– Features suspicious of Papillary Carcinoma Thyroid Bethesda Category V (12/05/2017)
• BIOPSY Nos: FR 13/17, 1523/17
• DATE OF RECEIVING SPECIMEN: 07/06/2017
• CLINICAL DIAGNOSIS: Thyroid Carcinoma
• NATURE OF SPECIMEN: Right hemithyroidectomy specimen

Gross Examination
• Received right hemithyroidectomy specimen
measuring 7 x 5 x 3cm.
• The cut section show grey white nodule
measuring 3 x 3cm, which is capsulated.

Microscopical Examination
• Section studied show hyperplastic
microfollicles and abortive follicles lined by
cuboidal cells with mild anisonucleosis
separated by lymphocytic stroma surrounded
by focal thin fibrous capsule.

• Features suggestive of follicular neoplasm of
thyroid.
• Advised histopatholological examination.

• The cut section showed a
grey white nodule

has a thin capsule.

• Section studied from thyroid gland shows a nodule
showing tumor composed of cells arranged in follicular,
microfollicular pattern and in sheets.
• Individual tumor cells has scanty eosinophilic
cytoplasm, few have clear cytoplasm with nuclear
crowding, occasional clearing, inclusions and grooves.
• Adjacent thyroid tissue shows follicles lined by
flattened to cuboidal epithelium with scalloping
colloid.
• Few interfollicular spaces show dilated blood vessels.

Follicular variant of Papillary Carcinoma-
Right lobe of thyroid gland.

• Container labelled Level II lymph node.
• Single grey white soft tissue mass measuring 2 x 1 x 0.5 cm.
On cut section, a single lymph node identified.
• Container labelled Level III lymph node.
• Single grey white soft tissue mass measuring 2 x 0.5 x 0.5 cm
On cut section, a single lymph node identified.

• Section studied shows thyroid tissue
composed of irregular colloid filled thyroid
follicles lined by cuboidal epithelium.
• Interfollicular areas show mild lymphocytic
infiltration.
• Section studied from Level II and III lymph
nodes show features of non-specific reactive
lymphadenitis.
• No metastasis seen in sections studied.

• Colloid Goitre – left lobe of thyroid
• No metastasis seen in sections studied.
