At Dezyne E’cole College This Assignment portfolio is Created By Me, I have
studied about various subjects in my 1st year such as Anthropometrics,
Ergonomics , Drafting , Interior Materials and Methods , Building Construction
and History of Art and design. By learning these subjects I gained knowledge like
how interior spaces are designed according to a person’s personality and how
design development is carried out considering the concepts of designing. In my
first year of tenure I made assignments of different subjects.
I Request You To Kindly Go Through My Assignment Papers. As A Learner In This
Field I Have Tried My Level Best To Bring Out The Best Of My Knowledge Gained
At Dezyne E’cole College.

Basic Assignments
Choose a rug that generously holds your table and
chairs even when they are pulled out from the table.
It should have at least 24” of extra room on all sides.
Rug size to consider
9’x12’ , 8’x10’
Avoid a too-small rug that barely
contains the table and chairs.
Rug size to consider
5’x8’ , 4’x6’
The same rules apply with a round table. The rug
whether circular or rectangular should extend well
passed the dining chairs.
Rug size to consider
7’ to 9’ in diameter.
If a rug is too small you risk guests
tripping on it when pulling out their
chairs.
Rug size to consider
anything less than 2xthe diameter
. of your table.

Rug Size & Placement
Basic Assignments
For A Spacious Room, Choose A Rug
Large Enough To Hold The Beg ,
Provide Extra Width For Walking On
Either Side And At The End Of The
Bed. It Should Go Under All
Furniture.
Rug Size To Consider 9’×12’ for king
8’×10’ for queen.
Do This Not ThisOr This
Try This
A slightly smaller room that
comes just below the night
stand is also a “do”.
Rug Size To Consider:
8’×10’
Don’t use a smaller rug
centered around the loot of
the bed. That looks like a
postage stamp and very
out of scale. You want
softness under your feet
when you get out of bed.
Rug size to consider 5’× 8’
Try This
Another small solution is using too
small rugs on either side of bed. This
work particularly well if you have a
dresser or desk on one side of your
bed instead of a night stand.
Rug Size To Consider:
4’×6’ 3’×5’
For a bedroom with a bed in a corner;
or in a room with two twin beds.
Choose a runner for a long the side of
the bed – it works great.
Rug Size To Consider:
2’6”×7’.

GUIDE TO FULLNESS
For general fullness , multiply
the width measurement by 1.5-
2 inches .
Sheers – Triple the width on
sheer panels for a luxe
appearance and light control .
Lace – Add 12-24 inches to the
window width so the lace
pattern will show .
Pinch-pleated draperies – Only
add 12 inches to the width .

ABOVE THE KITCHEN ISLAND IN THE STAIRWELL
Lighting over a kitchen island is
imperative for safety (in food
preparation) as well as aesthetics. A
contemporary trends is to install a trio of
pendants over the island.
Fixtures should be placed 72 inches
above the floor or 28-34 inches above
the countertop.
Lighting fixtures should be high enough
so that occupants of the area won’t have
to stare directly into the lights.
Clearance between the bottom
of the fixture and height of the
tallest occupant should be 18-

Most rooms call for a 7 feet clearance
between the light fixture and the floor.
However if placed above a coffee

IN THE BATHROOM
A popular choice for bathroom lighting
is sconces traditionally placed on both
sides of the mirror. A more recent
twist is to use pendants in much the
same way sconces. Since these fixture
will be used as task lighting for daily
grooming purposes rather then
ambient lighting, they should be
placed at eye level-at least 60’’ off the
floor and spaced at least 28’’ apart.
Generally, sconces and pendants are
not the only source of light.
IN THE BATHROOM
The optimal height for a foyer
chandelier is a minimum of 80-84’’
from the floor to the bottom of the
chandelier. If the foyer is two stones
high. The fixture should hang no lower
than the point of the second floor. If
there is a window above the two story
foyer. You should center the
chandelier in the window so you can
see it from the outside.
