CLIMATE :A Brief introduction
 Climate is the average weather in a
place over many years.
 While the weather can change in just a
few hours, climate takes hundreds,
thousands, even millions of years to
change.
 The climate of a location is affected by its
latitude, terrain, and altitude, as well as
nearby water bodies and their currents.

The Elements Of Climate

Classification Of Climate
There are five major types of climate :-
1. Tropical Humid Climate
-- No dry season
-- Winter dry season
2. Dry Climate
--Low altitude semi arid
--Mid Latitude arid

4. Cold Snow Forest Climates
--Dry and Severe
Winter
--No Dry seasons

5. Cold Climates
--No true summer
--Perennial Ice

What is Climate Change??
 Climate Change is a change in the usual
weather found in a place. This could be a
change in how much rain a place usually gets
in a year. Or it could be a change in a place’s
usual temperature for a month or a season.
 Climate Change is also a change in Earth’s
climate.This could be a change in Earth’s
usual temperature. Or it could be a change
in where rain or snow fall on Earth

Short Talk With Grand Father 
 Hey dada ji .....What you think about
climate change .??
 Grandfather replied with smile - It's
nothing but result of human
activity.
 This statement shocked me ....
but I realised what my
grandfather want to say

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Natural Causes Of Climate Change
 Many things can cause climate to change
all on its own.
Earth’s distance from the Sun can
change. The Sun can send out more or
less energy.
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Oceans can change climate too , The
ocean influences weather and climate by
storing solar radiation, distributing heat
and moisture around the globe, and driving
weather systems
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Volcanoes can impact climate change.
But their impact on climate change is
very small
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
 Orbital Mechanism had a major
impact on climate change . It is
responsible for the ice age.
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Humans Role In Climate Change
 Any human activities that releases Green
House gases into the atmosphere is
contributing in climate change.
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Humanity increased use of fossil fuel
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Increasing Intensive Agriculture
 To meet the daily food needs of
increasing population , we humans had to
increase food production.
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Deforestation
 Tropical forest trees, like all green plants,
take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen
during photosynthesis.
 When trees are cut down and burned or
allowed to rot, their stored carbon is
released into the air as carbon dioxide.
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Vikas
Roll no:- 70
Role of Industries in Climate
Change
 Industrial pollutants are collecting in the
atmosphere like a thickening blanket,
trapping the sun’s heat and causing the
planet to warm up.
 Industries caused two third of man made
global warming emissions oil coal and gas
companies are contributing to most
carbon emissions causing climate change.

Effect Of Climate Change
 Climate change affects the world in
following ways:-
1 -Temperature
2 - Sea Level
3 - Draught
4 - Storm
5 - Flooding
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Sea Level
1) Two main factors contribute to the
rise:-
 The first is thermal
expansion as ocean
water warms, it
expands.
 The second is from
the melting of land-based ice in glaciers
and ice sheets due to global warming.
Sahil
Roll no:-79
How sea level has increased in
recent years
Sahil
Roll no:-79
How It Affects Jakarta
 2.5 m North Jakarta submerged in last 10
years
 It is estimated that upto 2050 95% of
North Jakarta will be submerged
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Draught
 Draught are likely to be more frequent
and more intense. Some area there will be
less water available for drinking and to
water crops because there will be less
rain .
Sahil
Roll no:-79
 It is estimated that more than 200million
people will have risk of hunger in future
years
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Temperature
 Global Temperature has been risen by 1
degree C in recent years.
 It is expected that upto 2100 , temperature
will rise upto 4 degree C.
 Higher growth in
anthropogenic GHG
emissions would cause
more frequent and
severe temperature
extreme.
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Flooding
 More intense and unpredictable rainfall
could produce more flood .
 In costal area there could be more
flooding due to more frequent storm and
higher sea level .
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Storm
 Intensive storms known as Hurricane ,
Cyclone ,Typhoons, could happen much
more often and be more intense as a
result of climate change.
 Storm cause flood to costal areas.
Sahil
Roll no:-79
Sahil
Roll no:-79
It Affects Agriculture Too
 As temperature rises , so pesticides attack
will increase.
 Due to temperature increase , the ground
water level decreases which is used for.
irrigation and hence will affect agriculture.
 Agricultural production will increase in
European countries and will decrease in
tropical and sub-tropical region.

How Ecosystem will be affected in
future
 Wild fire will increase .
 Upto 30% of species will be at risk of
extinction due to rapid change in
ecosystem.
