Profit is the ultimate indicator of whether a bank is performing well in the business.
Except for nonprofit banks, all other banks are turning to profit-oriented, profit-driven and
all-for-profit. By profit determines survival, asserting competitiveness, and bankability in
an economy that is inherently uncertain and harsh.
In addition, if the bank is profitable, the bank will expand credit growth, create jobs,
increase incomes, and accelerate economic growth. In order to determine the profit before
tax of a bank, it is necessary to determine income and expenses. Because the difference
between income and cost is profit. The following table shows the business results of the
branch in recent years.

Income and expenses have increased over the years, but the increase in income is higher
than the increase in costs, so the profitability of the branch has increased over the years,
which proves to be a good sign of the Bank. Although banks are now competing fiercely,
new banks often adopt attractive forms of mobilization and lending to entice customers.
Therefore, in order to retain old customers and compete with other banks, the bank spent
a considerable amount of money through raising interest rates and raising capital. In
addition, the expansion and development of the network, with the expansion of the
transaction office, the scale of the old transaction office has also taken a considerable cost
but in return, the income of the Ngan Rising. Therefore, the profit of the branch over the 3
years has increased

more services such as international payment, domestic payment, overseas remittance,

trust investment, guarantee, foreign exchange ... Therefore, the growth rate of service
activities of the branch in recent years has increased dramatically.
2.6.2 Evaluate the performance of credit department
In 2015, VPBank has mobilized over VND 300 billion. It can be seen that this figure is
smaller than the total outstanding loan because VPBank is transferred from the head
office and bear the interest rate of capital transfer. In 2016, before the financial and
banking market faced many difficulties, the capital became scarce, so the competition in
mobilizing capital among banks became more and more fierce through the race of
mobilizing capital Capital between commercial banks. With flexible interest rate
adjustments and promotions, VPBank's total mobilized capital is VND 695.3 billion by
the end of 2016. VPBank's main source of funding is from economic organizations and
residents, with VND accounting for around 85%. By the beginning of 2017, the total
mobilized capital of the branch has increased to VND903.475 billion. It is the result of the
advanced and applied technology, constantly developing products, utilities, quality
trading civilian of the branch. Moreover, in the past few years, the branch has actively
applied flexible and flexible solutions on interest rate policy, customer policy, diversified
forms of capital mobilization with other terms Each other, offering attractive promotional
products. (Cuong, 2018)

Figure 4: Report on the business results of the branch from 2015 - 2017 – Source:
Vpbank
According to the above table, most of the funds mobilized by the branch are from medium
and long term sources and mobilized mainly from VND. Specifically: In 2015, the rate of
raising funds from medium and long-term sources is 90%, equivalent to 273.4 billion. In
2016, the rate was 88.01%, equivalent to 611.9 billion VND. By the third quarter of 2017,
the rate was 86.66%, equivalent to 783 billion dong. The ratio of capital mobilization
from the branch in 2015 accounted for 84.1%, equivalent to 255.5 billion. In 2016, the
ratio was 84.11%, equivalent to 584.8 billion VND. By 2017, the rate was 79.01%,
equivalent to 713.9 billion VND. The amount of deposits in VND and in foreign
currencies tends to increase rapidly over the years. In the period 2015 - 2017, together
with the mobilization of capital, the branch and the implementation of structural changes
to suit the conditions of the economy. Along with the continuous fluctuations in interest
rates, many of the branches have strictly followed the direction of capital mobilization of
the head office in preparation for coping with unpredictable changes in VND and foreign
17
currencies. As in 2015,2016, the branch has strongly raised capital in VND. (Cuong,
2018)
2.6.3 Some problems of credit department
Bad debt is inevitable in the operation of the banking system. The existence of bad debt is
just as dangerous as it jumps up to the highs, the current financial situation of the
economy's subjects can push bad debts to dangerous levels in the future. With Vietnam,
the bad debt situation is not alarming, but it needs to deal drastically so that no serious
consequences.
Currently, bad debt ratio is up to 8.6% and is likely to increase to 10%. Particularly, the
rate of bad debt growth is very fast from 2015 to now and may not stop: in 2015 increase
74%, 2016 increase about 27%, 2017 increase 41%. This shows that bad debt continues to
be a dilemma for 2018 and will last until 2020. "Bad debt" is no longer the term of the
banking sector, but now farmers " muddy hands "know and care about this issue.
There are many reasons for bad debt. Firstly, the competition to attract customers forced
the banks to loosen the credit conditions: loan ratio / SCT, mortgage, commodity pledge
did not strictly supervise the loan; loan ratio / capital needs. (Vietnam Banks Sector,
2017)
Secondly, except for a small number of customers, there are bad debts arising from
objective causes such as business losses, bad debts, difficulties due to changes in
mechanisms and changes in the State's growth policy. Most of the bad debt comes from
superficial crediting of creditors. By not determining the true size of the customer's
business, the competitiveness of the customer in the industry in which the customer is
doing business, it is impossible to determine the customer's income from where and where
to be able to. Provide a reasonable level of loan and supervision. Bankers are sometimes
superficial in the capital use test, leading to no timely detection of customer difficulties
right from the start. Many customers, when checked on the use of capital after the loan,
said that part of the loan is actually in business, others are used for home repairs,
purchases of goods, even personal consumption. ... When the capital investment business
losses, no other source to repay the bank, so bad debt. On the other hand, customer
18
behavior is an important factor associated with the willingness to repay customer loans
that are often forgotten in the initial appraisal process.
3. An assessment of the internship
The student knows about bank lending activities. The student is encouraged to actively
engage in these forms of lending in the credit bureau. Moreover, the student is trained to
approach customers like marketing by sending letters of recommendation to customers
directly or by phone for full and detailed advice on credit products. which customers are
interested in. In addition, the student is directed to the home customers who need to
borrow money in part because of busy, in part because of other factors, can not directly
deal with the bank. Bankers who are in direct contact with customers are more efficient,
better satisfied with the needs of customers, the number of loans will also increase while
the credit risk will also decrease. Since then, students have learned how to sell used
services, approach and care for customers. there are some specifice skills that the student
learnt as below
3.1 New skills acquired and skills improved
Communication skill
I learnt to communicate, express and convey my thoughts as well as information
percisely. I also learnt how to interact effectively with colleagues, and the managers, too.
Problem solving skill
In my internship, I did learn and accumulate experience on problem-solving skill.
For example, when I experienced an electrical loss, I had to make an idea to handle the
situation. Hence, I made a suggestion that we had better be gathered in the main hall and
played a game together. This boosted the teams’ atmosphere and helped understand more
about us.
3. 2 Management techniques observed.
Throughout the internship period, I learnt the time management techniques from
my director. There were 2 main techniques to keep management successful:
Making To-do-list
19
Making a list concluding all the tasks that needed finishing helped me to increase
productivity in work performances and keep myself motivated. Besides, this gave me a
hand in remembering all the daily tasks.
Prioritizing works
This type of technique helped me to notice which work should be done first and
ones should be done afterwards. It helped me to order tasks with different priorities.
3. 3 Technical skills employed
Teamwork
First of all, I can say that teamwork is a huge part of the university life. As you
may kown, I have to get along with a variety of people while I was performing the
internship. I needed to take others’ opinions into account and make sure that the student
considered them when making a decision. Effective teamwork and collaboration not only
helped me with efficiently completing missions but also broaden my horizons to ideas or
solutions that I had never known.
Presentation
Presentation skill is one of the most crucial skills that I obtained a thorough in-depth
instruction and practice while I was studying at unniversity. This skill turned out to be
very helpful during my internship at Nam A Bank – Dong Xoai Branch as I could be
confident to stand in front of many people to present my ideas successfully. I personally
think that it was a result from practicing presentation hundreds of time and accumulating
valuable techniques at my university
3.4. Responsibilities undertaken during the internship period
3.4.1. Marketing and Search potential customers
This is considered one of the important tasks to increase the sales. For customers who
have a need or do not know the services, the loan officer will advise on the loan or use.
Services such as savings deposits, payment deposits and other banking facilities.
3.4.2. Contact and advise customers
Based on the requirements and ability to meet the bank's services, credit officers will
guide and advise clients to complete necessary procedures required by the bank. Fast and
20
detailed preparation, the higher the level of customer satisfaction and increased trust,
professionalism in the work process.
3.4.3. Evaluating customers
For customers with a loan need, the credit officer will assess the customer based on
criteria such as prestige, business capacity, scale of operation, financial ability, business
situation The ability to pay principal and interest, loan security assets.
3.4.4. Assist the customer to carry out necessary procedures
When working with clients, credit officers conduct credit contracts, mortgage contracts
and relevant documents as required by the bank and monitor and document disbursements
in accordance with customer requirements and bank disbursement regulations.
3.4.5. Monitoring the use of loan
In cases where the loan of a credit officer is responsible for checking the use of loan
capital in accordance with the regulations of the bank and monitoring the repayment of
principal and interest of customers under the contract between the bank and the borrower
capital.
3.5. Impact of internship on future career
At the university in general, student internship usually takes place at the end of year 3 or
year 4. This is where students choose and find a place to practice, get familiar with the
real work environment. After a long period of study in the lecture hall. If you take
advantage of the internship period, there will be opportunities for further development.
Through the activities of communication, behavior, presentation or group work, while
practicing the workplace, students will gradually cultivate and train themselves, improve
their soft skills. There is no denying the results of learning, soft skills will be equally
important factors that help students have the opportunity to work, develop later.
From the first year to the end of the third year of university, the majority of the time spent
studying in the lecture hall is the time students receive, study the specialized field.
Internship is a discipline (with certain credits) in the curriculum that students must
complete as a subject.
Practice time is the opportunity for students to directly apply the knowledge in the school
to the working environment. An office environment will be very different when sitting in
21
the lecture hall to acquire knowledge. While in the position of trainee, the student will
have to complete the assigned work in accordance with the competency and completion
requirements as an employee.
Practice time at the office is also when students are introduced to the new environment,
new people and new jobs. Relationships are expanded, when self-efficacy is expressed
through good work and dedication will be rewarded.
Few students are retained at the company, becoming full-time employees after the end of
the internship. And when there is time for internships, students, and now the official staff,
will develop more favorable, more promotion opportunities. It can be said that the short-
term practical training of the university is only a few months, but it is important for both
students to improve their skills and abilities but also to open up their employment
opportunities after graduation.
4. Conclusion
The purpose of the internship is to help students to enter the real world. In addition,
internships help students improve their roles and responsibilities in the industry they are
pursuing, as well as gain access to and familiarize themselves with the jobs they are
currently involved in. Since then, students have improved their professional skills and soft
skills. It gives students real-world experience
This placement gives students access to the careers they have chosen when they enter
university. Practical activities once again help students understand how they will work
after graduation and make timely adjustments, along with a more appropriate training
strategy. The application of knowledge learned in the school to the reality of work helps
students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and need to equip more knowledge and
skills to meet the needs of work. In fact, the curriculum provides a theoretical and useful
theoretical framework for the discipline and necessarily needs to be applied in real life to
specific audiences and occupational environments. As a result, the internships are
becoming increasingly important to the students. These early experiences help students
become more confident after graduation and find a job, which will help them not be so
illogical as to make them disappointed in the reality when they actually enter the labor
market. During the internship, students can establish relationships in their careers, which
22
is very useful for students when they graduate. With good practice, students also have the
opportunity to earn a job right during the internship.

VP Bank’s performance 2015-2017. Profit is the ultimate indicator of whether a bank is performing well in the business. Except for nonprofit banks, all other banks are turning to profit-oriented, profit-driven and all-for-profit. By profit determines survival, asserting competitiveness, and bankability in an economy that is inherently uncertain and harsh. In addition, if the bank is profitable, the bank will expand credit growth, create jobs, increase incomes, and accelerate economic growth. In order to determine the profit before tax of a bank, it is necessary to determine income and expenses. Because the difference between income and cost is profit. The following table shows the business results of the branch in recent years. Unit: Billion VND Targets 2015 2016 Difference 2016/2015 2017 Difference 2017/2016 Amount % Số tiền % Income 405.27 721.89 316.62 78.13% 1,040.08 318.19 44.08% Income from lending activities 297.69 463.39 165.70 55.66% 693.38 229.99 49.63% Income from service activities 99.23 239.63 140.40 141.49% 321.37 81.74 34.11% Other revenues 8.35 18.87 10.52 125.99% 25.33 6.46 34.23%

Although banks are now competing fiercely, new banks often adopt attractive forms of mobilization and lending to entice customers. Therefore, in order to retain old customers and compete with other banks, the bank spent a considerable amount of money through raising interest rates and raising capital. In addition, the expansion and development of the network, with the expansion of the transaction office, the scale of the old transaction office has also taken a considerable cost but in return, the income of the Ngan Rising. (Cuong, 2018) 2.6.3 Some problems of credit department Bad debt is inevitable in the operation of the banking system. The existence of bad debt is just as dangerous as it jumps up to the highs, the current financial situation of the economy's subjects can push bad debts to dangerous levels in the future. With Vietnam, the bad debt situation is not alarming, but it needs to deal drastically so that no serious consequences. Currently, bad debt ratio is up to 8.6% and is likely to increase to 10%. Particularly, the rate of bad debt growth is very fast from 2015 to now and may not stop: in 2015 increase 74%, 2016 increase about 27%, 2017 increase 41%. This shows that bad debt continues to be a dilemma for 2018 and will last until 2020. "Bad debt" is no longer the term of the banking sector, but now farmers " muddy hands "know and care about this issue. There are many reasons for bad debt. Firstly, the competition to attract customers forced the banks to loosen the credit conditions: loan ratio / SCT, mortgage, commodity pledge did not strictly supervise the loan; loan ratio / capital needs. (Vietnam Banks Sector, 2017) Secondly, except for a small number of customers, there are bad debts arising from objective causes such as business losses, bad debts, difficulties due to changes in mechanisms and changes in the State's growth policy. Most of the bad debt comes from superficial crediting of creditors. By not determining the true size of the customer's business, the competitiveness of the customer in the industry in which the customer is doing business, it is impossible to determine the customer's income from where and where to be able to. Provide a reasonable level of loan and supervision. Bankers are sometimes superficial in the capital use test, leading to no timely detection of customer difficulties right from the start. Many customers, when checked on the use of capital after the loan, said that part of the loan is actually in business, others are used for home repairs, purchases of goods, even personal consumption. ... When the capital investment business losses, no other source to repay the bank, so bad debt. On the other hand, customer

An assessment of the internship The student knows about bank lending activities. The student is encouraged to actively engage in these forms of lending in the credit bureau. Moreover, the student is trained to approach customers like marketing by sending letters of recommendation to customers directly or by phone for full and detailed advice on credit products. which customers are interested in. In addition, the student is directed to the home customers who need to borrow money in part because of busy, in part because of other factors, can not directly deal with the bank. Bankers who are in direct contact with customers are more efficient, better satisfied with the needs of customers, the number of loans will also increase while the credit risk will also decrease. Since then, students have learned how to sell used services, approach and care for customers. there are some specifice skills that the student learnt as below 3.1 New skills acquired and skills improved Communication skill I learnt to communicate, express and convey my thoughts as well as information percisely. I also learnt how to interact effectively with colleagues, and the managers, too. Problem solving skill In my internship, I did learn and accumulate experience on problem-solving skill. For example, when I experienced an electrical loss, I had to make an idea to handle the situation. Hence, I made a suggestion that we had better be gathered in the main hall and played a game together. This boosted the teams’ atmosphere and helped understand more about us. 3. 2 Management techniques observed. Throughout the internship period, I learnt the time management techniques from my director. There were 2 main techniques to keep management successful: Making To-do-list
  • 19. 19 Making a list concluding all the tasks that needed finishing helped me to increase productivity in work performances and keep myself motivated. Besides, this gave me a hand in remembering all the daily tasks. Prioritizing works This type of technique helped me to notice which work should be done first and ones should be done afterwards. It helped me to order tasks with different priorities. 3. 3 Technical skills employed Teamwork First of all, I can say that teamwork is a huge part of the university life. As you may kown, I have to get along with a variety of people while I was performing the internship. I needed to take others’ opinions into account and make sure that the student considered them when making a decision. Effective teamwork and collaboration not only helped me with efficiently completing missions but also broaden my horizons to ideas or solutions that I had never known. Presentation Presentation skill is one of the most crucial skills that I obtained a thorough in-depth instruction and practice while I was studying at unniversity. This skill turned out to be very helpful during my internship at Nam A Bank – Dong Xoai Branch as I could be confident to stand in front of many people to present my ideas successfully. I personally think that it was a result from practicing presentation hundreds of time and accumulating valuable techniques at my university 3.4. Responsibilities undertaken during the internship period 3.4.1. Marketing and Search potential customers This is considered one of the important tasks to increase the sales. For customers who have a need or do not know the services, the loan officer will advise on the loan or use. Services such as savings deposits, payment deposits and other banking facilities. 3.4.2. Evaluating customers For customers with a loan need, the credit officer will assess the customer based on criteria such as prestige, business capacity, scale of operation, financial ability, business situation The ability to pay principal and interest, loan security assets. 3.4.4. Assist the customer to carry out necessary procedures When working with clients, credit officers conduct credit contracts, mortgage contracts and relevant documents as required by the bank and monitor and document disbursements in accordance with customer requirements and bank disbursement regulations. 3.4.5. Monitoring the use of loan In cases where the loan of a credit officer is responsible for checking the use of loan capital in accordance with the regulations of the bank and monitoring the repayment of principal and interest of customers under the contract between the bank and the borrower capital. 3.5. Impact of internship on future career At the university in general, student internship usually takes place at the end of year 3 or year 4. This is where students choose and find a place to practice, get familiar with the real work environment. After a long period of study in the lecture hall. If you take advantage of the internship period, there will be opportunities for further development. Through the activities of communication, behavior, presentation or group work, while practicing the workplace, students will gradually cultivate and train themselves, improve their soft skills. There is no denying the results of learning, soft skills will be equally important factors that help students have the opportunity to work, develop later. From the first year to the end of the third year of university, the majority of the time spent studying in the lecture hall is the time students receive, study the specialized field. Internship is a discipline (with certain credits) in the curriculum that students must complete as a subject. Practice time is the opportunity for students to directly apply the knowledge in the school to the working environment. An office environment will be very different when sitting in
  • 21. 21 the lecture hall to acquire knowledge. While in the position of trainee, the student will have to complete the assigned work in accordance with the competency and completion requirements as an employee. Practice time at the office is also when students are introduced to the new environment, new people and new jobs. Relationships are expanded, when self-efficacy is expressed through good work and dedication will be rewarded. Few students are retained at the company, becoming full-time employees after the end of the internship. And when there is time for internships, students, and now the official staff, will develop more favorable, more promotion opportunities. It can be said that the short- term practical training of the university is only a few months, but it is important for both students to improve their skills and abilities but also to open up their employment opportunities after graduation. 4. Conclusion The purpose of the internship is to help students to enter the real world. In addition, internships help students improve their roles and responsibilities in the industry they are pursuing, as well as gain access to and familiarize themselves with the jobs they are currently involved in. Since then, students have improved their professional skills and soft skills. It gives students real-world experience This placement gives students access to the careers they have chosen when they enter university. Practical activities once again help students understand how they will work after graduation and make timely adjustments, along with a more appropriate training strategy. The application of knowledge learned in the school to the reality of work helps students recognize their strengths and weaknesses and need to equip more knowledge and skills to meet the needs of work. In fact, the curriculum provides a theoretical and useful theoretical framework for the discipline and necessarily needs to be applied in real life to specific audiences and occupational environments. As a result, the internships are becoming increasingly important to the students. These early experiences help students become more confident after graduation and find a job, which will help them not be so illogical as to make them disappointed in the reality when they actually enter the labor market. During the internship, students can establish relationships in their careers, which
