Strategy
• Managing Procurement, Imports, warehousing/logistics with focus on quality, economy,
reliability and service without compromising on values.
• Sending monthly and bi monthly price outlook reports to Commodity Committee along
with proposed strategy of buying (hedging or spot) to Commodity Committee.
• Preparation of variable and fixed cost budgets keeping in view departmental targets and
business growth.
• Managing and increasing buying through SAP Ariba portal. Especially for the first time in
Pakistan did online bidding of SMP.
• Ensuring selection, prequalification, performance evaluation and audit of suppliers in
coordination with Quality assurance department as per SOPs.
• Presenting periodical performance reports of my departments, to management, on
KPIs/Service levels agreed.
• Working closely with suppliers of critical materials to minimize costs, maximizing service to
the Company that includes ensuring JIT inventory and VMI.
• Reviewing planning parameters on periodic basis i.e. lead times, MOQs.
• Reducing advances and increasing credit terms to improve cash flows. This includes
increasing credit period on LCs.
Health, Safety & Environment
• Worked as team member for implementation of FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, 18000, 14000, BRC
issue 7, Halal, and Jakim.
• For the first time in EFL included our inbound logistics’ drivers’ hours in counting of safe
man hours. Managed their periodic trainings.
• Working together with other departments to achieve TRIR for the Company.
• Staff won prize of reporting highest number of irregularities.
Procurement
• Managing the procurement of worth Rs 10.0 billion in current year (based on 2016’s
planned spent)
• Presented operational plan to meet over-all objective of the department. This includes
Cost Reduction / Saving, Risk Mitigation, Compliance, Supplier Management Strategy,
System Improvement / Efficiency, ARIBA Utilization, Long Term Buying Strategy, Improving
Market Intelligence & Analytics, Organizational Development.
• In 2014, saved Rs 453 million in Commodities, 125 in Ingredients and 60 million in Farm/
feed purchases against the planned spent and in 2015, saved Rs 704 million in
Commodities, 126 in Ingredients and 125 million in Farm/ feed.
• By comparing our hedging/Forward lockin/bulk buying with spot market price we saved
250 million in 2014 in these 3 commodities and in 2015 we saved 360 million
2. • Induction of new suppliers/vendors to avoid single source dependency as well as cost
control initiative based on the suppliers’ classification on volume, value and criticality to
business.
• Developed a stringent system of new supplier induction in co-ordination with QA.
• Eliminated advance especially with sugar suppliers and with Rafhan Maize and
increasing the credit period especially in imports.
• In 2015, in coordination with our treasury department we have taken initiative to involve
Citi bank UAE as confirming and issuing bank in addition to our local issuing and
supplier’s beneficiary bank to give financing on 2%.
• Also managed toll manufacturing of chocolate coating through an agreement and kept
rate unchanged for last 6 years.
• Taken initiative to convert shipments from CNF basis to Ex works by inducting our
forwarder in Ecolean and now expanding it to other materials
Logistics and Warehousing
• Managed four Finished Good (FG) warehouses (Renala Khurd, Lahore, Karachi &
Islamabad) and one RM/packaging warehouse (Renala Khurd).
• Reviewed monthly the IAR, OTIF, FIFO, Slow moving items and expired items.
• Managed to reduce warehouse loses.
• Developed and implemented warehouse best practices
• Developed new transporters and brought down overall logistics cost after negotiation
• Implementation of Reverse logistics to get packaging material (TetraPack) in outbound
vehicles.
• Currently working with IFFCO and National Foods to implement reverse logistics for our
Finished Goods.
