2. Impacting Policy
IPPAI’s path-breaking initiatives are filed as recommendations to key decision-makers. IPPAI has
been involved in the preparation and implementation of the electricity regulatory movement right
from the beginning.
Conferences
IPPAI has, over the last two decades, conducted over a hundred workshops, round table meetings,
energy summits and international conferences on a wide range of subjects such as financing,
regulation, policy initiatives, along with environmental and consumer concerns by NGOs.
These initiatives have yielded a wealth of data and information on how to tackle issues and
bottlenecks pertaining to a wide range of critical policy matters across the Indian power and allied
sectors. The recommendations that emanate from these initiatives are forwarded to the concerned
policy-makers for their consideration and necessary action.
About Us
As an established forum, the Independent Power Producers Association of India is a catalyst for
positive transformation in policy and regulations in the Indian power and allied sectors. Over
the years, we have brought together important decision-makers such as esteemed members of
parliaments, government authorities, regulators, policymakers, financial institutions, independent
power producers, power consumer, transcos, discoms and experts in the sector to deliberate upon
issues for power market reform.
USP
The fast-paced developments in the sector have opened up new opportunities, prospects and business
models, offering great potential for future growth in the sector on a sustainable basis.
Our conferences, seminars and summits attract a high-calibre audience of key decision-makers and
opinion makers across businesses and government, providing excellent opportunities for networking and
branding.
Due to its unique neutral disposition within the sector, IPPAI is able to interact with regulators from a
position of strength. Such interactions enable IPPAI to provide cutting-edge information on developments
in the market and the emerging situation, much before anyone else can. IPPAI continuously organizes a
series of pivotal initiatives that are engaging and revelatory due to the nature of the topics under discussion
and the presence of distinguished speakers and key decision-makers who participate in our forums.

It is one of the unique forums to meet so many regulators and decision-makers for energy in India. It’s
an amazing place to really share thoughts and meet so many of them all over India and sometimes from
several other countries all at once. From that perspective, I think it’s something very special about that
retreat. Mr. Pashupathy Gopalan | President, Asia Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa, SunEdison
IPPAI is doing a wonderful job because they bring companies and regulators together, where regulators
really hear from companies what their viewpoint is and what problems they are facing. Regulators too talk

We want to flag our thoughtful and serious approach towards energy security. This gathering
partakes of the work that is already going on and is in fact, a very beneficial step in that direction.
Mr. Salman Khurshid | Minister of External Affairs, India
Some experts believe that Indonesia will reduce its coal exports significantly and, the Indonesian
government may be actually planning to do so. However no final decision has been made regarding this.
Prof. Dr. Bukin Daulay | Senior Researcher, Center for Research & Development, Ministry of Energy &
Mineral Resources, Republic of Indonesia
US’ Shale boom may lead to an increase in energy exports and a reduction in prices, but
one should not read too much into this since it is a very new phenomenon. Since a lot of coal
will be replaced by natural gas in the US, it could export high quality coal in times to come.
Dr. Gal Luft, Co-Director, Institute for Analysis of Global Security | USA
Thailand targets that renewable energy will constitute 25% of its total energy consumption by 2021 and
as on date it has already reached an impressive 10.6%. Govt. mechanisms like tax incentives, facilitation

growth. Dr. Poonpat Leesombatpaiboon | Chief of the International Energy Cooperation Office, Ministry
