3. WHAT IS THE ZIKA

• Zika Virus was first identified in Rhesus
monkey in Uganda in 1947. The first human
case was detected in Nigeria in 1952 and
there have been further outbreak in Africa,
South East Asia and the pacific islands.

• Zika is a virus that can cause

during pregnancy. If a women
is pregnant and infected
with Zika virus, she can pass
it to her baby. Zika infection
during pregnancy causes a
birth defect called
microcephaly and other
brain problems. It also may
be linked to other serious
problems for a baby.

• Microcephaly is a neurological condition where an infant's
head circumference is significantly smaller than the average
size for infants of the same age. Microcephaly can lead to
developmental delays in movement and speech among other
complications
15. DIAGNOSIS
• Zika fever is mainly spread via the bite
of mosquitoes of the Aedes type.
• Diagnosis is by testing the blood, urine,
or saliva for the presence of Zika virus
RNA when the person is sick.
• It can also be sexually transmitted and
potentially spread by blood transfusions.
Infections in pregnant women can
spread to the baby.
16. TREATMENTS
There's no vaccine or specific antiviral drug treatment for Zika
yet.
Get plenty of rest.
Drink fluids to prevent dehydration.
Take medicines to reduce fever .
