Positive Attitude In A Student Leader
Having a positive attitude is an extremely important part of being a leader. Not only do you get great benefits from having a positive attitude, but
others will be more likely to follow you. For me, a positive attitude has helped in student council. It has helped me to deal with the stress of being a
member and of being the president. But it is not always easy to have a positive attitude, I had to work really hard to get it. Three strategies have
helped me to maintain a positive attitude and they are not that hard to do. First, I try to surround myself with positive people who encourage and
not discourage me. Second, I look for the good in every situation because no matter how bad things may seem, there is always at least one thing to
smile about. Lastly, I try to assume the best rather than the worst. This can be hard, I have failed at it many times and it has ended badly. It would
have ended better if I had simply assumed the best. It is ok if you do not always succeed, but do not let that disappointment take away your positive
attitude. Just keep trying and just keep smiling. First of all, I want to discuss what having a positive attitude will do for you. Having a positive
attitude can benefit you in so many ways. For me, it has helped me to survive in student council and it has helped me to be a strong leader as president
of the student body. Being in student council and being president can get to be pretty stressful sometimes, there are students who love to

What Leadership Means to Me Essay
My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader
must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able
to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in
their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire
and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of selfā€“study, education, training, and

The way in which I communicate either builds or can harm the relationship between my soldier and I. When an important moment of discussion
arises, I am always prepared to appropriately handle the situation at hand. More than anything else, I believe as a leader it is always important to
have great social skills in order to be communicative with clarity and objectiveness, and to have a good relationship with the ones I lead. As a
leader, I understand the meaning of recognition and praise when one is doing a good job, which too is significantly important. A leader is not
always the first to have an idea, but should be the one who is always seeking out new solutions. One way of being a productive leader is
discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. If a soldier is demonstrating a bad attitude because he feels
that he can not accomplish a task then my job as a leader, would be to steadily encourage that soldier to work at being all that he can be. A leader to
me, does not need to always know the answer, but believes it to be important to have the initiative to make an answer appear. One form of bad
leadership would be an NCO performing or demonstrating a task that he knows nothing about in front of his soldiers. In the result of the NCO not
performing or demonstrating the task at hand correctly, the soldiers then become incapable of knowing the proper ways of that task. However, if that
NCO had

ASB Student Leadership Analysis
Over the past four years, I have devoted a major amount of my time to being active in the ASB Student Government program at my school, under
many different officer positions that have each allowed me to grow in numerous scopes of leadership. Looking back, it is evident that all my work
within ASB has revolved around in battling one major challenge: the lack of inclusiveness within our community. One of the major obstacles that we
face in a populous campus of 3300 is the problem of students feeling like they do not belong. Also, the high school shows minimal interaction with the
citizens of our community. As a leader, I set out to be the catalyst, by committing to promote a positive change inschool culture.
Determined, I set out to lead

Student Leadership Reflection
Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about my strengths. At first, I had no clue what they were. I also had no clue that they can help explain
why certain people work well in a group together or why they don't. My strengths have helped me adjust to life as a college student and even helped
me to figure out what I want to do after my college career is over. Events like the Heritage Project, The Student Leadership book, the networking event,
and even the peer mentor presentations gave me a lot to think about when considering my future. This class has helped me develop my leadership skills
and grow as an Otterbein student by allowing me to better understand myself.
Throughout this semester I have encountered many different situations that I have never experienced before. I wasn't hesitant about starting college
but once I got here I found it a little overwhelming. I didn't know about many of the resources that are on campus and classes were very different
from what I expected them to be. FYS Goal one, found on the strengths reflection paper guidelines is, "To connect you to the resources that promote
belonging, wellness, personal development, and success in the first year". I feel as though FYS 1025 has helped me meet that goal because I now
know about many of the resources centers here. I learned about them through Jordan's peer mentor moments, whether she was talking about the Center
for Student Success or the CCPD. Jordan's peer mentor moments helped me locate the different resource around campus and even understand what
they were about. Even though I haven't been to some of them, I was able to help people not in our class find them and know what those resources are
about. This has helped me grow as a student because it increases my familiarity with campus and allows me to know that if I have a question there are
people that can provide me with information.
The course has developed me as a future leader at Otterbein by helping me understand myself. In the beginning I didn't know about strengths. Now that
I do, I see why they are important when beginning a new chapter in life. Before starting a project, I now think about how I'm going to accomplish my
goals. I use my strategic strength to plan out

"Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal a commitment to excellence that will
enable you to attain the success you seek". ā€“Mario Andretti
Leadership is the process of motivating others to work to meet specific goals and objectives. A leader motivates others to action. Thus, it is the
motivation of others and their actions that defines a successful leader. In other words, leadership is the art and science of getting others to perform
and achieve a vision. Therefore, leadership is not only reflected in performance, no matter how good that performance is, but in accomplishment. As a
leader one 's focus should be on accomplishing that leadership goals, whether in a personal, community or charitable, business, political, or industrial
forum. In the business world, managers have a great responsibility of leading employees working under them. In order to achieve successful
leadership, a leader or a manager should possess certain principles and essential skills.
This essay will firstly start by defining the key terms, leadership and motivation. Next the essay will give a literature review and move on to
analytically explore the leadership and motivation in cross cultural experiences. In doing so, the motivational theories will be explained in a
summarized manner. Finally, the essay will be concluded with the findings from several different studies on motivation and leadership.

My experience in the student leadership program was interesting and informative. These are two descriptive words that stand out in my mind about the
whole program. There were times in the student leadership program when I questioned myself about being part of the class, but I overcame this once I
reflected on the many things that we have learned. From the guest speakers to the projects, the class has always kept me thinking.
First, the program was very informative. I took in so much information over the course of the semester that I sometimes feel overwhelmed, but in a
good way. From learning how to speak in public to overcoming the potential barrier of diversity, the class informed me on how to become a successful

With so many leaders expressing their feelings and ideas, I thought that opinions would start ethical wars. To mysurprise, everyone in the class
respected each other's ideas because everyone realized that we are all important to each other's growth as leaders.
The thing that stood out to me the most was the importance and impact of certain guest speakers. Dr. Derek Lane is one in particular that stood out in
my mind. His presentation was about risk taking and different leadership styles. He went over how important it was for leaders to sometimes take
risks to gain credibility and attention from their followers. I am a strong believer in that aspect of leadership and it helped reassure my own
confidence in my style of leadership. The different leadership styles that he expressed helped me develop a sense of where I fall into place in the
leadership realm. It explains why I do certain things when I am leading and helps me restrain myself from making mistakes that clash with my
leadership style. Ms. Mildred Bailey's presentation on diversity was also very exceptional. She gave us examples on how to deal with diversity in a
positive manner. In leadership, diversity must be addressed so a problem is not created. Her examples on life situations and other leadership roles put
the class in a relaxing atmosphere that let us speak out about our diversity experiences and problems. I now feel more comfortable and confident that I

ASB: Student Leadership
In the span of my high school experience, I've always been involved in Student Leadership, otherwise known as ASB. In the midst of being in this
class, an ongoing mission has always been to create a better school culture, and to positively impact the student body of Savanna. For my first two
years of high school, I was president of my class, and with this job at hand, I led my class through several school wide events, and organized events
that bonded our class together. I felt that I was very successful with fulfilling my duties as class president for the first two years of my high school
experience. However, after these two years of only leading my class, I decided to run for a position that ultimately led the whole school. As an upcoming

Student leadership training should include involving teens in youth leadership clubs.
Do your teens have plenty of leadership potential, but not an avenue in which to develop it? Youth leadership clubs provide high school students with a
structure in which they can practice and nurture their high school leadership skills.
Untapped Potential
Sarah is your typical teenager. She goes to school, is on the volleyball team, and is considering running for an office in student government. Recently,
her student leadership teacher suggested that she join a youth leadership club.

Student Leadership As A Student Leader
1. There are student leaders for those to have an experience gained from a leadership role, which will be valuable for a lifetime. A student leader is
nevertheless faced with several obstacles in the learning environment that encourage handsā€“on experience. They teach skills such as planning,
decisionā€“making, communicating, and working as teammates are all skills that will build as a student leader since it is something that students may
not receive in classrooms often. When receiving leadership positions is the moment for students to exert their voice from a place of impact. Students
can put into action changes that will impact the school positively and improve the student organization which anyone contributes. These leadership

Regardless of the possibility that we may need to remain after practices to help those needing help I 'm willing to do as such. My strengths are that I
have an ambition for band, I am confident, I am committed to everything that I do and I am a great multitasker. My weaknesses are that I can be shy at
certain times.
Qualities that I possess that would make me an effective leader are:
Communication Skillsā€“ I always try and display a positive and enthusiastic attitude for others even when I am not feeling the best.
Work Ethicā€“ I work hard in everything that I do and I never give up no matter the challenge, Hard work is the basic building block of every kind of
achievement.
Sensitivity in working with peersā€“ I understand that certain members of the marching band may take more time than others to learn how to march or
play their music. I understand that I must motivate and not dictate. I will be willing to help these peers after practices or even on weekends to ensure
that they can get what they are aiming for.
Understanding Leadershipā€“ I understand that I am to do what is right when no one is watching and stay true to the band and schools values.
Personal Responsibilityā€“ I understand that I will be held accountable for whatever responsibility any of the adults ask me to do. I understand that I
will need to get done whatever it is as quickly as possible. Even if that means settling disputes

Student Leadership Program Analysis
In my time in the Student Leadership Program I have seen many passive programs that were innovative and unique and focused on diversity, social
justice, and community, but I believe that the passive program that has stood out most to not only me but to the entire population of Student
Leadership Program would be the Recognition Tree. This program was created by the National Residence Hall Honorary Vice President of
Recognition Andrew Miller as something fun, to try and get students more engaged with recognition. In order to do this, he created what w call the tree
with some branches that he found, then he printed some leaves and placed everything on a table and from there the recognition tree was born. The first
time that the recognition tree...show more content...
Not only did this allow the members of the National Residence Hall Honorary and the senators from the Residence Hall Honorary bond with one
another, but they were able to explore and question the deeper meaning of recognition. With this program the executive boards of both the Residence
Hall Honorary and the National Residence Hall Honorary saw more people from both organizations coming into the office to fill out a leaf for the
Recognition tree and to talk about recognition as well as other things that pertained to both of the organizations such as being on the executive board,
getting inducted into National Residence Hall Honorary, bills, and of the month awards. With more people coming into the StudentLeadership
Program Office the executive cabinet actually felt as if they were sitting in the office for a purpose especially since they had residents coming to visit
them more frequently. Today the recognition tree not only sits in the Student Leadership Program Office but it also makes an occasional trip to the
National Residence Hall Honorary meetings on Wednesday nights that way anyone that does not have time to come into the office can come and put a
leaf on the Recognition tree at the end of the meeting while everyone is

Leaders come forth depending on the kind of situation, in which they are need. This type of leadership is typically known as "situational
leadership," where the key concept is every situation is different, so each situation requires a specific, unique leader. For a person to be a great
leader, one does not have to necessarily assume a "bossy" persona, which is stereotypically characterized with all leaders, but being a leader based on
listening. Being this background leader is known to many as, "servant leadership." Servant and situational leadership is how I can characterize my
leadership style so far since I have joined the student leadership community at Hillwood High School. Last school year, when I picked up an

Bennis favors working out conflicts, while Cronin suggests creating conflict. Creating conflict? That struck me as odd, considering, in my mind,
leaders always resolved conflicts. Relating to my previously mentioned theory before, a leader with various traits are needed for individual
situations, with a person specialized in creating conflict, can be useful in a leadership setting, because concocting conflict can lead to an overall
result of resolution on a problem. In this case, a rift occurred during our attempt at constructing a leadership project and the project mangers created
conflict by putting all the animosity, confusion, and frustration on the table for us, as a class, to discuss. Therefore, as a class, sorted through all our
problems, and created compromises to implement for our future leadership class projects. Likewise, creating conflict can have a beneficial outcome,
if done correctly and with the right intent in mind. To fully call oneself a leader, volunteer service is an essential building block in building leadership
character. Before leadership class, I volunteered, just seldom. In August, I began my service to the community, by waking up at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday
at the L.P. Pencil Box, which offers teacher and administers with free school supplies. There I sorted supplies, helped count inventory, stock shelves,
and assist customers. In brief, I assisted in all the manual labor involved in operating a miniā€“store, but above all, I

Student Leadership Application

I would like to be a member of the Student Academy Leadership team because I think I'd make a good head boy and I'd do everything I can to make
a difference to the academy and improve anything that needs to be improved. I am only in year 7 meaning I'm not too familiar with the Academy but
so far I love it. I think our school is outstanding and it's an honour to be able to attend the Acaemy as a student. I believe I have the skills and the

To organise any events or fulfil the duties I would happily spend some of my break. I will take the time out of my days to catch up in my studies
and organise any events instead of watching TV. Even though I will try to fit everything in and not just stay at home all day watching TV I would
still give myself some free time so I don't get stressed out or overworked. I would also be prepared and ask for deadlines to make sure I do the
tasks on time. I may even make a routine for myself for example when I get home at around 4, I could change, eat and shower at a certain and then
spend a few hours on revising and homework, then spend some time on fulfilling my responsibilities as a student leader.
6. Which public figurehead/leader is inspirational to you and why?
My inspirational leader would be Nelson Mandela, Nelson Mandela was a very important leader in history, and he sacrificed most of his life for
equal rights and opportunities to black people. Nelson Mandela was the first black South African President and fought to stop racism. Mandela was
imprisoned in 1962; he spent 27 years in prison simply to save millions of people from slavery. For that reasons he is my hero and my inspirational
leader, he inspires me to be a better person and lead students in a good

College And University Leadership Program Essay
INTERVIEW WITH DR. PATRICIA MCDONALD
When it comes to the topic of making a difference in the lives of students, most of us will readily agree that it can be very gratifying when college and
university leaders inspire students and impact their lives, while developing them into future leaders.
It is believed that making a difference in the lives of student is a shared effort that cannot be done alone even the smallest act of kindness can impact
the world if people come together. A future desirable outcome, hoping to be accomplished from the Leadership program, is to make a difference in the
lives of people and making an impact.
In addition to a shared effort, when we make small deposits of effort in an attempt to make a difference, collectively, we are adding to the bigger
picture of transforming lives, which will inspire movement towards achievement, in my opinion is leadership.
As a graduate student in the Masters of Art, Higher Education Leadership program, the career and educational goal being explored is to develop the
knowledge to help people achieve something to enrich their lives.
ABOUT THE INTERVIEW
The interview was recorded via voice recorder using a cell phone, and the duration of the interview lasted 35 minutes. The quoted answers from Dr.
McDonald were several seconds into her response to the questions. When editing this paper, only small sections of quoted responses were pulled out
from her answers for the purpose of this assignment, meaning

Student Leadership Essay
There are many positions that high school students can occupy that are considered student leadership positions. They can be teachers' assistants,
football captains, cheerleading captains, or student body presidents. All of these require students to be of good character and strong mind. However,
none of these can compare to the demands on the drum major. The drum major is the student leader of the band, and he is, at the same time, a role
model, a teacher, a friend to all, an excellent musician, a performer, a liaison between the band and the director, the director's chief "gopher," and the
chief morale officer. The drum major leads the marching band in the halftime show and during rehearsals, but as the above list demonstrates,

I had to conduct to a piece of my choosing, call out simple commands, and sing and conduct "The Star Spangled
Banner." It was a nerve racking experience, but I did well, and I made it. I was ecstatic. I was the only junior that made it, along with two seniors. I
went to Drum Major Academy that summer, which deserves two full pages of description. My comrades and I picked out our own uniform. I bought
a whistle, gloves, and a handful of other things. I was ready to lead a group of two hundred of my peers, or so I thought.
Preband is what we call the two weeks before school starts when the band practices four hours every morning in preparation for the season. In the
week prior to preband, I went to church camp in Panama City, Florida, and unfortunately, I broke my toe. I will not describe how I accomplished
that task as it is a source of much shame for me. I was very disappointed because my golden vision of what preband was going to be was tarnished,
but I soldiered on, and made it limping through. I learned many things during those two weeks about perseverance. I didn't let my disability get in the
way, and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I just did what I could to the best of my ability, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
It was when the school year started that the lessons really started coming. The lessons that I learned as a Drum Major are lessons that come only with
experience in a leadership position. One

Leaders in the Classroom
Š’Ā¬Student Leadership Student leaders come in all shapes and sizes. They choose to lead based on their skills and preferences. Whether in social
groups, athletics, or within the classroom, student leaders demonstrate certain traits that benefit both themselves and those they are leading. Generally
speaking, leaders are classified as role models within the student body. They are the students who challenge the status quo, who ask questions and
demand answers. They inspire athletic teams and social organizations alike; they bring to light the issues that an organization or club faces and work
toward a solution. The traits and skills that these leaders exhibit socially, athletically, and academically can be both inherit and learned. The...show more

He told us to imagine the start of the race, the middle of the race, and then crossing the finish line. He told us not to imagine the other boats, just us
as if we were in practice. After that he had us carry our boat down and we were all silent. We rowed up to the starting line and prepared ourselves
for the hardest thing in our life. I honestly can't tell you what happened during the race because I completely just focused on the task at hand. We
ended up finishing in second even though we were expected to finish in last. It was one of my favorite team experiences to be a part of. But how
did my captain compare to other great leaders in sports such as Michael Jordan? Michael Jordan is arguably one of the greatest leaders in history,
not just sports. He led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships. (Shulman, 1965) He wasn't a great leader for his abilities on the court, but also
how he presented himself off the court. He would stay after games and practice to fine tune his skills, and participate in various charity events.
Michael Jordan wasn't just a leader; he was a role model. That is what defines a great leader, someone who you can look up to as a role model. One
can then pose the question, how can the leadership skills demonstrated in coā€“curricular activities affect the classroom environment? In recent years, the
interest in leadership development has surfaced as part of the curriculum. There has been an

What I Learned in My Leadership Class
Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said
that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were
well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no
strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and
underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my selfā€“assessment
compares to the perception of others. I think this class was a good mix of both theoretical concepts as well as practical applications for discussion.
Something I enjoyed the most and benefited greatly was the application of various leadership models, theories and character comparisons to personal
life applications. Leadership exists in all facets of life and it is important to understand some of the several well researched theories and look for
opportunities to apply them in life. The ropes course was strategically scheduled in the beginning of the class to get to know everyone outside the
classroom atmosphere and it presented some real time opportunity to demonstrate leadership ability. Since this is a class which involves a lot of

A.)Briefly explain why you want to be a Student Leader, what you can gain and contribute to the program.
In high school I was always the student going "above and beyond" everyone else. In many situations I would take the initiative to "super head"

students were focused on being in the "in crowd", this left me feeling alone and not having anyone to relate to. When I stepped foot on Hampton
University's campus and saw the Student Leaders during New Student Orientation Week, I immediately knew that I wanted to be apart of the
organization. Within the students I saw qualities that I also embodied, I also saw a group of hardworking students who are ready to succeed and take

Positive Attitude In A Student Leader

  • 1. Positive Attitude In A Student Leader Having a positive attitude is an extremely important part of being a leader. Not only do you get great benefits from having a positive attitude, but others will be more likely to follow you. For me, a positive attitude has helped in student council. It has helped me to deal with the stress of being a member and of being the president. But it is not always easy to have a positive attitude, I had to work really hard to get it. Three strategies have helped me to maintain a positive attitude and they are not that hard to do. First, I try to surround myself with positive people who encourage and not discourage me. Second, I look for the good in every situation because no matter how bad things may seem, there is always at least one thing to smile about. Lastly, I try to assume the best rather than the worst. This can be hard, I have failed at it many times and it has ended badly. It would have ended better if I had simply assumed the best. It is ok if you do not always succeed, but do not let that disappointment take away your positive attitude. Just keep trying and just keep smiling. First of all, I want to discuss what having a positive attitude will do for you. Having a positive attitude can benefit you in so many ways. For me, it has helped me to survive in student council and it has helped me to be a strong leader as president of the student body. Being in student council and being president can get to be pretty stressful sometimes, there are students who love to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. What Leadership Means to Me Essay My idea of leadership is being able to inspire others, motivate, set a vision, communicate, respect others, and of course, lead by example. A leader must have an honest understanding of who they are, what they know, and what they are capable of. To be a successful leader, you have to be able to convince your followers, not just yourself or your superiors, that you are worthy of being followed. In my opinion, this can build confidence in their followers to have faith in you, in order to be able to lead. I strongly believe that good leaders are made rather, and not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders are developed through a never ending process of selfā€“study, education, training, and ...show more content... The way in which I communicate either builds or can harm the relationship between my soldier and I. When an important moment of discussion arises, I am always prepared to appropriately handle the situation at hand. More than anything else, I believe as a leader it is always important to have great social skills in order to be communicative with clarity and objectiveness, and to have a good relationship with the ones I lead. As a leader, I understand the meaning of recognition and praise when one is doing a good job, which too is significantly important. A leader is not always the first to have an idea, but should be the one who is always seeking out new solutions. One way of being a productive leader is discovering new ways to accomplish a set of tasks while maintaining a positive attitude. If a soldier is demonstrating a bad attitude because he feels that he can not accomplish a task then my job as a leader, would be to steadily encourage that soldier to work at being all that he can be. A leader to me, does not need to always know the answer, but believes it to be important to have the initiative to make an answer appear. One form of bad leadership would be an NCO performing or demonstrating a task that he knows nothing about in front of his soldiers. In the result of the NCO not performing or demonstrating the task at hand correctly, the soldiers then become incapable of knowing the proper ways of that task. However, if that NCO had Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. ASB Student Leadership Analysis Over the past four years, I have devoted a major amount of my time to being active in the ASB Student Government program at my school, under many different officer positions that have each allowed me to grow in numerous scopes of leadership. Looking back, it is evident that all my work within ASB has revolved around in battling one major challenge: the lack of inclusiveness within our community. One of the major obstacles that we face in a populous campus of 3300 is the problem of students feeling like they do not belong. Also, the high school shows minimal interaction with the citizens of our community. As a leader, I set out to be the catalyst, by committing to promote a positive change inschool culture. Determined, I set out to lead Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Student Leadership Reflection Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about my strengths. At first, I had no clue what they were. I also had no clue that they can help explain why certain people work well in a group together or why they don't. My strengths have helped me adjust to life as a college student and even helped me to figure out what I want to do after my college career is over. Events like the Heritage Project, The Student Leadership book, the networking event, and even the peer mentor presentations gave me a lot to think about when considering my future. This class has helped me develop my leadership skills and grow as an Otterbein student by allowing me to better understand myself. Throughout this semester I have encountered many different situations that I have never experienced before. I wasn't hesitant about starting college but once I got here I found it a little overwhelming. I didn't know about many of the resources that are on campus and classes were very different from what I expected them to be. FYS Goal one, found on the strengths reflection paper guidelines is, "To connect you to the resources that promote belonging, wellness, personal development, and success in the first year". I feel as though FYS 1025 has helped me meet that goal because I now know about many of the resources centers here. I learned about them through Jordan's peer mentor moments, whether she was talking about the Center for Student Success or the CCPD. Jordan's peer mentor moments helped me locate the different resource around campus and even understand what they were about. Even though I haven't been to some of them, I was able to help people not in our class find them and know what those resources are about. This has helped me grow as a student because it increases my familiarity with campus and allows me to know that if I have a question there are people that can provide me with information. The course has developed me as a future leader at Otterbein by helping me understand myself. In the beginning I didn't know about strengths. Now that I do, I see why they are important when beginning a new chapter in life. Before starting a project, I now think about how I'm going to accomplish my goals. I use my strategic strength to plan out Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal a commitment to excellence that will enable you to attain the success you seek". ā€“Mario Andretti Leadership is the process of motivating others to work to meet specific goals and objectives. A leader motivates others to action. Thus, it is the motivation of others and their actions that defines a successful leader. In other words, leadership is the art and science of getting others to perform and achieve a vision. Therefore, leadership is not only reflected in performance, no matter how good that performance is, but in accomplishment. As a leader one 's focus should be on accomplishing that leadership goals, whether in a personal, community or charitable, business, political, or industrial forum. In the business world, managers have a great responsibility of leading employees working under them. In order to achieve successful leadership, a leader or a manager should possess certain principles and essential skills. This essay will firstly start by defining the key terms, leadership and motivation. Next the essay will give a literature review and move on to analytically explore the leadership and motivation in cross cultural experiences. In doing so, the motivational theories will be explained in a summarized manner. Finally, the essay will be concluded with the findings from several different studies on motivation and leadership. • 6. My experience in the student leadership program was interesting and informative. These are two descriptive words that stand out in my mind about the whole program. There were times in the student leadership program when I questioned myself about being part of the class, but I overcame this once I reflected on the many things that we have learned. From the guest speakers to the projects, the class has always kept me thinking. First, the program was very informative. I took in so much information over the course of the semester that I sometimes feel overwhelmed, but in a good way. From learning how to speak in public to overcoming the potential barrier of diversity, the class informed me on how to become a successful leader in today's...show more content... With so many leaders expressing their feelings and ideas, I thought that opinions would start ethical wars. To mysurprise, everyone in the class respected each other's ideas because everyone realized that we are all important to each other's growth as leaders. The thing that stood out to me the most was the importance and impact of certain guest speakers. Dr. Derek Lane is one in particular that stood out in my mind. His presentation was about risk taking and different leadership styles. He went over how important it was for leaders to sometimes take risks to gain credibility and attention from their followers. I am a strong believer in that aspect of leadership and it helped reassure my own confidence in my style of leadership. The different leadership styles that he expressed helped me develop a sense of where I fall into place in the leadership realm. It explains why I do certain things when I am leading and helps me restrain myself from making mistakes that clash with my leadership style. Ms. Mildred Bailey's presentation on diversity was also very exceptional. She gave us examples on how to deal with diversity in a positive manner. In leadership, diversity must be addressed so a problem is not created. Her examples on life situations and other leadership roles put the class in a relaxing atmosphere that let us speak out about our diversity experiences and problems. I now feel more comfortable and confident that I can work with Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In the midst of being in this class, an ongoing mission has always been to create a better school culture, and to positively impact the student body of Savanna. For my first two years of high school, I was president of my class, and with this job at hand, I led my class through several school wide events, and organized events that bonded our class together. I felt that I was very successful with fulfilling my duties as class president for the first two years of my high school experience. However, after these two years of only leading my class, I decided to run for a position that ultimately led the whole school. As an upcoming Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Do your teens have plenty of leadership potential, but not an avenue in which to develop it? Youth leadership clubs provide high school students with a structure in which they can practice and nurture their high school leadership skills. Untapped Potential Sarah is your typical teenager. • 9. Student Leadership As A Student Leader 1. There are student leaders for those to have an experience gained from a leadership role, which will be valuable for a lifetime. A student leader is nevertheless faced with several obstacles in the learning environment that encourage handsā€“on experience. They teach skills such as planning, decisionā€“making, communicating, and working as teammates are all skills that will build as a student leader since it is something that students may not receive in classrooms often. When receiving leadership positions is the moment for students to exert their voice from a place of impact. Regardless of the possibility that we may need to remain after practices to help those needing help I 'm willing to do as such. My strengths are that I have an ambition for band, I am confident, I am committed to everything that I do and I am a great multitasker. My weaknesses are that I can be shy at certain times. Qualities that I possess that would make me an effective leader are: Communication Skillsā€“ I always try and display a positive and enthusiastic attitude for others even when I am not feeling the best. Work Ethicā€“ I work hard in everything that I do and I never give up no matter the challenge, Hard work is the basic building block of every kind of achievement. Sensitivity in working with peersā€“ I understand that certain members of the marching band may take more time than others to learn how to march or play their music. I understand that I must motivate and not dictate. I will be willing to help these peers after practices or even on weekends to ensure that they can get what they are aiming for. Understanding Leadershipā€“ I understand that I am to do what is right when no one is watching and stay true to the band and schools values. Personal Responsibilityā€“ I understand that I will be held accountable for whatever responsibility any of the adults ask me to do. I understand that I will need to get done whatever it is as quickly as possible. Even if that means settling disputes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Student Leadership Program Analysis In my time in the Student Leadership Program I have seen many passive programs that were innovative and unique and focused on diversity, social justice, and community, but I believe that the passive program that has stood out most to not only me but to the entire population of Student Leadership Program would be the Recognition Tree. This program was created by the National Residence Hall Honorary Vice President of Recognition Andrew Miller as something fun, to try and get students more engaged with recognition. In order to do this, he created what w call the tree with some branches that he found, then he printed some leaves and placed everything on a table and from there the recognition tree was born. The first time that the recognition tree...show more content... With this program the executive boards of both the Residence Hall Honorary and the National Residence Hall Honorary saw more people from both organizations coming into the office to fill out a leaf for the Recognition tree and to talk about recognition as well as other things that pertained to both of the organizations such as being on the executive board, getting inducted into National Residence Hall Honorary, bills, and of the month awards. With more people coming into the StudentLeadership Program Office the executive cabinet actually felt as if they were sitting in the office for a purpose especially since they had residents coming to visit them more frequently. Today the recognition tree not only sits in the Student Leadership Program Office but it also makes an occasional trip to the National Residence Hall Honorary meetings on Wednesday nights that way anyone that does not have time to come into the office can come and put a leaf on the Recognition tree at the end of the meeting while everyone is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Leaders come forth depending on the kind of situation, in which they are need. This type of leadership is typically known as "situational leadership," where the key concept is every situation is different, so each situation requires a specific, unique leader. For a person to be a great leader, one does not have to necessarily assume a "bossy" persona, which is stereotypically characterized with all leaders, but being a leader based on listening. Being this background leader is known to many as, "servant leadership." Servant and situational leadership is how I can characterize my leadership style so far since I have joined the student leadership community at Hillwood High School. Last school year, when I picked up an application to...show more content... Bennis favors working out conflicts, while Cronin suggests creating conflict. Creating conflict? That struck me as odd, considering, in my mind, leaders always resolved conflicts. Relating to my previously mentioned theory before, a leader with various traits are needed for individual situations, with a person specialized in creating conflict, can be useful in a leadership setting, because concocting conflict can lead to an overall result of resolution on a problem. In this case, a rift occurred during our attempt at constructing a leadership project and the project mangers created conflict by putting all the animosity, confusion, and frustration on the table for us, as a class, to discuss. Therefore, as a class, sorted through all our problems, and created compromises to implement for our future leadership class projects. Likewise, creating conflict can have a beneficial outcome, if done correctly and with the right intent in mind. To fully call oneself a leader, volunteer service is an essential building block in building leadership character. Before leadership class, I volunteered, just seldom. In August, I began my service to the community, by waking up at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at the L.P. Pencil Box, which offers teacher and administers with free school supplies. There I sorted supplies, helped count inventory, stock shelves, and assist customers. I would also be prepared and ask for deadlines to make sure I do the tasks on time. I may even make a routine for myself for example when I get home at around 4, I could change, eat and shower at a certain and then spend a few hours on revising and homework, then spend some time on fulfilling my responsibilities as a student leader. 6. • 14. College And University Leadership Program Essay INTERVIEW WITH DR. PATRICIA MCDONALD When it comes to the topic of making a difference in the lives of students, most of us will readily agree that it can be very gratifying when college and university leaders inspire students and impact their lives, while developing them into future leaders. It is believed that making a difference in the lives of student is a shared effort that cannot be done alone even the smallest act of kindness can impact the world if people come together. A future desirable outcome, hoping to be accomplished from the Leadership program, is to make a difference in the lives of people and making an impact. In addition to a shared effort, when we make small deposits of effort in an attempt to make a difference, collectively, we are adding to the bigger picture of transforming lives, which will inspire movement towards achievement, in my opinion is leadership. As a graduate student in the Masters of Art, Higher Education Leadership program, the career and educational goal being explored is to develop the knowledge to help people achieve something to enrich their lives. • 15. HOSA Student Leadership Hailing from a STEM based school that has a special focus on medicine, HOSA, short for Health Occupations Students of America, is an organization that blends my passion for healthcare, learning, competition, and networking into one, coherent role. In HOSA, I have been able to meet professionals and students from all corners of North Carolina. In addition, I have learned the true purpose of student leadership. Myself and fellow student HOSA officers are responsible for the preparation and execution of all events including collaborations amongst student groups and the community with events such as blood drives. I for one can attest to the fact that HOSA fosters many chief skills, including how to communicate, organize, and manage time more effectively. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Student Leadership Essay There are many positions that high school students can occupy that are considered student leadership positions. They can be teachers' assistants, football captains, cheerleading captains, or student body presidents. All of these require students to be of good character and strong mind. However, none of these can compare to the demands on the drum major. The drum major is the student leader of the band, and he is, at the same time, a role model, a teacher, a friend to all, an excellent musician, a performer, a liaison between the band and the director, the director's chief "gopher," and the chief morale officer. The drum major leads the marching band in the halftime show and during rehearsals, but as the above list demonstrates, his...show more content... I had to conduct to a piece of my choosing, call out simple commands, and sing and conduct "The Star Spangled Banner." It was a nerve racking experience, but I did well, and I made it. I was ecstatic. I was the only junior that made it, along with two seniors. I went to Drum Major Academy that summer, which deserves two full pages of description. My comrades and I picked out our own uniform. I bought a whistle, gloves, and a handful of other things. I was ready to lead a group of two hundred of my peers, or so I thought. Preband is what we call the two weeks before school starts when the band practices four hours every morning in preparation for the season. In the week prior to preband, I went to church camp in Panama City, Florida, and unfortunately, I broke my toe. I will not describe how I accomplished that task as it is a source of much shame for me. I was very disappointed because my golden vision of what preband was going to be was tarnished, but I soldiered on, and made it limping through. I learned many things during those two weeks about perseverance. I didn't let my disability get in the way, and instead of feeling sorry for myself, I just did what I could to the best of my ability, and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was when the school year started that the lessons really started coming. The lessons that I learned as a Drum Major are lessons that come only with experience in a leadership position. • 17. Leaders in the Classroom Š’Ā¬Student Leadership Student leaders come in all shapes and sizes. They choose to lead based on their skills and preferences. Whether in social groups, athletics, or within the classroom, student leaders demonstrate certain traits that benefit both themselves and those they are leading. Generally speaking, leaders are classified as role models within the student body. They are the students who challenge the status quo, who ask questions and demand answers. They inspire athletic teams and social organizations alike; they bring to light the issues that an organization or club faces and work toward a solution. The traits and skills that these leaders exhibit socially, athletically, and academically can be both inherit and learned. The...show more content... He told us to imagine the start of the race, the middle of the race, and then crossing the finish line. He told us not to imagine the other boats, just us as if we were in practice. After that he had us carry our boat down and we were all silent. We rowed up to the starting line and prepared ourselves for the hardest thing in our life. I honestly can't tell you what happened during the race because I completely just focused on the task at hand. We ended up finishing in second even though we were expected to finish in last. It was one of my favorite team experiences to be a part of. But how did my captain compare to other great leaders in sports such as Michael Jordan? Michael Jordan is arguably one of the greatest leaders in history, not just sports. He led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships. (Shulman, 1965) He wasn't a great leader for his abilities on the court, but also how he presented himself off the court. He would stay after games and practice to fine tune his skills, and participate in various charity events. Michael Jordan wasn't just a leader; he was a role model. That is what defines a great leader, someone who you can look up to as a role model. One can then pose the question, how can the leadership skills demonstrated in coā€“curricular activities affect the classroom environment? In recent years, the interest in leadership development has surfaced as part of the curriculum. There has been an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. What I Learned in My Leadership Class Before this class, I had a very primitive and vague definition of leadership. Not only did I define it as per my views and ideologies, but I also said that each individual has their own definition of leadership. My initial belief was that leadership does not have a clear cut definition, but there were well defined leadership traits which made an individual. I also initially believed that personal traits did not translate into leadership traits with no strong correlation. After going through the various modules this class offered, it is safe to say that I have significantly redefined leadership and underwent a strong personal assessment. This paper talks what I took back from each of the class activities, assignments and how my selfā€“assessment compares to the perception of others. I think this class was a good mix of both theoretical concepts as well as practical applications for discussion. Something I enjoyed the most and benefited greatly was the application of various leadership models, theories and character comparisons to personal life applications. Leadership exists in all facets of life and it is important to understand some of the several well researched theories and look for opportunities to apply them in life. The ropes course was strategically scheduled in the beginning of the class to get to know everyone outside the classroom atmosphere and it presented some real time opportunity to demonstrate leadership ability. Since this is a class which involves a lot of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Wilson Student Leadership A.)Briefly explain why you want to be a Student Leader, what you can gain and contribute to the program. In high school I was always the student going "above and beyond" everyone else. In many situations I would take the initiative to "super head" projects and make sure the task given was being done the correct way. At thehigh school I attended there were not many students like myself. Other students were focused on being in the "in crowd", this left me feeling alone and not having anyone to relate to. When I stepped foot on Hampton University's campus and saw the Student Leaders during New Student Orientation Week, I immediately knew that I wanted to be apart of the organization. Within the students I saw qualities that I also embodied, I also saw a group of hardworking students who are ready to succeed and take on the world. If I was accepted into The Greer Dawson Wilson StudentLeadership Training Program (SLP), I would automatically grow as a person. I have already grown during SLP week, by learning that it is okay to come out of out of my comfort zone.
