3. Chapter 5: the power of perception over realism
Perception over realism is a theme that showcase how reality can be portrait as matter of truthful and human
sometimes tend to avoid from it, realism gives the impression of probability of happening, in what individual
perceived can have a different outcome. Human thoughts and emotions lies on their desire to achieve
contentment and perfection while, in reality human are always struggle with their life bound by a system that
one must follow throughout their life. However, human perception also, has the capability to overshadow the
truth from reality. As interpretation can inspire truth and untruthful events while language can sometimes be
the intention of falsehood leaving the reality of truth untold.

4. Perception
Perception plays an important role and begins with two main characters Marco polo and Kublai Khan
Interacting. Where language can be perceived as a means of an idea to communicate and symbolize, which
sometimes can also lead to truth or untruth. Interaction between these two characters can reveal how
reader distinguish these two characters’ social class and how both characters can have such a different
idealistic of how they visualize their own city and how the narrator tells about sense of time, sense of visual,
sense of touch and sense of speech within the five stories and it’s based upon the perception’s reader on
how to justify it.

5. Juxta
position
juxtaposition is an element of contrast and distinguishing. As the element can strongly highlight the social
background of two main characters during interaction. While, also distinguish their idealistic thought on
Olivia city. Moreover, Marco Polo, also described the two-half cities, Sophronia with contrast in building
structure. Well juxtaposition can also, describe time as an element of representing two different outcome
that showcase inhabitants describing the condition of Aglaura city in past and present but with different
opinion.

6. Repetition
repetition, is an element can be found describing most of the cities with the five stories. Repetition can be
described as a form of action highlighting the inhabitants’ performance, it’s also to describe the significant of
cycle in human life or a repetition of a system that the society life in, a pattern to repeat throughout their life
can be seen the city of Eutropia. Repetition, can also be seen as a language in communication how citizen of
Aglaura describe their city using repetitive words to diminish the truth from what it is in the present.

The experience of time is demonstrated in every human life
from birth to death a natural rhythm and a process occur
repetitively in a circular ideal. As human contemplating ideas
through thoughts, time move inconspicuously fast as only
oneself realize when perceived it.

Symbolism of life:
The upper realm represent as a place of living and a network
of lives that connect to all things including culture and
humanism. Being portrait as a living subject when birth is
given life that begins to have its roots of culture, believes and
fate growing like a tree. As humanity life isn’t beginning with
an end but a beginning with live.

the layers of levels are a symbolism of obstacle that oneself
faces through the growth of life. hardship, emotions and
choices are present in humanity that one’s life is fate to have.
As the layer goes deeper is becomes experience.

Symbolism of Birth:
Birth is representing of live and living. As birth is the core and
the dominant of life. without life the dominant of being can’t
be exist, as all living matters are rooted with birth.

Symbolism of death: Juxtaposition
Death is the opposition of life, where death depict as an end in progression
in life for all living matters. The bottom realm represent as dark and
gloomy as roots of life no longer grow and slowly deteriorate. A birth of
death showcase a beginning of end, as end cycle to birth and living once
again.

14. As oneself journey into this narrow pathway, where these parallel rows of shop houses overshadow people as if is crushing the
street. The skeletons and fabric has turn old age as well as inheritances of this place while seeing people passing through with
wonders of its generation knowing the skin of the wall dying pealing off with parts turns dark grey exposing its flesh of bricks
and mortar, rusted building fill with old-age antique stack and display upon and continuously aging where interior is shrouded
with shadow and silhouette of tenants. Opposition of the vibrant street drench in sunlight flooded with different ethnicity
walking pass by others feeling the compact of the crowd, hearing the chatting noise, shouting for bargain. Outburst of laughter
where meantime outsiders are enthusiastically exploring this century old ruin some are daze by its cultural while others are
indulging the food of their local.

Timeless heritage

15. As this century old place stood by its time, where time cycle through days and nights inhabitants coming from outskirt of this town
aware of its attraction. People surge through this ruins of buildings exploring the wonders and the legacy of heritage left by the
inheritances. Decayed buildings becomes traditional as time isn’t of the essence, preserving its nature with confining its quality to
a timeline. Knowing that it’s from the past, where some of this building turns into monumental and walls became a canvas of
artwork as it is flourish into popularity. These are the landmark that represent an asset of this town where inhabitants becomes
attracted by its artistic values. Days and nights a long line of sequence of outsiders queuing to take turn to experience this
phenomenon. Whereas the display mural art has symbolize its nature of realism depicting reality of the past reminiscing the
missing childhood period of how the street was represent as happiness of joy.

16. The yellow bright sun light begins to diminish while, color of dark blue disperse all over the sky. As the evening is setting off with
night life. darkness is rising, street are illuminating with artificial light. The color of the environment has set into a different tone,
where colors from the artificial light scatter over the parts of the place. street traders emerging out to the street from hot weather
replace by a night breeze. Now street are fill with traders and vendors, crowded of people congesting the pathways which, no
longer recognizable as before the evening. Atmosphere changes immediately as if oneself has been transported into another place
in time. Exotic night activities are scatter over the street, oneself have to walk through a sea of people in a cramp and tight
situation grasping for a breeze air while, oneself feel the continually sweating of the body, smelling the aromatic food along the
pathway . As only when oneself reach the cross junction, they feel a breeze of lightness knowing which, pathway they should take
next.
