Gained editing, hardware, planning skills
1. What have you learnt
about technologies
from the process of
constructing this
product?
2. Editing Software
For my final project I used Final Cut Express to edit my video and its safe to say
I gained a lot of experience during this procedure. I now know how to colour
correct, order video clips, add effects and sound, as well as creating meaning for
the audience using editing.
3. Hardware
I successfully used hardware (camera lenses, tripod, etc.).
This equipment allowed me to improve the quality of my
shots – I could choose what I wanted to focus on using
different lenses and could improve the stability using a
tripod. This resulted in a better production value for the
end product, making it look more to the same standards as
the industry. However, being on a low budget means the
equipment wasn’t as high tech as used by the industry,
meaning that some of the shots aren’t as crisp and as
uniform as I would of liked. I believe is more technological
limitation, than human error. Therefore, there was little to
do to improve the standard.
4. The Stages of production
Planning: I used a variety of technologies to plan the narrative and
shot types for my opening scene, for example Photoshop and good
old fashioned pen & paper.
Organisation: social media (Facebook Messenger) helped me to
organise where and when I was going to meet with the rest of my
production crew.
Production: the use of a tripod and GoPro body mount allowed me
to get bigger variety of shots, resulting in more interest, making the
visual effect more successful.
Post-Production: editing allowed me to expand the meaning of the
raw footage, through ordering and colour correcting (after the
discovery of the corpse the colour is darker and blue, to represent
the cold body in the undergrowth).
