The Mecanum wheel is a design for a wheel which can move a vehicle in
any direction.
It can be used in tight spaces for easy travelling
It is sometimes called the Ilon wheel

Idea brought by, Bengt Erland Ilon, who came up
with the idea when he was an engineer with the
Swedish company Mecanum.
5HOW DO MECANUM WHEELS WOKS ?
Mecanum wheels, also known as omini wheels or ilon
wheels.
Consist of a hub with rollers oriented 45° to the axis of
rotation.
They enable conventional forward & backward movement
as well as side to side and even rotation
To accomplish this, each wheels turn independently

The Wheel plate design was manufactured by
aluminium alloy.
Aluminium alloys were selected to obtain good
weight to strength ratio.
Casted using sand casting method

A DC motor is any of a class of electrical machines that
converts direct current electrical power into mechanical
power.
Motors are used to drive the Mecanum wheels.
There are many different type DC motors that could
be used for dive purpose of the platform.

The selected motor require a 36V 350Wpower supply that needs to have
sufficient capacity to power the four drive motor for an appropriate
amount of time

It is called dependent because one side depends on the other:
if one wheel was to lower, the other opposite wheel would rise.

The advantage with independent suspension is that
each wheel is isolated from the other
The advantage of this system is that the wheel will
stay perpendicular with the floor no matter what
position the swing arm is in.
» it can move in all 8 directions i.e., in 360 degrees
» It is perfect for tight spaces, they enable conventional forward & backward
movement as well as side to side even rotation
» High load capacity
» Simple to control
» Less speed and pushing force when moving diagonally

  • 3. INTRODUCTION 3 The Mecanum wheel is a design for a wheel which can move a vehicle in any direction. It can be used in tight spaces for easy travelling It is sometimes called the Ilon wheel
  • 4. 4 Idea brought by, Bengt Erland Ilon, who came up with the idea when he was an engineer with the Swedish company Mecanum.
  • 5. 5HOW DO MECANUM WHEELS WOKS ? Mecanum wheels, also known as omini wheels or ilon wheels. Consist of a hub with rollers oriented 45° to the axis of rotation.
