Paul bore the scars of discipleship; Jesus bore the scars of sacrifice; where are my scars? We have made being a disciple of Jesus appear to be so easy without any sacrifice or commitment so we have a generation of Christians with no scars. Is that reasonable? Where are my scars?
2. John 20:19-29
19 Then, the same day at evening, being
the first day of the week, when the doors
were shut where the disciples were
assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus
came and stood in the midst, and said to
them, “Peace be with you.”
3. John 20:19-29
20 When He had said this, He showed
them His hands and His side. Then the
disciples were glad when they saw the
Lord.
4. John 20:19-29
21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to
you! As the Father has sent Me, I also
send you.” 22 And when He had said this,
He breathed on them, and said to them,
“Receive the Holy Spirit.
5. John 20:19-29
23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are
forgiven them; if you retain the sins of
any, they are retained.”
24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of
the twelve, was not with them when
Jesus came.
6. John 20:19-29
25 The other disciples therefore said to
him, “We have seen the Lord.”
So he said to them, “Unless I see in His
hands the print of the nails, and put my
finger into the print of the nails, and put
my hand into His side, I will not believe.”
7. John 20:19-29
26 And after eight days His disciples were
again inside, and Thomas with them.
Jesus came, the doors being shut, and
stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to
you!”
8. John 20:19-29
27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your
finger here, and look at My hands; and
reach your hand here, and put it into My
side. Do not be unbelieving, but
believing.”
9. John 20:19-29
28 And Thomas answered and said to
Him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because
you have seen Me, you have believed.
Blessed are those who have not seen and
yet have believed.”
10. Where Are My Scars?
• Paul bore the scars of discipleship (Gal.
6:12-17) (2Cor. 11:22-28)
11. Galatians 6:12-17
12 As many as desire to make a good
showing in the flesh, these would
compel you to be circumcised, only that
they may not suffer persecution for the
cross of Christ.
12. Galatians 6:12-17
13 For not even those who are
circumcised keep the law, but they desire
to have you circumcised that they may
boast in your flesh.
13. Galatians 6:12-17
14 But God forbid that I should boast except
in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by
whomthe world has been crucified to me,
and I to the world. 15 For in Christ Jesus
neither circumcision nor uncircumcision
avails anything, but a new creation.
14. Galatians 6:12-17
16 And as many as walk according to this
rule, peace and mercy be upon them,
and upon the Israel of God.
17 From now on let no one trouble me,
for I bear in my body the marks of the
Lord Jesus.
15. 2Corinthians 11:22-28
22 Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they
Israelites? So am I. Are they the seed of
Abraham? So am I.
16. 2Corinthians 11:22-28
23 Are they ministers of Christ?—I speak
as a fool—I am more: in labors more
abundant, in stripes above measure, in
prisons more frequently, in deaths often.
24 From the Jews five times I received
forty stripes minus one.
17. 2Corinthians 11:22-28
25 Three times I was beaten with rods;
once I was stoned; three times I was
shipwrecked; a night and a day I have
been in the deep;
18. 2Corinthians 11:22-28
26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in
perils of robbers, in perils of my own
countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in
perils in the city, in perils in the
wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils
among false brethren;
19. 2Corinthians 11:22-28
27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness
often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings
often, in cold and nakedness— 28 besides
the other things, what comes upon me
daily: my deep concern for all the
churches.

your finger here, and look at My
hands; and reach your hand here,

24. Acts 5:40
And they agreed with him, and when
they had called for the apostles and
beaten them, they commanded that
they should not speak in the name of
Jesus, and let them go.
25. Acts 16:22,23
22 Then the multitude rose up
together against them; and the
magistrates tore off their clothes
and commanded them to be beaten
with rods.
26. Acts 16:22,23
23 And when they had laid many
stripes on them, they threw them
into prison, commanding the jailer
to keep them securely.
27. 1Corinthians 4:11-13
11 To the present hour we both hunger
and thirst, and we are poorly clothed,
and beaten, and homeless. 12 And we
labor, working with our own hands.
Being reviled, we bless; being
persecuted, we endure;
28. 1Corinthians 4:11-13
13 being defamed, we entreat. We have
been made as the filth of the world, the
offscouring of all things until now.
29. Where Are My Scars?
• Paul bore the scars of discipleship (Gal.
6:12-17) (2Cor. 11:22-28)

30. Isaiah 53:5
But He was wounded for our
transgressions, He was bruised for
our iniquities; The chastisement for
our peace was upon Him, and by
His stripes we are healed.
