grow older, they are taught names to assign to things. Dogs are no longer large and hairy, composed of multiple colors of fur and slobbering
tongues, woofing and bounding everywhere. They continue to be such things, but when you see a dog, you think "dog", not all the other things.
And if you then tell someone else that you saw a dog, even if you remember exactly what the dog looked like, they may picture it differently. Such
is language. Burke uses this feature of language as justification for likening it to a "terministic screen": "even if any given terminology is a
reflection of reality, by its very nature as a terminology it must be a selection of reality; and to this extent it must function also as a deflection of

generated 251 million tons of trash with at least three locations to go: fifty–five percent to landfills, thirty–three percent to recycling, and twelve and a
half percent to incinerators (SC 7) (Kulpinski). Daily, one person would generate 4.6 pounds of garbage (BE 3). Many Americans do not think of the
build–up from trash when they take out the garbage once a week. When a landfill site develops, there is an impact on biodiversity. About thirty to three
hundred species are lost according to the Romanian Ministry of Environment and Forests when landfills are introduced to a new environment. Along
with biodiversity, soil and groundwater are affected. Soil fertility decreases because of the mixture of toxic substance and decaying organic material.
Groundwater can contain high levels of toxic metals, ammonia, toxic organic compounds, pathogens (SC 4) (Newton). Along with land pollution, the
human race pollutes water and air. According to Jacques Cousteau, water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become one

Throughout the majority of earth's history, the environment influenced all living organisms. Not until the relatively recent evolution of human beings
have we seen life effect the earth's environment. This human influence comes with great responsibility since our negligence can negatively alter the
environment we require to survive. By polluting our basic necessities, we will end up causing our own extinction. Polluting the air we breathe with
toxins can lead to respiratory disease and cancer. Likewise, polluting our water with bacteria and parasites, developing waterborne diseases, will make it

I recently discovered that one cheeseburger takes more than 700 gallons of water to produce (includes water consumed by cows, water used to irrigate
the cornfields that feed the cows, and the water used to produce the beef and cheese). When considering the millions of cheeseburgers that are
consumed worldwide everyday, it is evident that the earth's water supply is declining rapidly. Due to air pollution, theozone layer is also being
consumed at an extreme rate. Its arch nemesis is the various fumes from cars and factories. Scientists estimate that each 1% drop in ozone levels
causes a 3 to 6% rise in skin cancer cases. Since the ozone layer prevents most ultraviolet and other high–energy radiation from penetrating to the
earth's surface, this is a crisis that has to be rectified. The ozone's depletion has dropped to a level so thin that if we brought it down to Earth, it would
only be as deep as the thickness of three dimes. The only positive outlook concerning this matter is that the ozone has the ability to reconstruct itself
when UV–C rays break the bond of O2. Single oxygen atoms combine with O2 to form ozone (UV–B rays limit this process still yet). This evidence

My Love Of The Environment
I have always been concerned about the environment. In elementary school, I made posters encouraging students to recycle and hung them up
everywhere. I organized my first protest when I was nine. My best friend and I made picket signs to object the trimming of trees on our street. I didn't
realize at the time it was to protect the power lines, but the good intentions were there.

At the moment, we only have one planet that humans are able to survive on. However, human actions are destroying this planet and using all of the
natural resources our planet provides us. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know or care about what will happen to this planet once they are no

Much of our waste is made up of glass, metal, plastic and paper. Our natural resources such as trees, oil, coal and aluminum are used up in enormous
amounts to make these products and the resources will one day be completely used up. So in order to cut down on the energy used lets reuse.

* Sort out your trash. Organic matter (e.g. potato peelings, left over food, tea leaves etc.) can be put in to a compost heap in the garden and used as a
good, natural fertilizer for the plants.
*Aluminum cans, glass bottles and newspapers are often collected from our doorsteps, but other items such as plastic bottles, juice cartons and
cardboard may not be, in which case they can be taken to nearby recycling banks. You can find out where they are by just searching on line. * Use
recycled paper to help save trees. Chlorine bleach is usually used to make newspapers and this pollutes rivers. It's better to use unbleached,
recycled paper whenever you can. * Take your old clothes to charity shops. Some are sold, others are returned to textile mills for recycling. * Try to
avoid buying plastic. It's hard to recycle. One way to cut down on plastic is to refuse to use plastic bags offered by supermarkets and use cloth
re–useable shopping bags instead, or re–use plastic bags over and over again, until they wear out and then recycle them.

The most devastating environmental change of all is the loss of biodiversity. The rate of species extinction has remained at one species per million per
year, furthermore, the accelerating destruction of habitats throughout the world leads to projections of the loss of two–thirds of all species on earth by
the end of this century, and millions of years to recover from the Cretaceous period (mindfully.org, 2013). As individuals, we obtain our food, directly
or indirectly from plants, for example, plant our primary use of medicines. Biodiversity also determines the properties of communities and ecosystems,
which capture energy from the sun. The world is less resilient, more homogeneous, less interesting, and with fewer opportunities for our descendants

Carson and Quinn's passion for environment I believe the level of attention given to saving the environment is extremely low. Humans don't seem to
be concerned all that about the environment. We are taking advantage of the environment for our own selfish reasons, and don't realize the

Climate change has been evident across the globe, and mostly, it has impacted some areas more than others. However, there has been a strong
correlation that climate change has been linked to the new threat to humans, diseases caused by vectors. The purpose of this paper is to examine
climate change and the spread of the zika virus.
One cannot shy away from the fact that climate change has been caused by some of the human–based activities on the environment. These activities
have been at an increasing rate over the past years generated a wave that cannot be stopped by anyone since our natural environment is no longer
independent, but being interfered by humans. We know that different economies are trying their best to up their game through urbanization,
technological advancements, and globalization, however, it is not all good at all since there are alterations in both the economic and social patterns on
the globe. Land, air, and water are the top most endangered natural resources in the environment since their degradation is increasing each day and
every night (McMichael & Confalonieri, 2015).
Climate change cannot be disputed citing the fact that it is real and basically, the human activities are primarily responsible for these changes in
climate. Most of the human population lives in desperation and poverty citing that close to 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation,
something which increases the prevalence of diseases in the areas they live.
