3. The Story…
Vs 1
Satan provoked David to take a Census
What is a Census and why was it considered as a sin ?
• Official count of the population
Read Exodus 30:12
• Principle of this verse - God’s ownership of His people.
• A man only can count what belonged to him
• Israel belonged to God, not David
4. Verses 2 - 7
• David commands Joab to number the
Israelites
• Joab objects to the census but the King’s
word overruled
• David had wise men with him but ignored
their advice.
• Joab reports the numbers
( this indicates the counting itself was a
sin)
• God was displeased
Beersheba

his foolishness

plague
6. Verses 13 - 19
• David chose 3 days of plague; he didn’t
want his people to suffer for long because
of his sin
• The plague killed 70,000 men; and God
also sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem.
• The calamity grieved the Lord & He
ordered the angel to stop.
• David saw the angel with a sword, ready to
strike Jerusalem.
• He immediately humbled himself and
repented.
• God ordered him to build an altar at
Araunah the Jebusite’s threshold.
