making sure all the members of the group understand the discussion. I hope in the future all these skills can help to provide better quality care to the patient and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Leadership Traits Essay example Leadership Traits As a growing debate, the question at hand is whether great leaders are born with specific leadership traits, or if one can be taught certain traits over time. According to (Wikipedia.com) the approach of listing leadership qualities, often termed "trait theory of leadership", assumes certain traits or characteristics will tend to lead to effective leadership. I believe that leadership traits such as honest, competent, initiative, inspiring, hardworking, intelligent, and the ability to lead the masses, are some of the leadership traits one should possess. Leadership is an action not a position. With the proper personality, a leader can accomplish many things like knowledge of the organization. Being able to handle all type of situations shows great leadership traits. According to (Hughes, Ginnett, and Curphy) the adjustment dimension of the Five Factor Model of Personality "is concerned with how people react to stress, failure, or personal criticism" and it is important for leaders to develop their response to this dimension. Leader trait research examined the physical, mental, and social characteristics of individuals. In general, these studies simply looked for significant associations between individual traits and measures of leadership effectiveness. Physical traits such as height, mental traits such as intelligence, and social traits such as personality attributes were all subjects of empirical research. (LEADERSHIP THEORIES AND STUDIES) When reflecting throughout America's history, two people in particular exemplified the essence of true leadership traits, Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. While others displayed a vast variety of traits, Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Nelson Mandela displayed traits of leadership that stood the test of time, and while today, their traits still influence, as well as affect people in today's society. In order to lead a group and influence their completion of specific goals, one must be capable of successfully communicating among ones peers. This is especially true in the healthcare industry. A leader who lacks effective communication skills is unable to maintain camaraderie between their staff, due to misunderstanding and ineffective communication. This results in failed goals. Leadership in the healthcare industry is vital not only to the organization, but also its staff, patients and visitors. An effective leader relies on feedback from their peers and does not become self–obsessed, but rather self–aware (Goleman, 2014). Jack Welch states "Nothing you do anymore as an individual matters except how you nurture and support your team and help its members increase their self–confidence" (Welch & Welch, 2013, para. 3). He knew his presence was intimidating as President and wanted to divert any stifling of ideas that would solve the Crisis so he literally vacated the room. He did so after dividing the large group of experts who had diverse knowledge bases and opinions about the matter, into smaller groups, eliminating the chance of groupthink (Sutton, 2014). • 15. Leadership Self Assessment Leadership takes on many faces depending on the responsibilities and environments that are available (Rubino, Esparza & Chassiakos, 2014). However, some basic qualities are universal to all effective leaders. Emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills form part of crucial leadership qualities (Parker, Sakfloske & Stough, 2009). Emotional intelligence, basically, refers to the ability of an individual to understand and interpret emotions effectively. The paper is based on a self–assessment on leadership qualities. First, I am an individual who values all my responsibilities. I believe that it is appropriate to be accountable for everything that I say or do. The fact that I take responsibilities seriously has enabled me to achieve all my outlined tasks on time and within the deadline (My Strength Finder Report, 2014). Consequently, I have been able to gain the trust of many of my colleagues everywhere I go. As a leader I can be accountable for all the people that I lead without regret or complains. Therefore, whenever conflicts arise in my group of friends I try my best to find a solution and resolve the issue at hand. I strongly believe in harmony and the ability of people to exist together with different views. Therefore, I have been able to control arguments and disagreements in group discussions. This quality drives me to take charge and push for harmony whenever an argument ensues in group discussions (My Strength Finder Report, 2014). Thus, I am able to Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Leadership Has Changed My Life Leadership Adam Tobias Davenport University– Student Leadership Leadership is summarized as 'the process in which an individual impacts a variety of individuals to attain a common goal'. The goal is attained by mutual collaboration and cohesive behavior. A leader infuses a sense of positivity and manages others to reach a specified goal.Leadership has had a very profound influence throughout my life by affecting my family, friends, teammates, and the overall decisions that I have made. By using my personal experiences with leadership, I have learned how to use these skills not only on the field, but throughout my everyday actions. My personal experiences of leadership started when I was younger, roughly 7 years old, I was elected the captain of my travel soccer team. At the time I didn't think much of it, nor did I have any extra duties that I was explicitly told that I needed to perform. Later throughout the season, I started to notice my teammates mimicking my styles and techniques and I highly enjoyed this feeling of being looked up to. I didn 't realize until years after that the recognition and pride I felt was leadership. This privilege of being captain was the first time I had realized that people weren 't necessarily following my actions because I was extraordinarily skilled, but because I provided this role model status with my confidence and encouragement.
