  1. 1. Acts 21:17-40Tallapoosa church of ChristSunday MorningJanuary 1, 2012
  2. 2. Acts 21:17 NKJV And when we had come to Jerusalem, thebrethren received us gladly.Romans 15:30-31 NKJV Now I beg you, brethren, through theLord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that youstrive together with me in prayers to God for me, (31) that I maybe delivered from those in Judea who do not believe, and that myservice for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints,
  3. 3. Rom. 7:1-4 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to thosewho know the law), that the law has dominion over a man as longas he lives? (2) For the woman who has a husband is bound bythe law to her husband as long as he lives. But if the husbanddies, she is released from the law of her husband. (3) So then if,while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will becalled an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from thatlaw, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married anotherman. (4) Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead tothe law through the body of Christ, that you may be married toanother—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we shouldbear fruit to God.
  4. 4. Acts 21:27-34 NKJV Now when the seven days were almostended, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred upthe whole crowd and laid hands on him, (28) crying out, "Menof Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhereagainst the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore healso brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holyplace." (29) (For they had previously seen Trophimus theEphesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul hadbrought into the
  5. 5. Acts 21:27-34 continued temple.) (30) And all the city wasdisturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and draggedhim out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut. (31)Now as they were seeking to kill him, news came to thecommander of the garrison that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.(32) He immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran downto them. And when they saw the commander and the soldiers,
  6. 6. Acts 21:27-34 continued they stopped beating Paul. (33) Then thecommander came near and took him, and commanded him to bebound with two chains; and he asked who he was and what hehad done. (34) And some among the multitude cried one thingand some another. So when he could not ascertain the truthbecause of the tumult, he commanded him to be taken into thebarracks.
  7. 7. I was once accused of preaching Satan’s wordsRomans 6:23 NKJV For the wages of sin is death, but the gift ofGod is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  8. 8. Acts 21:21-22 NKJV but they have been informed about you thatyou teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsakeMoses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their childrennor to walk according to the customs. (22) What then? Theassembly must certainly meet, for they will hear that you havecome.
  9. 9. Matthew 5:11-12 NKJV "Blessed are you when they revile andpersecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for Mysake. (12) Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is yourreward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who werebefore you.
  10. 10. 1 Peter 3:15-17 NKJV But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, andalways be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you areason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; (16)having a good conscience, that when they defame you asevildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may beashamed. (17) For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer fordoing good than for doing evil.
  11. 11. Luke 6:7 NKJV So the scribes and Pharisees watched Himclosely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they mightfind an accusation against Him.
  12. 12. Mark 14:55-59 NKJV Now the chief priests and all the councilsought testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but foundnone. (56) For many bore false witness against Him, but theirtestimonies did not agree. (57) Then some rose up and bore falsewitness against Him, saying, (58) "We heard Him say, I willdestroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I willbuild another made without hands. " (59) But not even then didtheir testimony agree.
  13. 13. Acts 21:20 NKJV And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, "You see, brother, how many myriads ofJews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for thelaw; These Jewish Christian felt Paul was a false teacher. It was not required but OK to continue to observe days, Rom. 14.
  14. 14. Acts 21:23-26 NKJV Therefore do what we tell you: We have fourmen who have taken a vow. (24) Take them and be purified withthem, and pay their expenses so that they may shave theirheads, and that all may know that those things of which theywere informed concerning you are nothing, but that you yourselfalso walk orderly and keep the law. (25) But concerning theGentiles who believe, we have written and decided that theyshould
  15. 15. Acts 21:23-26 continued keep themselves from things offered toidols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexualimmorality." (26) Then Paul took the men, and the nextday, having been purified with them, entered the temple toannounce the expiration of the days of purification, at which timean offering should be made for each one of them.
  16. 16. Romans 3:23 NKJV for all have sinned and fall short of the gloryof God,Romans 5:8 NKJV But God demonstrates His own love toward us,in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.Matthew 20:28 NKJV just as the Son of Man did not come to beserved, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
  17. 17. Acts 2:36-41 NKJV "Therefore let all the house of Israel knowassuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, bothLord and Christ." (37) Now when they heard this, they were cutto the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Menand brethren, what shall we do?" (38) Then Peter said tothem, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the nameof Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive thegift of the Holy Spirit. (39) For the promise is to you and to your
  18. 18. Acts 2:36-41 continued children, and to all who are afar off, as manyas the Lord our God will call."
